I have a small incident regarding drinking in Taiwan. I had spent around 14 days in Taichung but due to a early flight out on my last day, I had to find a place in taipei in order to catch my flight. Upon checking in to thos hotel the person at the front desk offered me a beer. It caught my by surprise. I did decline as I do not drink and he apologized so much. I often then I should have just taken it up and left the unopened can in my room to help him save face.

I am Scottish but born in Taiwan. The whole society here won't change for me, I have to change for the Scottish society. In another word, we all need to integrate to where you/we live. Luckily, we live in democratic countries where we can enjoy freedom without any fears.
I agree with your first point. I'm a Singaporean Chinese and while I wouldn't consider my Chinese good, apparently I've been told it's definitely good enough to get by for day to day living, and that is important even as a tourist in Taiwan. To be clear, this means basic conversational Mandarin is quite the essential social skill. This is mostly from my interactions with Taiwanese in Taipei.
Not sure if you ever look at your comments Allan but could you do videos on the feeling of different cities? I know you love Taichung but as someone interested in Taiwan I'd love to hear you and your friends talk about what they think of other cities whether it's just visiting or living there. Like Taipei, Taitung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, etc. Best!
As the 3rd one, Never forget that there are many 台灣人 who perhaps have traveled and experienced in more countries then those foreigners had done before. We keep being polite not because we know nothing. It’s all because that Taiwanese respects.
I agree with you Allan, a foreigner stay in other country long time is not easy learn other country language, but I watch your other videos, I found out you can speak some good mandarin, you have really work hard. If other people who stay in other country learn their language is same as you. 2nd point you say every country culture is different, some languages , action maybe cause other people look weird. Actually, I think its good that you speak ONLY in English in your channel, since its a pretty much English teaching based channel, especially sometimes you note the vocabulary on the top corners. This is very useful for learning English while you talk slowly and clearly for the beginners to catchup with what your saying.

I was about to ask you how did you come up with these top 3 points, and then you said ”it is your opinion”. I guess that’s why I think these 3 points were like opinions from a foreigner who lives in Taiwan for a long time, but not really top 3 things that would annoy Taiwanese people.
I think most most Taiwanese are annoyed to be regarded as Chinese by foreigners and many foreigners call China mainland or mainland China instead of China which makes many Taiwanese feel really frustrated. The roc regime was defeated in China and fled to Taiwan in exile in 1949 but these people and their descendants only occupy 12% of the population in Taiwan, although they control nearly almost all the media and political systems in Taiwan. Today's ddp government is only its accomplice and successor because they tell Taiwanese if the don't keep roc regime, China will invade.
I do hope foreigners who come to Taiwan can learn Chinese better and alsoTaiwan's history and culture, which will earn more respect from Taiwanese if he or she stays long here. This shows they love Taiwan, not just money. I see several foreign youtubers speak beautiful Chinese with perfect tones and expressions. I'm not saying everyone can do that. I'm just saying it is possible. So go for it!

Taiwanese in general is quiet open to critic from foreigners compare with Japanese or Korean, as long as the critic is positive ,Taiwan should accept and turn it into government policy. There are more and more foreigners who live in Taiwan for 5,10 ,20 year or above, some own Taiwan citizenship, Taiwan should move toward global society and let more foreign culture melt into Taiwan to enrich local culture and bring economy prosperity.

對我來說不管是台灣人還是外國人，住在這邊有碰到什麼問題，不滿的、不方便的、不習慣的其實都能講能抱怨
只要不違反我們國家的民主核心價值，表達不滿其實是我們作為人類被賦予的權利之一...
如果真有那麼多台灣人如lifeintaiwan說的一樣不願意聽到批評聲的話，我覺得是我們該檢討的
不然就跟中國一模一樣了，只要注意批評時不要強求別人認同就好

第3點其實應該通用於大多數國家，畢竟自家哪不好自己知道就算了，被人宣傳出去總覺得很不舒服啊

住在台灣很久卻不會說中文，這也表示台灣的確夠多元，有足夠的同溫層可以讓他不必說中文也活的好好的，很多亞洲人，尤其是年長者，在美國生活幾十年，他們也不會說英文，也是可以活的好好的。關於這點我個人不會覺得奇怪，倒是住很久了，對台灣批評的一無是處，這種人我也很反感，但是這種人在全世界都有，所以也就不足為奇。
相反的，長期生活在台灣的新住民對於當地華人社會最不能接受的三點：
1- 只要長得不像華人，就算有歸化國籍，永遠不會被華人社會接納當成自己人。
哪怕語言能力，生活方式，價值觀與華人完全相同，在這些人的眼裡，永遠只能是個外國人!
2- 大多數台灣的華人認為，其它族群不可能會講中文，就算在台灣出生和長大還是會被問: "你為什麼會講中文?"，"為什麼中文那麼好?“
3- 當地華人喜歡叫別人“老外"，不管是白種人，黑人，印度人，中東人 等等，在他們的眼裡完全沒有區別，全都是“老外"。他們根本沒有意識到這種稱呼會傷害到別人。只要不是東亞人的長相，都會被認為是美國人，並且貼上去各種刻板印象 (母語為英文，信耶穌，性很開放，愛喝酒，職業為英文老師 。。。)
需要提醒大家，台灣本來是一個移民社會，無論任何人的祖先 (除了原住民外) 都是外來者。
台灣是個很棒的地方，大家需要好珍惜，保護和共存，因為每個人都是平等，且成長過程有所有不同，所以更應該互相尊重。

