After the shockingly success of 911r ( lookse how expensive they are now), porsche already realised how people deeply in love with manual transmissions and probably wont drop it in next decades
In Europe manual gearbox is still the most common. In Poland for instance you can't take a driving license exam driving a car with automatic transmission.
Funny thing is when you look at sports cars the trend is reversed, Europeans go for auto/paddle supercars far more often, while Americans go for the stick option more often. Far more corvettes are sold with sticks, and it wasn't because of Americans that the R8 lost its manual option.
I know. Porsche really pays attention to their customers. I'm glad they are still offering them. Same with GM offering the 7 speed manual in their corvettes still. We need them.
@@SkynetGeneral agreed. Sports cars MUST be manual. 90% of owners are not going to the track. I dont care about the difference of tenths of a second a nurburgring. Those numbers are just used for the group of douchebags that think they like cars and use those numbers as a benchmark for their dick measuring contest.
Hey Matt, just wanted to say that your One Take series has been super inspirational for my life. It influenced me to pick a career, and a direction for myself, that has led me to some amazing places that I never thought I could reach. For a while I had no direction or motivation to improve my life, but the minute I finished watching the video on the JDM Legacy with sequential turbos I knew I wanted to build race cars/custom street cars for a living. I know you mentioned at some point that the series will be ending this year, and I just wanted to say thank you so much for the work you do, and have done. I'll be a die hard fan until the end. -Thanks again, from one Matt to another
Probably the most daily driveable 911 ever built. The only thing with this specific car is the PCCB's are not great at all when cold. So if you are on the freeway for 30 minutes not using your brakes and then you have to do a panic stop, hold on tight! But if you are going to track it somewhat frequently they are definitely worth the added $$$. Awesome vid!
They won't get rid of it but they're usually only found in customer-ordered cars, not vehicles a dealership configures. I know of two dealerships in the northern Virginia area who don't bother ordering manuals at all for their yearly allotment from Porsche.
Surprised to hear Carlos Lago left Motor Trend AGAIN for the second time. I wonder why. It seemed like MT wasn't really giving him much to do after they gave Ignition to those clowns.
Sean Petersen what's he doing now? back at Edmunds? I actually like the MT guys, like Carlos also, Matt Farah, Steve hammes, Chris Harris ,grant tour etc.. it's a great time to be a automobile fanatic
Remember when Edmunds inside line was awesome? Wtf happened there...oh I know.. Edmunds justs comes into my dealership to sell us customer leads now lol..
I drove behind a guy in a brand new Cayman, who was learning to use a clutch for the first time in the canyons. The sound and smell made me want to stop him and help, but eventually I had enough room to pass and I left him to his mechanic.
Matt, two cars pulled over for you? Two? You live a charmed life my friend... Nice review! That is an awesome car. They got the sound right too. You just don't hear that in the older turbos. Fun ride! Franny

You do realise you can book the same thing at your local Porsche dealership too right? No need to be salty. Really great cinematic shots this video great work man the quality is going up and I seem to like you more so my standards go down, thank you for the fun driving experience
Thanks for the kind words, but I can't take credit (and you shouldn't raise expectations) for the cinematic B-roll shots: they were provided by Porsche for journalists to use. I didn't shoot those.
After read your comment, I did some research. I speced every possible option on turbo s, carbi s, and targa s, and read the porsche official user manual. I can confirm there are 3 blanc buttons in the lower left of center console serve no purpose at all. They are always blank no matter in which configuration in any model of 911. That is insane! Edit: Then I realised I forgot about gt series. Then I tried gt3. two of three battons are labeled. But no matter how do I spec it, the third button is still blank. Then I tried gt2 rs. Finnally, all three missing buttons are labeled. So you need to buy the highest end 300k version to fill the empty three buttons... But you still wont get a car without any blank buttons. In fact gt2 rs has more blank buttons than gt3. Because there are no "engine start stop" and "rear wing" buttons etc. Conclusion: Same as the initial conclusion. No 911 in any configuration have all buttons labeled.
Matt where I live (Ontario Canada) double yellow line areas are a warning/recommendation not to pass. The only time we can't pass in a double yellow line area it hats be posted as a no passing zone. I believe only 1 state allows you to pass in that area without a fine. Anyway, carry on.
I have a 2018 Targa 4 GTS PDK, my previous 911 base, Carerra S and Carerra 4S were all manual. But, driving the GTS PDK I don’t miss it, the PDK is fabulous. And the formula 1 manual shifters shift just a fast as automatic yet you are in control.
Long time, First time. This is one of the best quality video's I have seen from you. Great editing, and shots. The white background shot was a very nice touch. For some reason this video put it into perspective to me as to how fast you are actually moving along. I am a huge fan of the podcast, keep it up!
Genuine question... Is there any point in having a 911 turbo or or turbo s when these carreras are now turbocharged. With an ecu the power won't be an issue
Brilliant driving, you didn't wander everywhere and over correct everything like a lot of video reviewers do. And your shifting is incredible, is that manual or auto rev matching? I haven't watched the whole thing. Also anyone who's into clouds will agree that those look incredible, and notice the one lenticular cloud over one of the mountains? Awesome video
I think he likes it ;) I don't think $8k is expensive for the PCCB. Having said that, at a Porsche gathering on the weekend I was told that the carbon ceramic brake rotors wear fairly quickly and the wear is measured by removing the rotor and weighing it! As always, Matt does a great review.
Great to see Porsche taking care of Matt in a good way. Always great to see you doing a press launch video for them. Amazing to see the big leaps in power and torque these new engines make. Do it right and pre-order what specs you want. save yourself 20-40% on mark up for things you don't really need to enjoy the car..
I have question. I am in the pre owned market for a 2018 911. I want a racing yellow T manual and I found one certified almost new 6 k miles around 90k. I’ve put deposit on car but as my luck would have it I stumbled into a racing yellow gts with rear steer 8k miles about 10k more it doesn’t have short throw but same transmission. I have not driven the gts I have the t. I love the light weight purist version etc. still the gts is much more of a discount from new. The gts had an original sticker l8ke 145k the t was 120ish so the t is roughly 30k under new sticker with 6k miles. The gts is roughly 40k under its original sticker. I just wonder which car I will like better. Both are certified both have exact same warranty the t is the bottom I understand but they built less of them. Either one won’t be garage queen I’m going to drive a bunch not daily but close. The 10k difference in price is not that much at this level. Already committed to T when I found this gts. Geez. I’m excited to get either one...
Those are some good shots! That shot in the snow with the drone, lol. That's a sweet Porsche but I'm not sure I would want the revmatching. I'm still waiting on that SAAB 9-5 AERO video. I hope his Aero is well sorted, his lack of fornt lip is not a good sign. The subframe bushings, most suspension components, motor and trans mounts all probably need to be renewed at this point if not already replaced. They need a lot of little things but are great when well sorted especially with a manual trans, although the 5 speed auto with the paddle shifters is adequate.

