I never gave much thought to a spider’s personality until I was prepping my bedroom walls for painting. A bold jumper followed me around for two days observing and touching everything I was working on. I ended up calling her Miss Supervisor. I moved her to my office where she continued supervising duties for the next 8 months. The morning I found her passed away on the windowsill, her favorite hunting spot, I was heartbroken. Because of Miss Supervisor, I look at the world’s smallest creatures with awakened curiosity, amazement, and respect.
Anna N thanks thats an adorable story, i love the name you gave her 🤗🙏

I really like when people take the time to understand the world around them.
It makes us better humans. Like you!
Aww
I used to have a lil jumper that would hang out on my patio with me. It was cute the way it would run down the railing, and jump on the table. It would come sit right next to me, and if I was reading, it liked to climb up on the top of my books.
Jumping spiders are just special you can see them thinking and processing in real time. No other spider really like them
That’s exactly why jumping spiders are my favorite
They are insanely intelligent. BBC documentaries call them the smartest spider.
@@KBird-flylow I saw the same and believe it, the way they plan when they hunt is super cool

Hummingbirds are also an amazing tiny creature easily tamed.
The spider looked genuinely curious and she was so beautiful. Her colors were stunning.

At least you cried over a living spider. I would ball over Charlette the spider's death from Charlette's Web.
Literally babe here to say the same. How the hell am I crying over a spider?!!
I had a jumping spider make its home inside my car. Every time I'd go for a drive, the little guy would hop on the the steering wheel and just look at me. You can tell they're trying to figure us out. Beautiful little creatures. Completely changed my perspective on spiders.

I’m not a big fan of spiders, although, jumping spiders are an exception. They’re so cute, harmless, intelligent, and friendly.
Commented almost the same thing.
yeah, jumping spiders are an exception for me strangely enough since they're not big or dangerous looking and most videos gave me the impression that they are friendlier than the average spiders.

Jumping spiders are considered the most intelligent spider and even have the potential to dream which is only really prevalent in vertebrates (more studying is being done in this however). They also have big personalities/ are personable and love to interact with their surroundings. Gotta love the octokitties :D
I can see they are intelligent, but how would they know these spiders dream. I learnt that house spiders have consciousness, I would never kill them, but when I poked them they would play dead. Smart!

This is so adorable.
We had a common house spider who lived in our bathroom for a year. I told my family they could not flush Bob down the shower or toilet. We got to see him live a full life in our house. Who knew there were so many other bugs around the house? Bob ate well, and we were grateful.
My love of spiders began while sitting on the porch with my Dad. We spent an evening watching a spider house clean her web. She'd run up and down the threads rolled dust into a ball then pitching it out. They are fascinating!
I'm so glad you had an open minded, open hearted Dad.
Problem with letting spiders live in your home is that they mate.

So cute we need to spread the word about spiders they are just afraid of us as we are of them😻🕸🕷
Definitely. One night I was sitting with the window open and noticed A big spider moving along the floor, I was too scared to just take it in my hand and take it outside.

Yeah, as long as you spread that message with a healthy dose of respect. Some spiders are very aggressive, poisonous, and even deadly. Tarantulas are great spiders, but can become very aggressive if you scare them, so you have to learn how to handle and read them.

They're just so cute and fuzzy. And unlike most insects and arachnids who just blankly stare past you, they look directly at you from the front despite having full 360 degree vision. And they wave (most likely cleaning themselves) and clearly show thinking in real time and touch things to understand them.
We had jumping spiders at our house in SoCal but I didn't know that's what they were at the time. I didn't kill any of them but I did think they were cute. I hope this video gets people to rethink smooshing them out of fear

why are jumping spiders so amazing? they seem to analyze their surroundings and who could ever hate a face like that? 🥰
They do analyze their surroundings. They can plan routes in 3D. And they're smart enough to know that, if there is prey ontop of a leaf above them, they can climb above that leaf and attack from above. Most spiders would just go for the prey's shadow through the leaf and not understand why they just got a facefull of plant instead of bug.

