    Fun fact: the reason of James Highs happening are mostly because he has been singing the kill em all songs completely on that voice to kind of get a similar pitch that he had during that era, it's like he's trying to imitate his younger self... And he started doing that during the Hardwired tour so he has gotten a lot better with that over time

      On the album James has specifically said he was trying to push the boundaries on his vocal ranges to try something different. Clearly all those vocal excercises he has been doing for years has worked

      This song doesn’t really do anything for me, not close to being among my favorite songs off of 72 Seasons… Don’t like the riff… Like that it’s short, but liked Hardwired WAY more…

    Metallica is heavily inspired by Motörhead and Mercyful Fate (among others), so this song being an hommage to these bands doesn't surprise me in the slightest, especially since they did covers of these bands several times.
    Now, we're gonna have to get you to react to some of the other songs. My personal picks:
    - 72 Seasons
    - If Darkness Had a Son
    - Screaming Suicide
    And thanks to Charles for making this happen.🤘

      "And thanks to Charles for making this happen."
      Absolutely, man! You're welcome!🤘And while "Lux Æterna" is for sure one of my favorites on the album, "Screaming Suicide" is actually at the top for me. Another one of the top tracks for me off of 72 is "Room of Mirrors."

      @@THEDavidHeretic Looks like that fundraiser is dead in the water, given how little you've raised in the past 4 days.
      Unless some miracle happens, you're probably better off just throwing the requested tracks in the queue and react to them whenever you get to them. It'll take longer, but this seems like a pointless endeavour to me.

    All right! I love this reaction! I didn't prioritize it earlier, cause I actually thought after the charity drive attempt that someone either had requested and put it in the queue, or someone was going to. Then I saw that half of 2023 went by, and it still wasn't showing up as an upcoming reaction, so I thought if no one else has, then I have to be the one to do it! Yours is my favorite reaction to this because a lot of people were hating on this track, saying that it was a weak version of Metallica's earlier Thrash days. It's fine that that's their opinion, but I honestly found it annoying to listen to what I felt was baseless whining and attempts to find something wrong with it to hate on it. For example, Kirk's guitar solo here was the subject of some controversy among reactors, with some actually calling it awful. But you're the first person who's done a reaction to this I have seen that mentioned Hank Shermann with regard to what Kirk was doing! That's why I had a good time watching this because it was great to see that it gave you so much joy that it instantly brought to your mind some great 70s and 80s Euro Metal bands. And that also makes the Motörhead T-Shirt you were wearing a really nice touch during this reaction!
    I love that you also mentioned James' fantastic vocals here. It is, in my opinion, a consistent strong point in the "72 Seasons" album. Like you said, he obviously worked on it, and it's amazing to see that he hasn't stopped trying to improve himself no matter how many years he's been in the game. And considering all that he's been through personally, it's inspirational to see him keep bettering himself. It's never too late to improve your life!
    And yeah, "Lux Æterna" is their shortest track. And here's the interesting thing: It gives their "72 Seasons" album a unique characteristic in their discography because, at the same time, this album also features their longest song to date: "Inamorata"
    After all the hate Metallica was getting for this (for some reason), it was refreshing to see that you enjoyed it and appreciated the music. Awesome, man! 🤘
    And about that Silver Play button, if you ever do get it, don't throw it away! Remember, that prize represents your fans!
    Excited to see the companion reaction video to this which is you reacting to the Drumeo video drummer Thomas Lang doing Metallica's "Lux Æterna" which is coming in just a few days!

    First, a big 'Thank you' to Charles, but no lipstick and no smoochie. Sorry, bruh. 😂
    Second, I really like the song, and David scored it higher than I thought he would. I didn't know about the music history and homages paid though, so I see why David scored it higher. Thanks 👍 for the lesson. I may start digging into Fate.
    Third, the Rant... Oh boy. I think this is the first time I've ever seen David go on a full rant (complete with intro). Anyways David, I appreciate the honesty, but I've never been one to DEMAND anything. Your channel, your rules. If I'm not intrigued by the title, I'll continue on. If I'm into it, I'll watch, I'll appreciate the original artists' work, your commentary, your time and effort to create the video.
    Thank you, David, for all the FREE CONTENT you put out there for all to see. Just don't let some lazy-language, keyboard-warrior ass hats turn what you love into a f#@king job.
    There's MY rant. Feel free to ignore any and all.

