One day I came across one that looked way different than anyone I’ve ever seen it was an alligator snapper I didn’t know that at the time but at my young age I thought to myself wow looks like a alligator needles to say I let him go that day I tried to feed him and he got my finger I screamed and he let go almost 20yrs later I still have a scar from it lol what a great childhood memory 😂❤️

    Coyote, I have a question... I saw a hole in the snake's mouth at 4:02. I usually see that in like all snakes. Can you explain the function/or why they use that for?
    ~From Haziq Zhafran
    PS. Have a good day and pwetty pwease take care of your thumb. Wait wait... Remember the rule of Thumb. The puns are Real!

    • @CoyotePeterson
      @CoyotePeterson 9 лет назад +24

      Haziq Zhafran That hole attaches to the nasal cavity and allows the snake to breathe...that way when the mouth is closed they are getting enough oxygen...or if they are in water, rat snakes don't swim often, but as you can see....living in the back waters, they probably have to cross bodies of water frequently.

      I have no idea. It might have something to do with breathing while swallowing prey, perhaps the animal in its gullet constricts the airway and it needs another source of air?

    I grew up in Mandeville Louisiana( St. Tammany)which has a one of the more healthy populations of Alligator snapping turtles anywhere. On the tchfuncte river, which flows into lake Pontchartrain. But loggerheads are Amazing creature. We caught so many on trotlines( not a good way to catch 'em,) when we where young lads. You gotta watch yourself walking through that shallow murky water withe debris everywhere. But the loggerheads would get massive, 70 - 100lbs. No joke! ,Great show......

    It makes me really curious and almost a little sad aswell that there are so many people in this comment section blocked off by their Ignorance, Inexperience and clueless Mind Set.
    I understand the thoughtprocess of „how it is possible that Coyote Peterson isnt already dead“ which makes sense because off of all these Wild and sometimes really Dangerous Animals he has catched and had the Opportunity to see but there is „Always“ no 100% Guarantee and Safety around those „Wild“ Animals especially in their Natural Territory and Home!
    Nevertheless there isnt a 100% Safety and Guarantee for pretty much anything in the World. You could climb up a real big Mountain and fall down and die or jump off of a Skateboard and do a reall risky and hard Stunt and injure yourself really bad. Nonetheless what i wanna say is that it is important to respect someone who is a Professional, a Expert or just experienced in what they are doing! Be it a Professional Seadiver, a Math Proffesor and Expert or just an experienced young Man that lived his entire Life besides and around the Water and knows what theyre doing because he is going out there since he was little and didnt „die“ !
    My message to all of you is, To never be close minded about something just because you dont know anything or only a little about it! There is no false or right when coming across these beautiful but Dangerous Animals, you just have to know that it is always a risk you have to take when following your dreams about something. But it is normal that you cannot become a Doctor just by watching Greys Anatomy 😁

    Even in areas where these guys are abundant, it's next to impossible to find them during the day walking creeks. I always end up finding hatchlings and subadults. Only one large female this year by walking and checking log jams and banks. It's really cool to see someone else find and catch one by hand, no trap needed. Big thumbs up!
