True that. The "no buttons" interior (plus the still quite buggy infotainment software) were the reasons I left GTI land after owing a Mk5, 6 and 7 one. The Mk8 might be faster and better in many mechanical aspects, but if the stuff you interact with every day (interior quality, controls) are annoying, it can be a real deal breaker. I was expecting Paul to start with: 'This one is for the geeks' :-) Another very interesting comparison video, much appreciated. Many upgrades for the Mk8, but it's a pity that VW dropped the indirect manifold injection, which was standard on Mk7 GTI (and Rs) over here on the east side of the Atlantic. That carbon build up on direct injection-only engines can be pretty bad after very limited mileage. In the future I am hoping to see a 3rd video in this series called Mk8 GTI vs MK8 GTI Clubsport. As with Mk7 Clubsport models, it has the engine from the R model, just slightly de-tuned from 320 to 300HP. Episode 4 can be MK8 GTI Clubsport vs Mk8 GTI Clubsport Edition 45 ;-)
Good evening I would need your expertise and your knowledge to help me if possible I installed the threaded combination on my golf mk7 a lot of strange noise at the level of the shock absorber cups, I had to change them twice as well as the connection bar ball joints, the suspension ball joints the stabilizer bar rods rulers and link arms so the front axle is brand new I even added a strut bar the car hits when I drive on a slightly degraded road, when I climb on a 2 cm sidewalk when I steer at this stage I spent a lot of money and the worst part is that the noise continues please if you have any idea tell me which one it seems to me that there must be a part missing between the cup and the shock absorber to perhaps limit the noise thanks in advance

Mk7 gli owner here. Wow this is alottt more different then i expected. Theres a certain beauty about late model mk7s and mk7.5s being that everything on the car has been around a while and proven. With all the different mechanics of the mk8 i personally would not buy it for a few years or a refresh as you dont know how much stuff is gonna be faulty and need an update/redesighn. Thats the only thing that sold me on the gli is that its mechanically the same as a mk7 gti Pp which has been around along time and there have been multiple parts that have undergone updates-ie water pump. Early model cars almost alwaysss have more problems then you want regardless of what brand/vehicle. But it sounds like the mk8 would be alottt more fun to drive!!! Edit: asp bery important in that being this new 2 things are going too happen 1good, 1bad: bad is that apart from things that are the same as the mk8 the new mechanical stuff is gonna have a much higher price tage too fix/ replace aswell as possibly some aftermarket hiccups figuring out what can fit the car. #2 a very good thing!!! A common theme is that parts for older generation cars get cheaper!!!! Thats a very good thing if you hate spending money but love modifying your car; oh and also when your car breaks of course..that too😅😂
In depth request for mk7.5 vs mk8 please? I have noticed some driveline/powertrain configuration differences in my mk7.5 dsg rabbit when compared to an early mk7 that make me wonder if the mk7.5 was the test tube baby for some of the mk8 changes.
I'm still in a love-hate relationship with the new headlights on the MK8.. On other news.. I had the same thought as you but reversed, regarding the turbo. I think it's essentially the same diameter, but the longer shaft on the MK8 gives more velocity for the exhaust gas to spin up the spool and create more suction on the fresh air side. But I'm pretty sure there will be engineers explaining this in other comments. Thanks for the cool vid!

Not realizing that the original GTI is actually the grandfather of the civic SI/type R or pretty much any modern sport compact. The fact that Honda had to make Si as a middle child option before the fk8 gen means that the GTI forced Honda to catch up. @@WitchYuki22 I'm not talking about previous versions. The Mk1 Golf GTi was a groundbreaking vehicle, although the Talbot Sunbeam Ti was a better car only 2 years later. and the Sunbeam Lotus another year after was the ultimate hot hatch with 150bhp, blowing the Golf into the weeds. In the same year 1976, Renault 5 made an 'Alpine' which was just as fast and handles better, so not sure the Golf could be the 'godfather' of the hot hatch thing. The Lancia Beta HPE from 1975 a year before the Golf, was a hatchback, and had a 2 litre twin cam, much more powerful than the Golf. The Alfasud Sprint was also released in 1976. There is an argument for the 1974 Simca 1100 Ti being the first hot hatch, but either way, the Golf wasn't first.

It wasn't the first hot hatch, and it wasn't the best, as I have proved. Every newer version of the Golf, has been outclassed by other brands and models. The Civic (seeing as you want me to talk about Honda), 4th generation had a fantastic SiR in 1989 which was much better than the Mk2 Golf as the Golf had been around since 1983 and was well behind the brand new Civic. Lets not even talk about the Mk3 Golf in 1991, as it was a proper pudding, an absolute turkey. The Civic has been ahead of the Golf ever since.

