This seriously is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen lol I didn’t even know people were printing guitars. The resin adds such a cool personal flare, love it! Amazing job documenting the process and the prize!
just found you via Reddit. Looking forward to making this! I've done a bunch of builds, and other stuff. The 3d hobby is 100% new to me though, so after I finish my son's cosplay, I'll probably go nuts on guitar stuff.
OK, my obsession with tinkering on my guitars has me really considering buying a 3D printer after watching this video. 😂 You can also put an EMG T-set into a Tele. I put one in mine. That's also a solderless setup only the pickups are active. The only drawback is that you have to mount a 9V battery under the control panel and occasionally have to take off the control panel to change the battery. Of course, you could also design and print a body with the cutout for a 9V battery box on the back of the guitar like most guitars with active pickups have.
The Telecaster is my favourite solid body guitar and I really enjoyed watching this build, I think making use of the AMS system by applying xhamfers or filets to the join lines and colouring those joints with a filament close to the resin colour or an alternative accent colour would add to the aesthetics.
I was actually just considering the time and cost a couple days ago when I realized the length of time and material cost was still impractical for this to have any commercial impact on the cost and technology of guitar manufacturing any time soon. *I conceived my own construction parameters with hopes to return to my studies in Fusion360 soon, and that's when the echoes of what you and others have said made their way back to my ears; the time alone isn't even 1 guitar body a day.* I've seen some people with more industrious printers who can print an entire guitar body at once and it's done in roughly 24 to 30 hours, and thus the concept of plastic guitars in themselves for a commercial product still reverts to injection molding for now. I'm an electronics engineer and inventor and in that, I realize I have a more realistic path in pursuing the creation of my own manufacturing technology in itself as opposed to trying to adopt current printing technology into that which I hope for it to be.
@@the3dprintzone I thought it would fit on my ender 3 but it's a no go 😆 The main body is off by 1 inch so I am going to try printing the body standing up tilted back on a 45 degree angle
big thumbs up for your project! The sound is clean and the guitar looks stunning with that epoxy job. If you ever make Alexi Laiho style guitar i'd definitly print that
@@the3dprintzone yeah! Looking toward your next project!! If you wanna do Alexi Laiho guitar, its an asymetric V , just like the Jackson from Randy Rhoads, might be a bit harder to design tho
@@guesswhosback679 just looked at some photos online. Looks fairly simple to design, the asymmetric aspect is not too much of a challenge. Ill add it to the long list of guitar designs I want to do. Just wish I had more time to work on them haha
I just purchased a A1 mini, do you think it would be able to be split down more to fit on the smaller build plate? I know I could cut it down further, just worried about the stability of the core block.
Congrats on the A1 mini! You definitely could split the files into smaller section, but as you mentioned it could impact the strength of the center core. You will need some method for strengthening the joints between the parts to ensure it doesn't flex.
@ the dovetail cut plus some more rods will probably do it. I mainly got the printer for miniatures vehicles and terrain. Only dawned on me that i can print guitars so all the spare parts I’ve built over the years modding my guitars.
Hello! I’ve really enjoyed your videos lately! This was great to see as I am trying to do a similar guitar project. But for the body core where you did 6 walls and 40 infill, do you feel like it could be stronger? Is there a lot of flex or tuning stability?
Thanks for the comment! With 6 walls and 40% infill, the core came out very strong. You could of course increase to an even high wall count and higher infill if you want even more strength, but I don’t think it’s necessary.
So I was thinking about geting into 3d printing to start a business but didn’t know what I wanted to print if I got into this how would I go about getting programs to print this stuff and what all do I need I’m not good with computers but willing to learn and would you maybe be interested in in working togsther if I give you some body designs
It would be great if you could list the dimensions of each piece. My print bed is only 200mm X 200mm and I don't think some of these will fit. I don't want to pay for the files only to find that I can't use them.
Thanks for the comment. The parts can fit on a 256mm x 256mm bed. The Core, Outer 1, and Outer 2 parts will be too large for a 200mm x 200mm bed. That being said here are few options you could try to make them work with your printer.... 1.Tilt the parts partially vertically upwards. This option will require more support material, but may allow the parts to fit the bed..... 2. Split the parts into smaller sections. This option may cause issues if you split the center core of the body (as this part holds the string tension between the bridge and neck). Hopefully that helps!

Thank you so much for the comment! Decided it would be cool to make something functional. Agreed, I think resin is a great pairing with 3D prints 😎
I've Printed 6 of them so far, each one vastly different than the others.

Nice idea! Yea, I’ve thought about creating accent colors using the AMS. Might try that for a future print/design. Thanks for the comment!

cool work. Only the strings are not well-centered. The high E is too close to the edge of the neck, while the low E is way too far.

Have you tried printing one in PETG or ABS?
I haven’t, but I don’t see why that wouldn’t work
Doesn’t the neck creep over time?
Between the higher infill percentage, additional wall layers, and neck plate the neck stays fairly firm to the body.
What bridge did you use?
The bridge I used in the video is no longer available. I have updated the Core model to work with this bridge: amzn.to/3TWnJTP (affiliate link)

@@the3dprintzone I thought about splitting the core and adding carbon fiber tubes, but I may see if the tilt works first.
TONE WOOD!
How many walls did you use for the core?
The core is printed with 6 walls, at 40% infill. You could increase either of those settings if you want, but it came out nice and rigid

PLA, 0.4mm, 35ish hours total

The pickup sound out of phase.
Yep, they sure do. I think he needs to reverse the wires on one pickup which should be easy given the no-solder setup he chose.
if this thing turns out to be cool ... you know what ? guitar music industries is very very questionable
So where's the version setup for a Floyd Rose Tremolo ?