This was pretty wholesome, number one thing to remember is most animals that small are a million times more scared of you than you could ever be of them, as a result you really need to be patient and let them come to you when they are ready and it is critically important that you do not panic because that is the worst possible thing you can do.
I here this platitude all the time and I dont buy it for a moment, I was in work once and there was a huge spider, I couldn't relax knowing it was near me so I picked up and empty bin to trap it so I could get on with my work (mean i know) anyway as soon as I got in distance this spider charges at me and chase me across the room while everyone is laughing, I turn around and its standing still, so I put the bin down and decide Im not going to mess with it, then it chases me again, so I decide to have an early break and get out of there, that spider from hell was not scared of me one bit lol
@@simogenic It actually was scared of you and that is why it acted so aggressive. If it had a thought process, it would probably be something like "That thing is huge, I'm tiny, and there is an immense chance it is going to kill me. I've always thought Jumping Spiders were cute! They have such big eyes, and fuzzy little faces.

They're so adorable, plus there are so many different types of them that I always see a couple every year that I've never seen before. They're mesmerizing and actually very curious and friendly creatures. As with most spiders, every now and then I'll pick one up and it will take a liking to me and then it's all I can do to get it to crawl off of me! I just love them.
It amazes me that creatures this small can learn to see us as friends instead of some big scary giant. And I don't just mean spiders - I mean every tiny critter that people manage to befriend. They really put a lot of trust in us.
Bless this woman! Love her compassionate recognition of this little individual's right to life and her capacity for happiness. True animal lovers love ALL animals, including those animals who are forced into short brutal lives, suffering, until their violent deaths at the slaughterhouse. Our compassion must evolve to include these most vulnerable individuals and we must ask ourselves whether our daily choices are bringing MORE MERCY, or MORE MISERY to animals. Don't choose to support their unnecessary suffering and death! Choose justice and compassion for them! Be vegan - for them! 🌱💞

I used to be extremely afraid of spiders, like if I saw one, I'd dart of the room in an instant. However, a few years ago I began watching videos on the little guys, learning about the different types and just becoming more familiar with them. Over time my phobia disappeared and now I'm perfectly fine around them. In fact, in the upper right corner of my bedroom there's a little spider that lives in a small hole that's been there since before I moved in. It usually just chills up there, minding its own business, and even eating these annoying little flies that'll sneak into my room during the summer. I know it's silly, but I began calling it Spot, because it barely ever moves from that spot.

