    I think that the fact that Master of Puppets, after 36 years, is still in the top 30 most played songs of all time on spotify global saids it all. It's the only non pop song in the top 50.
    Some albums are made to endure the test of time and will apply to new generations.
    That's the definition of a masterpiece.

    Fun fact: This song was made I think in 2 weeks before the album was supposed to come out. During the making of this album, Hardwired is revealed to be the last song made for the album, and it's because they didn't have an opener. So literally, they made this song basically at the last minute before the coming of the album. And in return, I think personally they got the best opener for their concerts and a fucking beautiful short thrash song with a fine ass production. Told ya, the album Hardwired... to Self-Destruct is a return to form, being a Thrash/Heavy Metal album, referencing in some way all their previous albums. Hope you make more Metallica reactions more, I always look most forward to these, because I love your reactions. Hope you'll like the rest of Hardwired...to Self-Destruct and Death Magnetic albums.

    • @Suquartz
      @Suquartz 3 года назад +1

      Also, you shouldn't get copyrighted for the the entirety of the Hardwired album, since every song from it (Lords of Summer included) have music videos made for them. I don't enjoy all of them, but they still all have good production. If you ever decide to listen and react to Here Comes Revenge, ignore the music video, it's not really that good. The story behind the song though... well, I'll let ya figure that out. The story behind Here Comes Revenge is really compelling in a weird and sad way, when you find out what inspired it.

    Thanks for the shout-out, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
    Just a heads up: Halo on Fire is very different to this song and also not really comparable to "old Metallica".
    I feel like the Hardwired album is supposed to be a representation of Metallica's whole career. It is bookended with two thrash songs (carrying over that tradition from Puppets and Justice), with the opener being the closest thing to a Kill 'Em All song they've written since at least 1984. Then we're going even further back in time with an hommage to the NWOBH bands that inspired them in their early days (Atlas, Rise!). But most of the stuff in between is more reminiscent of the Black Album and (Re)Load era.
    Halo on Fire however is the one song in which I hear influence from Metallica's most despised work to date - St. Anger and Lulu (but with clean, tight production and a decent vocal performance). Not saying it is a bad song by any means, but it is something very different and I hope you don't go in expecting another "Spit Out The Bone"!

    I truly believe that in 20 years or so, the Hardwired album will be held in the same esteem as Puppets, Ride, Kill and Justice. The lyrics and music on this album are phenomenal from start to finish. One thing I really love is that even the slower songs have sneaky fast driving beats behind them, something I noticed when watching the three songs they did with the San Francisco symphony in 2019. I noticed on Moth into a Flame just how fast the violins were playing!

  • @HypeWrecks
    @HypeWrecks 3 года назад

    Once again, great reaction. Can’t wait for you to get into the other songs from the album.
    I was wondering: I think it would be interesting for you to go back and listen to some of the best songs from Load and Reload now that you may be more open-minded and have a more objective ear for music as a RUclips reactor than you may have had as a fan of Metallica in the 90s. While it may not be thrash, the songwriting is still incredible in my opinion. Is that something that you would be interested in?
    As always, I absolutely love your channel and your honesty. I love the little bites of music theory that you incorporate into your reactions. Super refreshing. Thank you!

    They’ve actually used that riff (or variations) several times.
    It reminds me of the middle section of The Four Horsemen (just before “Time has taken its toll on you…”), but that is much slower.
    It’s also reminiscent of “That Was Just Your Life” verse riff, but that is much FASTER.

    I felt the same way about the song first time I heard it when Metallica played it live on Howard Stern... Blew my ever lovin' mind, I felt some Battery and Damage Inc along with the songs you mention. I'm old school Metallica through and through. First record I ever bought was Kill 'Em All in 83 when I was a mere 13 and have been hooked ever since. I hated where they went from Load to Death Magnetic (which would have been a great album if Rick Ruben didn't ruin it with all that compression and jacking up the volume!). But I never stopped listening to the first 5 albums. You weren't a fan of Atlas Rise, you mentioned it was a turd even The Warning couldn't polish.. LoL!!! Lars even found his left foot and played some killer double bass too... Great song!!!

