"Starship Trooper" was a thing before "Starship Troopers" film ??
The film was a reaction to the book, which was very influential. I think Sarah just saw the title.
It was referencing Stormtroopers from Star Wars

TBH I do think this one item tainted me quite a bit - though boy was I ever up for that back then!

The thoughts as such were not evil (I guess, though definitely sinful), but of course they came from an evil source, and they can easily be framed today (with the benefit of hindsight) as another part of the effort preparing us for the idea of aliens as benign saviours (see new book by Daniel O'Connor on the theme - a serious warning to us all).
Vallee and Hynek were both referred to - directly or indirectly - in "Close Encounters", which the song makes reference to, and was still very fresh at that time. Star Wars too. The conclusion from Project Blue Book that Vallee and Hynek headed as scientists was that alien sightings were in a continuum with supranatural encounters with gods and fairies and sprites and so on of old, and so basically dem*nic ... and the connection with (and encouragement towards) uncontrolled lust (and deviating from the path) is clear enough from the song, which includes a large number of actually very telling lyrics and cross-references, not least to "Starship Troopers" as such, which leads rather directly to fascism.
So if you ever want to ask for forgiveness (I've already done it), it's not Hot Gossip that merit it - they encouraged in us EXACTLY the feelings they were intended to in the big worldly plan.

I took a risk coming back to the above video (no pun intended fortunately), and on the whole I think it now looks shoddy and obvious and not very erotic.
But at the time, we did not think that way AT ALL, did we?
I wanted to return because the Holy Spirit has freed me of nostalgia and regret, and shown me mercy and offered discernment, but I did want to be sure that the lyrics were really as obviously "distracting" as they seem(ed) to be.
Of course they are, so this was an obvious and unsophisticated spiritual attack based on the allure of lust, as jus the first of the four layers of evil (below that are lies and chaos, before we get to what everyone thinks of as overtly evil).
Now we have this kind of thing routinely in assocation with Halloween, again treated - as Kenny would have seen the above - as a bit of good dirty fun, a naughty bit, everybody does it, and so on.
Arlene Phillips admits that the above really achieved success when Mary Whitehouse condemned it because it could be seen as early as 18:30-19:00.
Objectively, she was right, but I mostly joined those who ridiculed her at the time.
Narrow-minded and prudish (and worse) I thought, but she said - God bless her - that the floodgates would be opened.
And they were.
Getting into it is easier than getting back from it ... though with the Holy Spirit, it can be done, as there are no impossible things with Him.

Should be:
"Flash Gordon's left me, he's gone to Mars, And evil Darth Vader has me banished to the stars"
as Flash Gordon is from our own solar system but Darth Vader is an alien.