@@pepsil4life475 If you want my advice on how I got over mine, I just watched informative videos on them. It was through these that I learned a vast majority of spiders aren't actually deadly. Sure, they may bite, but unless it's something like a Black Widow. Brown Recluse, or Red Back, you'll more than likely love through it. Like here, jumping spiders do have a toxin they release when biting into prey, but to a human, the most it'll do is maybe give you a little itch. It's the same way I overcame my phobia of snakes, I watched plenty of videos on which to watch out for, which are friendly and which are deadly, and that's really about it.
@@AshXXMayftw I think my fear comes from a feeling of "disgust" either about its creepy crawly *many* legs (I have a phobia of even a rubber ball toy with many tentacles) or its general appearance, not so much about the associated dangers or harm they can inflict on me. I never saw a Jumping spider in my live
So nice and wholesome. I swear these little spiders know when you have good intentions. I live with other people who are afraid of spiders so when they find one I ask them to call me instead of killing it. I talk to the spider in a soft voice and offer my hand and they invariably climb up onto it and let me move them either outside or to an area of the house where they'll be safe (like the basement or garage). They never run or freak out and I seriously believe they can tell that you're interested in helping them.
Wow, never thought that I'd get sad over a spider. How precious, good on you. Thank you for sharing.💕 RIP Gretel
She(the spider) looking up at her for validation is just so adorable!
I saw that moment as well and wondered the same thing. I guess we may never understand if there’s anything cognitive or emotional happening between us and creatures we normally assume have only very basic nerve impulses for survival only, or is it just coincidence? Is there more happening here besides the big three survival decisions? 1, Do I kill it? 2, Do I mate with it? 3, Do I run from it? There certainly seems to be, which is fascinating and life changing to those willing to put forth the thought and effort of our own big brains. I wish this type of thing, engaging with things that we are afraid of or that make us uncomfortable to try to learn from it, were put into practice and taught to our young by the majority. We’d probably live in a better environment. That or half our population would be devoured trying to hug a crocodile or pet a rattlesnake. 😉
Spiders as a whole are fascinating creatures and echologically very important. I wouldn't call most of them cute but jumping spiders really are!
Jumping spiders are just soooooooooo awesome! My young daughters love them even more than I do!
that is the sweetest thing ever...both of them try to conquer their fears and show their true selfs to each other
the little spider might have died but what it showed to people who are afraid of spiders and how it helped them conquer their fear, lives on forever
Really beautiful. I had a tarantula that loved sitting on my grand piano when I played. Seriously, she loved the sound or the vibration, I still don't know which. When I put my hand in her terrarium she always came and climbed up my hand, glad to be going somewhere. I also slept in a bed next to a window where a black widow too up residence and made a web. I tossed insects into her web. We co-existed closely with no problems. It's amazing how much people don't know about spiders. THEY DON'T SUCK BLOOD..
They suck up liquefied organs...
Of insects
No, they just dissolve your insides (blood and all) and drink it.
I had one that looked just like her named LuLu. I really enjoyed having her for the year she lived. It's a shame they don't live longer. These spiders also cured my fear of spiders in general.
Spider a wonderful little animals and they keep many disease spreading pests under control. They deserve a lot more respect than they get.
Seeing the wonder in her eyes looking at the spider swinging from her wrist at the end was adorable
These insects aren't like others, I've had strange encounters with them like them literally finding me several days later & then just being on me & looking at me.
Very awesome little guys.
They aren't insects. They are arachnids.
@@scy1038 oh yeah, I forgot that. Though they are all invertebrates. When I hear "medulla oblongata" it makes me sick, thats6why I vote for Joe Biden.
@@scy1038 ........ You mean porches spider.
One special thing about jumping spiders is they have amazing eyesight! Which is why they’re so personable, they can see us properly. Very intelligent and sweet little babies. I don’t have one yet, but watching videos on them and etc has made me less and less afraid of spiders 😊
I've actually made friends with a wild jumping spider on several occasions. They have a variety of personalities, so it's not a sure bet, but if you extend a *friendly* hand to one of them, they might get curious and check you out! I had one that followed me across the patio to chill on my clothes, and all I did was watch it close without hurting it for a couple minutes. It looked right at me, looking right at it, and came out of the grass, across the brickwork, and up my pants just to check me out, back. I released it into some tall grass afterwards, but it was cool to experience.
How awesome was this to watch. I loved it and to the lady who befriended these little ones , you rock... Beautiful person inside and out. Thanks for sharing your special moments. ❤
I'm afraid of spiders but this spider is a whole another level of cuteness
I always loved spiders, it must suck to be terrified of them.
I always tell people that if they would just take time to educate themselves about spiders, they would be alot less afraid of them. I find them completely fascinating!!!🕸💖🕷
depends on your level of fear, i've seen many videos of peoples pet spiders and i'm like "Oh they are not that bad." but the second I see a huge ass spider running across my wall my brain goes into fight mode, I could never sleep if i let a spider run loose
Ya totally - you should try petting a brown recluse spider! :P JK - don't do that. That's like saying one should try petting a Brazilian wandering spider or a Sydney funnel web spider... some spiders you just DON'T TOUCH or get near... PERIOD. I'm sure you know all of this though seeing as how you're educated on arachnids and whatnot.