    @sticktoyourdrums8177 3 года назад +4

    This is my theory. Metallica has never strayed far from their original sound but twice. We just don’t get very many albums from them. It’s already been confirmed by the band that Load and Reload were the same album but split because they had so much material from the gap between Black Album and when they started writing for load. The next album technically was St. Anger, which was them trying out shit with their new bassist. Death Magnetic, they started getting their feel back. After years of touring on Death Magnetic and all their previous albums, they put together Hardwired. They started getting the Cliff vibes from Robert and that is what resulted in the last two albums being gems. Because they put years in between albums, it seems like trash after trash for decades, even though it’s been two albums of garbage. And it wasn’t really garbage just not what we think of when we talk Metallica. Accept for st anger. That was total shit. I don’t include garage days and S&M do to them being a cover cd of shit they played at shows and a live concert of all their previous work. I hated on their 90’s work until I heard the original Wiskey in the Jar next to their version...lol! I was blown away by the difference. So, I’ve got to give them the benefit of the doubt. If they truly were a completely different band, they wouldn’t have kept playing all the old stuff at their shows. They just lost their way for a short time. I forgave them for the experimental shit since they returned back to what makes them great. I’m glad they haven’t forgotten.

    You might enjoy Moth Into Flame. Structurally, it's quite similar to Disposable Heroes, although I'd say it's a bit less heavy and a bit more on the melodic side.
    Not sure if you'd dig Halo on Fire. While structurally, it's pretty similar to your standard Metallica half-ballad like Fade to Black or Sanitarium, it sounds a lot more like a song from Load imo. Something like Until it Sleeps or The Outlaw Torn comes to mind.
    If you're looking for something more thrashy, try My Apocalypse from 2008's Death Magnetic. While I prefer Hardwired and Spit Out the Bone, it's probably the only other newer Metallica song that I'd consider pure thrash.
    Another song that I'd highly recommend is That Was Just Your Life from Death Magetic. Like every song on Death Magnetic, the production is absolute trash, but from a songwriting perspective, I see a ton of Blackened in That Was Just Your Life. It really feels like a song that could have been ripped straight from the ...And Justice For All writing sessions.

    I like almost everything since Death Magnetic but if you are looking for the old school Metallica sound.
    From Death Magnetic: Thats Was Just Your Life, The Day That Never Comes, Suicide Redemption (Instrumental since To Live is to Die) Unforgiven III and maybe not old school but amazing song The Judas Kiss
    From Hardwired to Self-Destruct:
    Hardwired “check”, Spit out the Bone “check”, Atlas Rise, Moth Into Flame, Halo on Fire, and if you like the heavy slow tempo songs like The things that should not be or Harvester of Sorrow, Dream No More is heavy as shit 🤘😎 guitars down to a complete tone D

    Actually, when the Black album came out I was very dissapointed and in my teenage years I just thought: What!? What a commercial crap! But listen: every coin has two sides. This album attracted so many new fans who would have never listened to heavy music before and slowly they started listening to more other Metallica songs etc. So the band did a great service to heavy metal fanbase...
    BTW If you're gonna review their Moth Into Flame as you said check out also this version with Lady Gaga (Yes! I couldn't believe it either!) from Grammy Awards 2017:

    Ok moth into flame is bad ass...halo on fire I just love but its not fast and heavy but a great hard rock song..one of my favorites...also atlas rise is fucking really cool...guitar sounds alot like Iron maiden.. moth into flame and halo on fire are my favorite songs on the album.....I don't know if you will like the whole album because some of it has the load and reload vibe..but better..some songs have a black sabbath feel to them you might like...hard to say....either way i consider it one of their better albums...
