I love all the little details of his philosophy hidden in the editing of this. You can see "DOOM" scanning through some interesting stuff that I think is pretty relevant to understanding a lot of the meaning in his words. Notably, he enters the store to The Catcher in the Rye, passes by Fables Of Abundance: A Cultural History Of Advertising In America, Webster's Dictionary of Synonyms, browses a section of Marxist philosophy, a section on economic theory (with a book about finding patterns dead center in the frame), a section with books pertaining to Christianity, military history, colonization, and finally settles on The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer.
That last one, The Canterbury Tales, is important because it ties all the previous ones together. It's a collection of tales told by characters of differing socio-economic status which is a critique upon society, classism, moral relativism, religion, and the liminal feeling of being somewhere you don't belong. In this video, we see a thread of DOOM's entire rap career which acts as a microcosm of the greater whole of his beliefs. This man was so far beyond his time that he may not even have been of this world.

Real knowledge, true identity. critque on surveilance, you think you're looking at me, but who even am i? he's tying to find himself, and i think the store symbolizes vain pleasues and vices. even the library too because the books are just as addictive and can lead you down the wong path just as well. especially philosophy. some would intepret that he's found "peace" I think in the end he still hasn't found his identity, and he's just become an obsever. which doesn't seem like much, but to be real, we don't know anything. the least we can know is that we're here, and we're experiencing things. And nothing we expeience can be attributed to ourselves, which is why the face masks reflects everything back, and he remains identity-less.

I love the meaning behind this video. Doom walks into a convenience store... the epitome of consumerism and modern culture, but cheap thrills, porn, food and booze don't excite him anymore, he refuses to take them in. Instead, his mask turns into a mirror, a device that reflect things back. And what does he do with it? He walks into a bookstore. He reflects back the culture that he assimilates. Doom's rap is a reflection of his own superior erudition.
Rest in peace. Hands down one of the most creative in our time.