    I commented once about this song, and was told how the process goes and was totally fine with waiting. So I don't take any offense to what you said, and I agree that people become entitled once the get behind a keyboard.
    I was also fine with donating and waiting to see if we get up to the limit. When we couldn't, also understood that once the reaction never came.
    It is what you do. You take a shot, and wait to see if you make the goal. If you don't, you say let's do better next time, you don't hound the person to get the result you wanted, that's not it works. Simple really.

    The one thing that stood out on this album was James’s vocals. He made some unusual choices and went to places, vocally that I haven’t heard him do before. Maybe it’s because he’s aging and his voice is changing, but that’s not a bad thing.

    Metallica means a ton to the world of metal. their music in the 80's and 90's was epic. Later albums OK, but not prime Metallica. Look, James still has a really good voice unlike some other bands touring after decades where the vocalist is terrible.
    I am tainted by the technical wizardry and compositions of Lovebites now, so this song to me now just sounds simple. Definitely and undeniably Metallica, and it still rocks better than a lot of metal out there today. But the song just doesn't excite me.

    when I first heard this I got Garage Days vibes (Diamond Head) a little more in just the general guitar tone.
    I know this may sound cliché but it really does sound old school (nwobhm) but fresh at the same time.

    I'm big fans of Metallica but I'm not listening this album. St. Anger i still listen but this album was not. I don't know, seem like this album sound boring for me. Seem like Metallica can't even produce song like Battery or Dyers eve anymore. But i still love Ride the Lightning album. Masterpiece for me.
    I listening metalcore or deathcore now. Even I'm not young anymore 😅

    OMG. This is such a fanboy score. The bar is so low for Metallica. I'd bet a "how are you doing" bark from James would get a 9 on here. I've watched a few videos of David Heretic, and I always appreciated the honesty and open mindedness of the reviews. The fact that David is musically knowledgeable is a massive plus too because I know that he knows what he's listening to most of the time. When it comes to Metallica though, I don't think that David has the objectivity to review them like he does everyone else. He's too big a fan. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a fan. However, it does mean that anytime David reviews Metallica, I'll just skip it because I don't think he's going to put on the same critical ears that he does for most other artists.
    David, have you ever thought about doing some sort of retrospective on songs that you reviewed and have changed your mind about over time? I think that that would be super interesting. As you know, your brain (and mine and everyone else's) can only process so much the first time that you listen to something.

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  Год назад +2

      I have thought about it, and maybe once the que is gone and I can cut back on the number of videos I do every month, maybe I'll do that every once in a while.
      As far as being a fanboy, remember I stopped listening to Metallica in the 90's. I wasn't a big fan of The Black Album, and I absolutely hated Load and Reload. I stopped listening to anything new from them after Reload, I never even gave it a chance. It's because of this channel that I'm discovering that their new stuff is actually really good, some of it even great.
      Don't get it twisted though, there are still some songs I'm not a fan of from their newer material. I've done a couple of reactions to some of the newer stuff where I just wasn't a fan, and the scores reflected my opinion. If you go back and watch some of the Metallica reactions, I know you'll find them. Trust me, I'm staying objective when it comes to Metallica. Truth be told, I'm still hesitant every time I do a Metallica reaction. I just don't want to lose my faith in them again, especially after I just got a little bit of it back.

    • @Owlyross
      @Owlyross Год назад

      I'd actually say that David is pretty honest about things and has been very critical of Metallica through the 90s, and has also been brought to the newer stuff by people basically saying "if you like the old stuff, you'll dig this. It's not overwhelming praise either, there's critical appraisal also

    Just wondering. I'm not sure if you've ever explained, but I was wondering why there is no Megadeth? Has it not been requested? Or are you not a fan? P.s you kick ass Charles!

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  Год назад +3

      I think there might be a request for Megadeth in the que, but I'm not 100% sure.
      Megadeth is tricky because I was a HUGE fan of theirs. I owned every single album from Killing Is My Business all the way through Youthanasia, and I knew every single song by heart. So if I do a reaction to them, it would have to be a song from an album after Youthanasia.
