Would it be easier (in case something wasn't right), to reconnect the battery before reassembly so you don't have to tear down again?
How are those crimp fittings getting electricity? It appears to me you are crimping them right on to the plastic coating? Did you strip the wires first?

Yes you should test before assembly. I tested the wires for current and knew that things were ok.
The crimp fittings splice the wire as you connect them. So no stripping of the wire.

It's actually pretty easy. There is jump connectors under the hood.