The road to one million... Great one-take, as always. Hypothetically, if you had say an S63 W222 as a daily driver and could only have one 911, would you take a 991.2 GTS or 991.2 GT3? Is the latter too brash to live with outside the track, especially considering hitting 9k in third gear makes you a felon?
Ceramic Brakes: Having driven 2 PASM Carrera S back to back on bumpier roads, one ceramic braked and the other not, I can tell you that one of the less obvious benefits of the ceramic option is the improvement in ride quality and confidence. You won't notice this on smoother roads, however, drivers in the north east tend to get their backroads with lots of bumps and sharp crests. Here the substantial difference in unsprung weight makes a subtle difference when you're going for it. Worth it?
Did this car have the partial leather/alcantara or the full leather/alcantara package? What's your take on the leather in Porsches? I personally felt both at the last car show and liked the full leather much more. I haven't felt the natural leather option though.
Guy Incognito I drove one car with full leather and one car without. It's nice, but if you wanted to save cash the non-full leather doesn't feel cheap or like it's missing anything.
@TheSmokingTire - since you have driven the base 911, S, and GTS, can you comment on the turbo lag differences? We know that Porsche just increases the size of the turbo impellers to increase power among them, which must mean MORE LAG. Can you comment? Thanks
97aventador how come? Because silver hides the curves(I know this is what some buyers want. They WANT the curves to be hidden)? There's so many equally attractive if not more attractive porsche colours!
I'd take my GTS with a manual, rear drive, adaptive sport seats in 'sport tex' material, bose stereo, and maybe the glass sunroof. That would bring the total to about $133k, which isn't bad for the perfect sports car that'll last a lifetime. The sport crono package, PASM, sport exhaust, and torque vectoring are all standard on GTS trims.
Hahaha, sounding like an even more manic version of J Clarkson when he tested the formidable E60 M5 which featured the correspondingly formidable nav system which almost drove him to despair. Nice video here Matt.
Have heard that on track that this is a 991.1 GT3 equivalent (stock) even though it is slightly less HP and higher weight. And that the torque is really what closed the gap. Of course that would be both cars on the same tires. Still prefer NA though, so I love the GT3.

Those 991.2 manuals will be very sought after and worth a lot in the future when all you can find are PDKs.
I doubt Porsche gets rid of manual anytime soon. It's BMW that you should be more worried about.
Agreed.. ffs I heard BMW is considering FWD?? They're nuts

Love this car, great video! I am, however, laughing my ass off over your reaction to the navigation. Good job!
@TheSmokingTire - since you have driven the base 911, S, and GTS, can you comment on the turbo lag differences? We know that Porsche just increases the size of the turbo impellers to increase power among them, which must mean MORE LAG. Can you comment?
Thanks
The PDK is better on the GTS. The manual is weird with the 7 speed and when you do shift, it can be violent!!
Can't beat a 991.2 with black wheels and silver paint
97aventador a 930 slant Nose? Is prettier.
Well yeah aha, there are obviously better looking cars, but you know what I mean lol
97aventador how come? Because silver hides the curves(I know this is what some buyers want. They WANT the curves to be hidden)? There's so many equally attractive if not more attractive porsche colours!
Slant nose lmao no way
Great drive by pics on this one Matt.
Thanks for the feedback on the PDCC - I was wondering if that really makes a difference / actually improves the driving experience.
much better than the last couple of OTs! thanks matt!
Just perfect.. The colour with the black rims and the alcantara interior.. i would take this with rear wheel drive over the turbo s anyday
Production quality is brilliant Matt
That road reminds me of riding Mount Lemon just outside of Tucson, AZ which I drove as you many times in my C4S.
You had some beautiful shots in this video Matt, good job.
Man, this 911's just get better and better! Nice job from Porsche.
@7:20 is that the crest of Monitor Pass (CA89), opposite Topaz Lake?
i love it how he says "shut up" to navigation
