Avoid the older estates. The architecture usually tells a story. Your landlord is the one who's supposed to deal with these issues.

I lived in the Fourways and Dainfern areas for 15 years, regular water outages were a problem indeed 😢. It's a matter of poor balance of property development vs infrastructure development. That area is developing in a super high speed, getting super congested. All along William Nicol, from the beginning of Bryansyon all the way to the end of Dainfern, beginning of Kyalami.

"I could also use a rotary phone, but I aint"🤣🤣 I am SO grateful for you and CTN; you guys are always transparent. I highly dislike when people try to paint a rosy, perfect picture of JoBurg. No place is perfect, including SA, and I'm still willing to take the bitter with the sweet (I only do high-rises with all the conveniences, so ant's aren't happening). I will never apologize for living the way I worked hard to live. Thank you for sharing this.

All the best with the house hunting.

I got one word for ya'll - PRETORIA. I worked and lived in SA and I have to encourage ya'll to move to Pretoria instead, when I was living there, Waterkloof Ridge was the best, then there's also Faerie Glen, Menlo Park and Garsfontein. All Lovely areas and most of the embassy staff were located in this area so there's a sizable ex-pat community. You can still use the G-Train to Rosebank but you might fall in love with Menlyn Maine instead.

I forgot to tell you to avoid older suburbs fam, they will have no resale value in the future and you mostly rely directly on the municipality to resolve issues which takes a lot longer. Millenials mostly buy in modern Estates or Complexes where the management of the Estate will sit on the municipality's neck until the problem (Water/Electrical Outage) is resolved. Investing in a stand-alone house or house in the older suburbs is a huge gamble. And these Estate Agents be Cappin, watch out for that...🧢🧢🧢

I know someone who’s still paying a bond for a house in Bezuidenhout Valley, and the house is worth way less than its purchase price. They are struggling to sell it, and the rental market is terrible over there. I recommend extensive research before purchasing a property for investment.

Hopefully you can get the issues sorted but it sounds like the house needs a lot of work from plumbing to electrics to sealing and much more.
    Total renovation needed!
You may in future want to look at a home with it's own borehole and storage tank & treatment facility. This is the norm in West Africa and rural SA.
Also a house may not appear old due to recent or frequent decoration over the years. however, that hides all that 'lies behind the scenes' which probably hasn't been renewed since the 80s. Even our bodies need maintenance/renewal.

It was predominantly owned by English farmers. In the early 2000, when property market starts to pick up, there was a lot of housing development.