The head unit and dash / no buttons are still a no go for me. Think ima just buy a 7.5 true and tested and maybe pick up a 8.5 years from now lol when they add “buttons” back from the soon to be negative feed back
I am in A class AMG land for now, let's see what the next Golf model or refresh will bring.
Hey. Can you confirm that new HPFP on the MK8 operates at 350 bar? Cause that's a lot. It's more like 1500 psi higher than an upgraded HPA HPFP for a MK7 car.
The mk8 officially released today in South Africa
Someone who's an engineer here and definitely agree with your statement on the turbo charger either being larger on the mk8 or they just wanted a tiny bit less lag 👌
I gotta come up for air. A lotta info here, but all good to know and appreciate. You can rest now.
Still a huge and more fan of the Golf mk7 & mk7.5.
Overall material quailty feels better. They look better and has the Golf characteristics.
Main problem for me is that newer cars are made worse than before and arent made to last, I see that the mk7.5 has some reduced cost with inusulation and have squeaky interior which mk7 doesn't have... found it it depends on models, market & factory.
Currently owning a mk7.5 and a mk7, 7 is my favourite
Thank you for this vid. This a great vid.
For someone that is not familiar with the Golf series. MK8 looks more modern and stylish inside and out....
I think I need to rewatch and take notes.
Anyone know what wheels are on the mk7.5? They look sweet
Look like Pretoria’s
@@LSD04 thanks man
Pretoria's, 19 inch.
I was expecting Paul to start with: 'This one is for the geeks' :-)
Another very interesting comparison video, much appreciated.
I love your videos! 💯
Another solid vid. You forgot to mention the cool new under aero, visible in the Savagegeese(sp?) vid. What about the knuckles? CSS? Is that where the additional 1deg of camber is from?
GTI has Different knuckles the Clubsport MK8 GTI gets the same Knuckles as the MK8 R so this will be a retrofit for GTI owners fo shooo
I had a 2020 jetta with the electronic ebrake and found myself forgetting to engage it. I was too used to the manual handbrake.
Manual is always better than electronics..
It engages itself.
Look at 5:07, another reason why this interior is a bummer! look at all those finger prints!!!
Dirty fingers..........
Good to know. I figure my port injection rail will be transferable. Another question is will the mk7 pm3 controller be transferable and will I need to swap lpfp seeing is has the extra fuel.
Spend all the money to save 6lbs. I'll just go on a diet. 😂
Thats a very good thing if you hate spending money but love modifying your car; oh and also when your car breaks of course..that too😅😂
The edit and humour is getting better all the time ..I spend as much time laughing as I do taking in the info ..
In depth request for mk7.5 vs mk8 please? I have noticed some driveline/powertrain configuration differences in my mk7.5 dsg rabbit when compared to an early mk7 that make me wonder if the mk7.5 was the test tube baby for some of the mk8 changes.
is it true that there is a lag in the torque delivery on the mk8 that was absent in the mk7?
1:52 I'm telling Megan you touched it.
Thanks Paul for the video. Waiting for that MK8 Golf R Brake swap video lol.
So basically they almost just made the Clubsport/R the new normal GTI
I went from my mk7.5 to the mk8 and I love it
Are the mk8 front callipers the same as performance pack mk7 just without the GTI name plate?
What's the timeline on when we can expect MK8s in the US?
All about my car i see it here this channel is awesome 😎
How much power can the MQB a3 handle on Is38 FBO stock internals?? power limits etc..is 380/400whp possible?
That engine cover 😬
its big huh?
It's fugly... the whole car is fugly😬💔
That is a safety feature as it's pliable whereas the previous one was solid plastic.
Love the videos! Any recommendation for the front license plate mount?
Will non performance package brakes from a mk7 fit in the mk8 ?
MK8 OE spring kit for a MK7? How much would it lower 🤔
Cool video great idea.... looking forward to more Paul.... how's that scirocco vr6?... ready to do a 4 motion swap? And turbo?
Awesome stuff!
Does the mk8 VW rear badge fit on a mk7? I’d like to stick the new VW logo on the boot handle of my car. Thanks for all your videos!!
Love this Paul
But cool of VW to allow you to have access to the car.
Paul,
Do you have any video content or anything on diagnosing differentials? Like how to tell if if it is going bad on an audi?
I looked at a Golf 8 Gti, is also has RS3 ignition coils. The MK8 also has no rear resonator.
So sad they discontinued the Scirocco 😭
That was the most beautiful sporty hatchback VW ever done. Still holds up. I don’t understand the lack of sucess of that car.
Dear Paul,
Do we think it is possible swap a Mk7.5 dash and steering wheel into a mk8?