喔~這三件事...還蠻另類的耶~我第一次聽到~哈~
1.來了十年還不會講中文...不能說是惹惱啦~而是〝不解〞你怎麼還不會說中文~
2.戶外喝酒...也不至於惹惱啦~如果保持安靜怎麼惹惱? 重點就是你吵到別人啦~
3.批評台灣...這個要看狀況~比如說你嫌棄薪水低，當然就會說那你幹嘛還留在這~這是很正常的反應阿~所以不能一概而論~什麼才是真正惹惱台灣人的事? 除了說台灣人是中國人外，就是你在台灣犯罪或者欺負台灣人，這絕對會上新聞阿~很大條!!!
怎麼樣算是在欺負台灣？
撇開老共外的老外.最有名惹惱台灣的國際事件第一名是韓國跆拳道事件~第二名是菲律賓射殺台灣漁船事件~類似這種真正大條的才會惹惱台灣人阿~會記&講一輩子...
外國人最惹惱我的只有一件事 就是長得比我帥 (目前還沒發現比我醜的外國人 包含菲律賓 印尼等..)
SSAQ QQAW 其實每個人對於美醜的見解都不同⋯⋯無需貶低自己，對我來説，有內在美，自信心和懂得欣賞自己的人最帥~
我的確也不喜歡明明自己選擇居住在這個國家，卻不願意學習和融入這個國家的文化，然後一昧地抱怨這個國家哪裡哪裡不好。
每個國家都有好與不好的地方，每個人的習慣也都不一樣，既然不喜歡也不用特別強求非得待在台灣不可呀。
不習慣國外的生活我都是可以理解的，畢竟大部分人還是會覺得自己國家最舒適，如果不喜歡台灣想離開去其他地方，我也覺得這樣很好啊，找到適合自己的才最重要。
鄰居有一個白人，不確定哪一國，很喜歡在別人家的花盆偷尿尿，被抓到好幾次後聽說跑去比較遠的公園尿(非要在公開場合尿)，我很想知道這是哪一國才會有的文化，而且他來台超過10年了，還真的不會說中文，和他老婆都用英文對話
不是國的問題是(個)人的問題
I do hope foreigners who come to Taiwan can learn Chinese better and alsoTaiwan's history and culture, which will earn more respect from Taiwanese if he or she stays long here. This shows they love Taiwan, not just money.
I see several foreign youtubers speak beautiful Chinese with perfect tones and expressions. I'm not saying everyone can do that. I'm just saying it is possible. So go for it!

@@angrydinosaur8plus9 我朋友她老公駐台就這樣，公司配給高級公寓，大廳有外語服務，樓下就有純日語餐廳，上下班有專車接送，不准考機車駕照，不准買腳踏車。應該還有其他的，聊天沒聊到。以致於駐台多年哪裡都沒去過，台灣什麼都不知道
@@qingxianz 我有駐日朋友講過不准自己開車，但我頭次聽到連脚踏車都不行欸好嚴格。不給騎到山區玩就很容易錯過台灣的很多美景欸
小時候有些討厭外國人的只有兩件事，一是傳教士教導人不要拜神像，這有些干涉人的宗教自由，第二是喝醉酒就對女性性騷擾，而且自以為白人至上，但清醒後又變的很正常，。

通常可以選擇離開台灣到更理想的國度ＯＲ做點什麼事慢慢改善現在的情況．．．
長期處於幸福自由民主的國家，會開始疲乏身邊的幸福指數，
但是，一旦跟其他國家相比，就會發現台灣真的十分友善於所有外國人，生活也不至於太緊張 困頓。

對我來說，不會說中文和酒醉喧鬧還好，會說中文只是讓我對這個外國人多點印象，而不是茫茫大海中的某個外國人，酒醉喧鬧其實台灣人也不少，我家門前有個社區公園，還蠻常三更半夜就有台灣人喝酒吵架打架，至於總是抱怨台灣的負面生活，這的確有點不好，沒人喜歡聽人抱怨，台灣不好的部分可以討論，但不要動不動就批評或嫌棄，那會讓人很不想要交這個朋友~
這三點都還不會惹惱我，不過如果艾倫在海灘上穿比基尼賣奶昔......這應該會比較嚴重~

Taiwanese in general is quiet open to critic from foreigners compare with Japanese or Korean, as long as the critic is positive ,Taiwan should accept and turn it into government policy. There are more and more foreigners who live in Taiwan for 5,10 ,20 year or above, some own Taiwan citizenship, Taiwan should move toward global society and let more foreign culture melt into Taiwan to enrich local culture and bring economy prosperity.
不願意學講國語，我覺得還好，那是他的自由。
不願意學講台語的台灣人也很多，那也是他的自由，他喜歡就好。
台灣人當初被強迫不能說母語，現在北京話變成宰制的語言，再說讓台灣人選擇不說台語，真是令人作嘔
It might not be annoyed, but more like confused and frustrated Taiwanese will feel when dealing with foreigners joking ironically.
喝酒那點把台灣人講太好了，台灣明明就一堆造成社會負面影響的酒空，因為酒醉造成的社會事件一堆，光新聞報的就不少了，新聞沒報的更多，酒駕、打群架、家暴、騷擾路人店家、破壞物品、車道上遊蕩睡覺等等的講都還沒講完。
不管哪個國家的人，只要在不影響別人的情況下喝酒，管你要不要酗酒，都不會有人說什麼，反倒是那些喝酒會造成社會負擔的，到哪都是個大家公認的敗類！
其實台灣人很能接受批評的，只要不因此輕視台灣人就好
