So by that standard, the Tigers should be restricted from raising prices until they make the playoffs.

I think the answer is simple. Patience. Patience because that's what needs to happen at this moment. We added more pitching to a seemingly dominant pitching roster. It started off really and has cooled down a little, but it's still one of the best pitching rosters in baseball. That's why we are treading water at this point. Management got that part right. So no one should be complaining there. The issue is the hitting. Before the season, it looked like this lineup would be able to at least do enough hittonf. Add that to the pitching, and there was a consensus around the fan base and management that we would have a top spot in the Central. But then Torkelson had an absolutely shocking performance. I think it's fair to speculate that he should've had somewhere between 14-18 homeruns before the All-Star break. Meadows was rushed, but plenty of fans and management thought he would hit. Carpenter is hurt, and getting pitched hit against lefties. Colt Kieth is still acclimating, and no one thought it would be this bad for him. Not this bad. The offense being this anemic wasn't expected. It definitely wasn't the strong suit but it wasn't expected to be this anemic. Unfortunately, that is where they miscalculated. So now, Tigers need to adjust. Nothing wrong with being patient while also maybe trading a player that can bring in a young hitter that has some MLB time and looks like he could contribute this year and next year. Don't rush anything, though. This team is still young and has potential as early as next year if they make a few more tweaks and trust the process.

I am in between these poles you presented. On one hand....begrudgingly,....some patience is needed and warranted in this situation. A young hiitter or two might turn the corner. They might find consistency in these next 30 games and go 20-10. It just might happen in the near future.
On the other hand, if they signed two more bats then this situation wouldnt be so precarious. Two more bsts would have been feasible with a lower middling salary. I am sick of waiting on the kids or on a cheapskate owner who simply doesn't want to pay until some magical day arises. I want see the Tigers onvolved in meaningful September baseball pushing for a playoff berth.
So there. My emotions are in a knot.
    Go Tigers.....whuptee fn dooo.

Let these kids come up and prove themselves. The pitching is there. If they stay in the race, get Verlander and bring him home.

LOL..the Tigers are not in any way, shape or form, "baseball royalty." Sure, they are an original charter team of the American League, but royalty? Very, very few teams in MLB can lay claim that title. Despite my utter hatred for the Yankees, they are one. St. Louis is probably the other. If not for the recent success, maybe Boston. Thats probably it. Thats the list. The Tigers are relevant once or twice a decade or two and thats it. Strong following when they are good, forgotten when they aren't. Frustrating as a fan. My hope, as a Tiger fan, is that at some point, the family sells the team to a private equity firm who is actually sees the value of the team and its fanbase instead of a auxiliary entertainment venue. Until that happens, its unfortunately going to be the same ol same ol.

The games were usually crap. I mean my goodness I wish the Tigers would care enough to spend something. Maybe the kids they have in the system will turn out to be something, maybe they won't. Not expecting Dodgers or Yankee money but at least try to suplement the kids with something. Big, huge difference between where they are and the median MLB payroll. I don't want to turn 70 before my Tigers get a breath of playoff baseball. Thus my original statement stands. Tigers are no where near baseball royalty. Never have been. Wish they were though.

JV’s contract expires at the end of the season and Houston are sellers go get him. You won’t have to give up much to get him and you move Maeda to long relief or DFA him. The rotation of Skubal, Flaherty, Verlander, Olson and Mize I’d put that up against ANY rotation in all of baseball.

My answer is simply, I am sick of seeing this team be mediocre or bad year after year. I completely understand we HAD to go through a rebuild and have been patient with that. However this team was 2nd in the AL Central in 2022. This team had winning records against every division rival in 2023 and if MLB didn't change the schedule where you face every single team, Detroit wins enough of those extra division games to maybe take the division. But in 2024 the Detroit Tigers were selected by so many people to be the #2 team in this division and to make the playoffs on at least a wild card. Heck some people even had them going 1st over Minnesota. While no one could have truly predicted KC and Cleveland to be as good as they are, Detroit has expectations now because this should be a team that plays October baseball. This team should be winning at least 3 games out of every 5 with Skubal, Olson and Flaherty but they aren't. The team selling would send a huge Shockwave through this fanbase that Scott Harris will not want. We don't want or care about potential prospects right now. Get wins

I opted out of being a Tiger fan after 2016. Getting rid of all your favorite players and "rebuilding" is not what any lifelong fan wants to hear and see happen. Apparently they are still rebuilding and trying to do it on the cheap. I knew it would all go south after Mike Illitch was gone. What a shame. I wish these team "owners" would realize that the team is not theirs. It belongs to the fans and the Detroit area. They are just the stewards. But of course to them it's big business.

This is the difference between someone who's actually played the game, and those who haven't. Gibby knows what a WS team looks like. He knows the feeling behind a team that's a true contender and one that's not! Right now, here are the teams that are true contenders in the AL: Yankees, Orioles, Rays, Guardians, Rangers, Astros, and Mariners. Why? Because they've all been playoff teams the past 3 to 5 years or right there contending for a WC spot. Pretenders are the following: Jays, Royals, Twins, Tigers, and Angels. Red Sox, White Sox, and A's are all rebuilding. With that said, there's no way a person as clued into the game and has been for 40-plus years like Gibby looks at the Tigers and lies to himself to say, Yeah we should buy at the deadline because we can win a WS!!! Btw, there's no point in getting to the playoffs if you can't win a WS. What good would getting to the playoffs and getting swept out of the 1st round do??? Answer: Nothing. We'd still lose Flaherty to FA for nothing. Skubal would be one year closer to leaving when he's a FA. And we'd still lack any potent offensive weapons with zero chance getting any in the draft without a top 10 selection. Bottom line: We don't have a contender! Thus, we need more talent in our organization till we have enough to become contenders. Anyone who's played the game can obviously see that!

Spend 25-30 mil on two "B" grade hitters and the Tigers are probably in the playoffs and that's not exactly going all in and screwing your future. Btw 25 mil spent is still right at or below league average for the payroll. Most nights all they gotta do is score 3 or 4 runs because the pitching staff is dominant but they can't really score a measly 3 runs consistently...