Thanks,
Matt F
This is not possible.
do you know why some mk7 models have single red stipe ih headlights and others have two? Please respond
Great video, the fender audio in the MK7 sounds better the HC in the MK8, just saying.....
So is the Club Sport GTI more aggressive, and more importantly is it lower???
Paul when are we going to see the mk7 turbo upgrade video?
"Not the prettiest girl, but she feels good"
Truer words have never been spoken
😆...... plenty of DUDES have SAID this
Still love my MK7.5 GTI TCR
Do MK8s use the same size wheels and tires as MK7Rs?
Sounds like the mk8 gti is a mk7 clubsport with a new body
Is the exhaust system identical.
No
Is a stage 1 mk7.5 faster than stock mk8
Does the higher fueling numbers mean... E85 tunes on stock fueling might be possible? 😯
Thank you for the in depth comparison. I'll be sticking with my 7.5 and see if the Mk8 design grows on me. More importantly where can we find that cool GTI shirt Megan is wearing?
Mark 7 remarkably reliable car? Also thank you for making this video.
Yup certainly the most reliable in many years.
@@Deutscheautoparts I am interested in the mk8, but I'm worried about reliability. Is there anything from mk7 that might translate to mk8 that I should be worried about?
@@tofubeanz The MK 8 is a far superior car in every respect than the MK 7/7.5.......
Exterior...it grows on me...i like it...
Interior...digital disaster...facelift-material...
awesome video
You had me at Voltron, I hit like 🤓
being a VW/Audi used parts recycler/seller i freak out on these videos involving VAG part numbers!!
Does anyone know if the catback is the same?
I want the interior plastic from the 2022 model in my 2023 model. The black shiny plastic around the shifter doesn't look as good as the flat grey imo.
Nice video DAP! That mk7.5 on Pretoria’s looks super good. Anyone know the suspension on the mk7.5?
He’s on air that car was near the top
Noticed the hood prop instead of gas struts on MK7s. Think it can be retrofitted?
That is a safety feature. You cannot fit the hydraulic strut.
Is it true that the new mk8 gti is the same as the EU mk7.5, and the differences here are between the US versions only ?
I just want them seats in my mk7.
FedEx deliver that turbo to the wrong address. Unfortunately, this situation happens all the time.
I have both and i will soon sell the 7.5…once you have the 8, the old ones looks really old interior and exterior speaking…time change!
Finally someone says the truth
It's taken VW 8 generations of the car to try and match what Honda have been doing with the Type R brand.
And they still haven't quite managed it.
Not realizing that the original GTI is actually the grandfather of the civic SI/type R or pretty much any modern sport compact. The fact that Honda had to make Si as a middle child option before the fk8 gen means that the GTI forced Honda to catch up.
Btw what happened to those 10th gen civic issues like A/C issues, oil dilution and gear grinds (especially for the type R)? Oh wait you Honda fanboys just sweep those issues under the rug because "hOnDa iS ReLiAbLe!" 😂😂
Oh and I'm not a Honda fanboy at all, so your trolling was way off the mark son, never owned a Honda in my life.
My avatar should have given you a clue, it's my current car a BMW OG M2.
I am a serial BMW owner for the past 15 years, and before that had all sorts from Fords, Vauxhalls, Renaults, Saabs, Morris, Hillman, Nissan, and dozens more.
Passed my driving test in 1986.
@DjNikGnashers and is there any of those hot hatches still around these days? That's what I thought lmao
Don't backpeddle now. Your original comment was about VW catching up to Honda in terms of sport compact when in fact, it was the other way around
@@WitchYuki22 I think you meant 'are' any of those hot hatches around these days.
Well the Honda Civic came out in 1972, a LONG time before the Golf, and it's still around.
You misread my 'original comment' maybe because you are a bit thick, and not able to understand basic English ?
The Mk1 Golf isn't around now is it ?
It wasn't the first hot hatch, and it wasn't the best, as I have proved.
Every newer version of the Golf, has been outclassed by other brands and models. The Civic (seeing as you want me to talk about Honda), 4th generation had a fantastic SiR in 1989 which was much better than the Mk2 Golf as the Golf had been around since 1983 and was well behind the brand new Civic. Lets not even talk about the Mk3 Golf in 1991, as it was a proper pudding, an absolute turkey.
The Civic has been ahead of the Golf ever since.
Dang the headlights dont have the red strip in them. A darn shame
You can get it but its an optional extra...US spec cars are always low spec compare to EU
Helllllloooooooo, Megan!
Mentioned Clubsport a lot but are they the Clubsport S parts?
In the Powerart Channel mentions some parts of front suspension are different and makes a big difference driving on track
So glad to hear they carried over the Tophats from the mk7….which means they will be toast every 20k miles