That is absolutely incredible!! I've never taken the time to really just watch a spider like that before. I'm the one who see's a spider and immediately turns and goes the other way. And now I'm like they're actually really kind of cute and that's thanks to this video. Thanks for sharing your story.
She is keeping her in that small box.
I feel the same. Gretel was just amazing. She had a beautiful little soul and personality! The fact that she needed love and companionship means she was aware of her feelings and the world around her in ways we don't attribute to spiders. God bless this young lady for giving more of Gretel's kind love and happiness!
Why is it actually so adorable 🥹🥹🥹🥹
I love Spiders since i was a little Boy, but everyone was jumping, yelling and running when they see a Spider.
Now People keep them as cute little Pets and im so happy about it! They are not only cute but very helpfull
with those damn Flies in Summer (i really hate Flies)
Jumping spiders are so cute. They actually look and pay attention to you like no other spider can! Good thing too. Imagine a Bird Eating Tarantula looking at you or a Huntsman. LOL
I would only be wary of the really deadly ones like the Brazilian Wanderer or the Funnel-Webs.
@@snakeeyes9246 Yeah those Funnel Web spiders in Australia aint no joke! I HAAATE spiders! 😳
So cute that the Jumping Spider looks at the Camera, and it's a great thing that you kept it going through the Jumping Spider's honor.
Such a beautiful story. RIP Gretel💖🙏🏼
I absolutely love the little faces of jumping spiders
This makes me appreciate spiders so much more, we really take our small friends for granted 🕷❤
What a cute fuzz muffin 😍 💖. What a short life but you made her life so much more enjoyable!
I just ran into a jumping spider on my table, for some reason. It was odd because i looked at him and he (or she) definitely looked back at me with intelligence and the body language was unmistakable. He was saying, "i am brave spider! Dont mess with me!" But i could tell it was all an act. I just left him/her there to live out his life as he wanted. He was no doubt very aware and smart.
I once feared them too, now it's just love and respect.
I adore these little jumping spiders 🥰 When I was living in Turkey, they used to come and sit on the railing of my balcony and just watch me. The sweetest!!
Thank you for sharing Gretel's story with us and I'm sorry for your loss. It's amazing how pets can inspire and transform the lives of the humans they interact with.
Epic little Spiddoes these guys, I love how they are so observant and timid, slow (in terms of sitting still and just dandering around), then lightning (flash) fast when they need to be/jump.
What an amazing woman. What an amazing spider, Gretel you were a special girl 😊
When I'm cleaning and moving things around and a spider runs out scared I move back and speak very softly, calmly for it not to be afraid. Nearly every time the spider will stop running and just watch me. Then I gently speak to it as I capture it to remove. I also have a fear of spiders that I have gotten under control. The common house/garden spiders are very gentle and want nothing to do with us. I like being more respectful and aware vs screaming and killing them.
Beautiful story. Almost lost it when she lost her. Used to be afraid of spiders when much much younger, but I can treat them the same way I do other living creatures nowadays. Thanks so much for sharing the video. She was adorable! 🧡🐾
I love jumping spiders. Always help them out if I see them. Any spider really but they are my fav
I love the way they move their heads around. Reminds me of some sort of droid from Star Wars
That’s a beautiful relationship you two had❤
What a way to get over your fear. Good for you
My condolences for the loss of your little buddy. May she rest in peace.
Hello Lisa
How are you doing?
Life is life big small we should respect it all
According to science studies, jumping spiders have most developed brains out of all spiders (and ''insects'' all together). So it explains why out of all other spiders and insect creatures, jumping spiders are most unique with their social behavior / unique personality.
Never thought I'd cry over a spider dying. But that's genuinely sad, losing a little friend like that. Good job on overcoming the spider feat tho, I still can't.
I took my son to the park last year, at one point he started pushing other kids and blocking them from getting into the roofed enclosure over the slide.
When i went to figure out what hes doing, turns out there was a jumping spider on the wall and he was afraid the other kids would hurt it if theysaw him. We scooped the little critter up and he carried it gently over to a bush to release it.
They really are just skitish little things that arent as frightning as they look.
What a great 'job' you've done raising your son; kids who are taught to respect wildlife, pets and nature in general will also respect others ❤️🎉🥳. Blessings 😊
I like jumping spiders. I remember working at the computer one day when I noticed this tiny brown jumping spider slowly making its way along the desk. I left it alone and ten minutes later, I looked up to find it staring at the watch I left under the monitor. It approached cautiously, looked at the monitor, then looked at the watch. A minute later, it went nearer before finally climbing onto it. I finally realised it was fascinated by the moving seconds hand when its gaze was directed at it. 🤣 It followed after then stopped and I could guess what it's thinking; what is this thing that's moving round and round in front of me?
what a beautiful friendship 🥺
Animals, Critters are so beautiful and unique!!!! They all serve a purpose and deserve love and respect!!!
Awesome. I interact with insects a lot more now that I'm older. I talk to them. This was so cool to see.
Jumpys are the best for getting over that fear. Misunderstood spider memes really broke that ground for me lol!
Jumpers are amazing spiders. For such a tiny critter they have outstanding eyesight. They come in a variety of beautiful colors, and sizes. They are skilled hunters, and will keep your house void of unwated guests. Very cute little fuzzy faces that don't bite.
I love how animated, colorful and furry these little guys are with their big eyes! They love living in gate latches and locks, it seems. I love when they pop out to say hello! 💗
