      It's going to require a full collapse of the entertainment industry, and all fresh new faces to fix this.
      Personally i've completely given up on movies and TV as a medium at this point, it's just trash and propaganda now (there might be the odd good ones, but i'm done digging through the pile of manure trying to find them), and i've given up on most of gaming aswell, as most of the big players have now also gone woke (there's still some good stuff coming out of the AA, indie and Japanese industries, but finding it is getting harder). I'm actually glad i never got into comic books, because that has spared me from dealing with the woke garbage that's become.
      On the flipside, it's done my health some good, as i've started working out and going for walks a lot more, and i've become a much more routined Bass player.

      Honestly, with statements like that from the British Film Institute it would put you off pursuing a filmmaking career. I think you need to break out on your own like Richard Linklater did. He watched films for ten years and makes lofty ideas and somehow some of them work. He didn’t do the films every weekend with his friends, or the fancy filmmaking school and PTA quit film school and got a refund and used the money to make a documentary on the porn industry. There’s no set route. Lucky is definitely invoked, but interest and passion are the most important factors. I think many people who are into films convince themselves they are passionate but true passion is something that shows itself in your work. If it’s meant to be it’ll be, my friend.

      It's a 2-way street. I have seen qualified Blacks and Hispanics that were not hired and ridiculed for their race, while less qualified Whites were. If we are truly going to eradicate bigotry, we have to a. Recognize and address it when it happens to us or our tribe AND b. Speak out when members of our tribe oppress others. Tribe can be defined in terms of race, gender, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Bigotry is a 2-way street so both sides must be addressed when they commit bigoted acts. It can't be a 'bigotry for thee, but not for me' situation. However, people on the ________(left, right, Black, White, male, female, fill the blank) only care about when it happens to members of their tribe. But when their tribe members do it, they protect them. This hypocrisy is hurting us all and preventing us from making progress.

    He says he wishes he was more articulate? I was hanging onto his every word. He shows real insight about so much that's going on, right now. An intelligent guy who, crucially, understands the value of curiosity - Lack of knowledge is not our biggest problem - It's all out there, but lack of curiosity is holding us back.

    Clifton, you are a brave man and when you expressed doubt about getting work, my heart sank for you. Surely this will not be the case, and as someone I love dearly said “He who seeks to keep his life will lose it, and he who seeks to lose it, will find it”. I am trusting the latter will be true for you. As a NY actor myself, I am particularly grateful for your thoughtful and courageous pushback against the insanity.

Clifton has so many of these naturally... his sense of humanity comes through so effortlessly too. Will be chasing his work and thank for introducing him to my life. 🙏

    Hey Konstantine. I too had a cinema pass for many years and slowly realised that more often than not I felt that ''there was two hours of my life I would never get back''. I occasionally watch a movie at home and more often than not I thank God I did not waste money going to see it. Good interview. I like this guest.

    In my case, it takes quite a bit to grab and hold my attention, but Clifton managed to do that from beginning to end and I'm sure to go back and listen to the whole interview again shortly. In fact, your past few guests have given me hope that we just might be able to salvage this world from the insanity that's trying to bring it down.
    I'd just like to thank you guys at Triggernometry, Konstantin and Francis, for the work you're doing. It may not look like much at first sight, but by providing the stage to have these discussions while offering people like Clifton a place to speak their minds, you're playing a big role in turning this whole thing around.

    The heroic nature of many female characters is their bravery: that they do what they do despite the threats of sexual and physical violence. Taking that threat away by pretending that they can beat the sh!t out of any man diminishes them.

  • @jenwal420
    @jenwal420 3 года назад +3

    I've been saying the same thing about realism in our stories as Clifton is saying. Shows, movies, and plays that are based in believability are the most enthralling. Even CGI portrayals that are done well sometimes kill the films these days. When we used claymation and puppets at least the characters in question looked like you could touch them, they could be right in front of you.

    I love everything this man says! Thanks for having him on. Clifton Duncan, if you see this, you're doing the right thing by speaking up. More people should. May your career skyrocket!
    Also, as someone who works in Hollywood, I have another answer to Konstantin's question about why movies have gotten so unoriginal. It's the simple, obvious one: since corporations have taken over Hollywood, studios are run by non-creative people who care only about maximizing profits. They discovered years ago that remakes, sequels, and familiar franchises earn the biggest guaranteed revenue (not just in ticket sales but in toys, t-shirts, games, merch) so they rarely take a chance on an original story. The studio moguls of yesterday were also interested in profits, but they cared equally about making great entertainment. Now it's just about money.
    But I feel the decline in movies is also related to the general cultural stagnation we see in art, music, fashion etc. Kurt Andersen observes this in his book Evil Geniuses. Cars in 1960 looked nothing like cars in 1970, which looked nothing like cars in 1980. But today, cars look roughly the same as they did 20 years ago. Women's clothing stores have been peddling the same regurgitated 1970s styles for at least 13 years now. Fashion trends used to change drastically every 5 to 10 years. How is no one noticing this?? It blows my mind. But it is hard to pinpoint the exact problem.

    • @openmusic3904
      @openmusic3904 3 года назад

      I think a big factor in stagnation of styles is owing to mass, factory production. Alongside the production of say, cars, falling into fewer and fewer multi-national corporations. In many ways, you could argue that technology as caused its own stagnation.

    • @Kittenlike
      @Kittenlike 3 года назад

      @@openmusic3904 Yes, good point. Although cars and clothes etc. have long been mass-produced, the population boom plus globalization have probably led to a mega-mass-production situation in which products are more uniform in their style, less distinctive than ever. That explains why all the new apartment buildings springing up in US cities look identical: boxy, midcentury inspired, and hideous. I still don't get why most people don't seem to notice or care. Maybe because they are too immersed in tech/social media artificiality to look around at the real world? Is that what you mean by tech stagnation?

  • @justanopinionsincerelynoof3860

    Oh thank you for this interview! I tried to watch a movie few days ago, 'I Care A Lot' - two women doing really, horrible, unfair things to old people for money because "women can be tough and nasty too". Yeah, they are heroines. I am a woman but I found the movie unbearable. After a scene where our heroine says, 'do you know how many men have threatened me?', I had enough. I mean....if a man calls you a b**** when you cross him, it's not because he is a man. It's because he is a bully. And bullies come in all sizes and genders. Dave Chapelle has talked about a time when he was threatened. Even children get threats.
    I started rooting for the human-trafficking-mafia-guys midway of the movie! That's how much I was turned off by the feminist lecture. So, good job present-day Hollywood writers👍

    Clifton's speech about the need for curiosity 1:00:00 really got me. As a scientist I had thought the world of acting was completely different to mine. But this one principle unites everything. The death of curiosity, open mindedness and growth of tribalism is seeping into all areas of society and causing widespread damage.

    Most European movies are not preachy at all. They have no good/evil characters, no happy ending, no politically correct lecturing, and often no moral of the story. Why is there such a difference? Why Hollywood treats everybody like primary school kinds, who need to be lectured?
