Definitely check out the LightPix Labs M20 for Sony. It's a small $150 flash that: 1) Isn't much bigger than the Godox Lux Junior. It's tiny! 2) The trigger lasts a LONG time and is rechargeable. 3) If you use Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries like I do, you can keep the batteries in the flash and just recharge the flash and trigger with a single cable. 4) It has TTL for Sony. Off-camera tiny flash with TTL and leaf shutter is amazing. I feel like a future RX1 R III + that flash is an endgame travel setup.
how sick would it be if sony just refreshed the camera, kept the lens, kept the sensor, but crammed in some better AF and usb c charging. I know it won't happen but a person can dream.
@@brennanlentz2452Until more manufacturers make/update fixed lens full frame compacts Sony only competes with Leica Q, which actually makes the Sony cheaper in comparison.
I got the RX1r II this week, used in mint condition. Coming from the a7r V it almost feels like shooting analog, it renders beautiful images with that soft color contrast but sharp edges. The feel of the build is amazing and luckily I have quite small hands. Getting used to slowing down and not relying on the ai autofocus! The position of the pop-up EVF is so much better than on the a7r and a7c.
I use the A7RV too. How does this camera work alongside it when you’re shooting them together? Does the Zeiss glass make the images look noticeably different when you view the set as a whole?
@@thomhayesimaging I haven't really shot them side by side, a few shots with the a7c II which seems fine. I haven't been that upset with the battery, however the highlights blows out a lot and the auto focus is quite horrible. But maybe I need to adjust and figure out the settings.
It's a fabulous camera, it really is. Still have mine today, use it a lot, bought it 8 years ago. And don't listen to all those 'prisoners of planned obsolesence', it is a powerhouse of a camera. And he is right in the video: flash sync at all shutter speeds is a brilliant facility, but, the Sonnar lens is epic, 42.4 megapixels (MORE than enough), truly compact, battery life - yeah not great, but small and easy to carry around. The tech is more than adequate: it was way ahead of its time in 2015/16. It even has a variable low pass filter!
I don’t like the fact that you can’t transfer the pic to my smartphone via wi-fi on the camera to friends through text . Thế wi-fi is non existent on camera
I would buy it for sure. Just the way how you can tuck away the EVF is such an incredible feature, for the times that you want to use it as a easy point and shoot.
Exactly. I bought the RX1RII in December 2015 and although one was basically paying £3000 for one of the best 35mm f2 lenses in the world with a free camera attached to it, it was that “free” camera that spoilt the whole deal. Clunky autofocus and manual focus was a non starter. Even with six batteries in my pocket I’d still be worrying at the end of the day and the Sony menus back then were awful. Now have an a7CR with that small Zeiss 35 f2.8 and the possibility of attaching a myriad of autofocus and manual lenses makes it THE camera to carry around all the time. Oh, and no leaf shutter isn’t missed as I rarely use flash for portraits outside, anyway there’s always the iPhone for that 😂
I would love to have this camera but the price for the fact that it's no longer supported and older is just impossible. But I love the look of that lens and the colors
Awesome stuff Magic..the short and practical answer to the question is it worth it in 2024?..in my opinion is no..the main reason for me is the price point!..that fact that this camera is still over $3K US is crazy!..and yes its more than capable of course..but that price point I can't get over..the tech is older and AF, processor, 42 megapixel is a nice sweet spot..etc but for that amount you might as well get the newer bodies in terms of everything tech wise and great overall camera which is like the A7R5...now if it was ever on sale or Sony decides to drop the price by even half..than only maybe it would be worth it..hahaha me personally I hope they do bring this camera back to get into the "X100 market"..
I would love to see a new version of this camera. I don’t know when they ended the production but the oldest ones are from 2016. It was just presented in 2015, but because of a construction issue, customers have to wait till 2016. The thing is, I want to have new one with this old sensor. So they could leave everything line it was, but just updating it with the new co-processor for the better AI and some better video specs. But the rest, leave it like it is/was.
Have the Sony RX1RII and it is amazing for everyday photography and street photography I like it for the small body and images that can come out of it. It has its downsides though. Think with a Sony A7C and the Sony 35MM F2.8 Zeiss lens you will get really close results with older lens that optically is about the same as the one that is attached to the RX1 camera's. wont have a leaf shutter though. The newer A7CII and A7CR seems to have replaced the RX line of camera's. Dont really see Sony making a new RX1 at this point. mainly because the F2 lens on the RX1RII is made by Zeiss and now Sony is making their own lenses. All the lenses that did not end up being on a Sony RX1RII have probably been used on Zeiss ZX1 camera's which is a camera made by Zeiss them selves with the F2 lens on the body just like the RX1RII used to have. 🙃
Just imagine, this camera, but with a modern processor, built in ND, weather sealing, dual card slots and a decent evf. Given the Fuji/leica success, I can’t believe Sony aren’t already on the case?
I think they’re leaning into the A7CII and CR and their newish pancake G lenses. I don’t think they’re taking Leica and Fuji shooters as they’re pretty brand loyal. I shoot Sony if I’m doing any work, but for personal stuff I have a Q2 I love, but I would be tempted by a new ultra compact full frame Sony.
@@k0pper it sounds petty, but the flip out screen on the a7cr is an instant deal breaker for me. I want a compact camera, a subtle one. To shoot from the hip with the a7cr means making it twice as wide, and also just clumsy and weird. A flip up screen is an absolute must for a compact camera like this. It’s not a small thing, it really changes things, a flip out screen fundamentally changes the way this camera can be used. Shooting from the hip for subtle street, or documentary weddings is invaluable. As it stands, the q3, rx1rii and x100 series are the only options, and the Sony and Leica are the only full frame options, and the Sony is the only one that coooould be affordable. The only reason it’s so expensive is because it’s so sought after, because the Leica is the only competition. I did consider the A7Cii for a bit, but honestly, if Sony decide not to go through with this, then Fuji has it in the bag: flip up screen, and built in ND outdoes the pros of the A7Cii, in my opinion anyway. It’s so tricky!

It also needs to be lower in price. This camera 9 years later is still being sold new for $3300 which is not worth it (as much as I love the camera).

That's awesome you grabbed the camera! I'm curious, how much did it cost and where did you purchase it?

Magic, how about A7CR and Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8? No need for RX1R III?
