Jack Wild was an incredibly talented performer. A triple threat, he could sing, dance and act. Brilliantly. I still enjoy his work, even after all these years and I hope he knows how much his fans still love and miss him.
Gone but he'll never be forgotten.... he's more than welcome in my house every Christmas....." Come in Jack.. consider yourself at home, consider yourself one of the family"....RIP Jack
Jack is so special. I loved Oliver when I was growing up but Jack and the Artful Dodger have always stayed with me. Together with Ron Moody, they were both phenomenal. I’m sad that Jack is no longer around to see all the love and appreciation from fans. Thank you for visiting him and paying your respects 🙏🏻
Loved his version of Artful Dodger no other actor is better than Jack's. After watching this it's making me want to watch Oliver Twist lol. R.I.P Jack and thank you.
Hi Paul, I starred in Oliver in a play at junior school when I was a kid, brilliant film, Jack Wilder was superb as the Artful Dodger in Oliver, died so young, never forgotten. RIP Jack Wilder 💐💐💐💐💐
Tragic that it is only recently that we have learned that at the root of most addictions, lies a mental illness. Jack, George Best, Ossie Clark and many others may well be alive today, had this been understood. Great work, as always, Paul👍. Celebrate the life, never judge or condemn the death.🥀✌️🙏.
“If you don’t know who Jack Wild is…” Oh, my, yes, I know. I was bonkers in love with him for *years*, in fact I may still be, just a little. My heart goes a-flutter any time I find an old Pufnstuf episode (which I watched religiously first time. Y’all call it strange and trippy and drug-fueled, but only in isolation: 1968-69 was just like that). PS. HR Pufnstuf, a human sized puppet dragon, was the title role of the show HR Pufnstuf. Jack Wild didn’t play that; he played the human kid, Jimmy. Thank you for this.
I remember Jack wild from the six bells pub in brentford ,middx, he used to go down there to watch the live band there on a Sunday night, He was in ill health then and would hardly speak, This was in 2000s He never bothered anyone , and I didn't recognise him til I was told who he was! Rip Jack.
Kirk Hogan thank you for sharing. Can you share some specific memories of Jack at the pub? Would he be alone or with someone? Also, what sort of music did the live band play? It would be nice to know what Jack liked. Thank You again for sharing.
Hi he was was with a woman , not sure who she was ,she had dark hair, think her name was Ann,but not 100% sure, The band were called cry wolf a local band to the area that played a little bit of everything, rock type music As I said he hardly spoke and he sat at a table opposite the stage My father was alive then ,he told me who he was, as I didn't recognise him as he looked unwell. He was in there most Sundays when cry wolf played , I played pool in there and met up with my father every Sunday, We're you family ? I remember it must of been late 90s as my father died in 2000, It was a bit of a spit and sawdust type pub a fullers pub,the landlord was mick and Joyce Coonan, Mick died awhile back and the pub has changed hands since Hope this helps
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing. Can you tell us around what year to what year this was, and about some of your sightings of him i.e what he was doing? Would love to hear. Thank You again.
Only down the road myself from Toddington and have been to see his grave twice since 2012. Very hard too find at first as went looking in the old section of the cemetery thinking he would be in there but alas I’d walked straight passed the new section without giving it a second thought. God rest his Soul
I was 7 when Mum took us to see 'Oliver!" at the cinema. I used to hear her humming 'Where is love' quite often. Years later when she didnt have long for this world, she said to me 'Sing Where is Love and I'll be right beside you". This may be well known already, Croft's 'Bugaloos" which did air in Australia was banned in the UK due to the perceived double meaning in the title!
Jack, born the same year as me, 4 weeks after. When my dad remarried, Oliver was the movie he took my step mother to see. A classic film. All the songs were written by Lionel Bart, who became a great friend of The Beatles. My misses remembers Jack from HR Puff and Stuff being 6 years younger than me. That's Paul, nice one.
OMG You found Jack Wild, his Bio is a Very sad Story, i know everything about him..The Bestest Artful Dodger there could ever be..NO ONE can equal him let alone beat him....H.R Puff N Stuff i Loved as well....My Two favourite Films when i was about 5 years old, was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and of Course OLIVER....This was the best version EVER to hit the silver screen, Jack Wild, Mark Lester and Ron Moody Their acting was SUBLIME !!!!! PAUL I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL !!!!!!
I used to work with a guy who iknew Jack as a kid in the 1960s and he told me that he used to regularly play football with him and phil Collins in the park in the mid 1960s. He said he was great fun and he was really pleased ti see him in films and tv a few years later (jack became a star a few years before Collins did, although Collins did dabble in acting as a child himself). Anyway he reckoned Jack decamping to Hollywood at such a young age was probably where things went wrong as Jack started to believe in the hype surrounding him after H R Pufnstuff went into production and it went to his head, and that's where the problems started. Incidentally Pufnstuff was cancelled after just one season as it proved to ne an expensive show to make. It was hoped that if the movie was a success then it would lead to another season but the film only did middling business and the show wasn't commissioned for a second season.
Born to play the the dodger was Jack Wild in Oliver great film with great cast not usually a fan of musical versions but Oliver was in a league of its own for me.
He certainly was the most artful Artful Doger.... Great grass and topiary in this cemetery. Thanks Paul as well for bringing back memories of HR Pufnstuf,
i remember Jack. i thought he was a fantastic actor, as for the way his life was. he was who he was, no one has the right to judge anyone, he was brilliant in Oliver Twist, i watched it at least a dozen times. bless his soul. thanks Paul for another great vidio
I loved the film Oliver! It was the first time I went to the cinema when I was 11 years old. I still love to watch it now. Had no idea he was so young when he passed away, so sad. Once again thank you Paul. RIP Jack
I really loved puffing stuff when i was 9 yrs old so weird tho 😆 but wen your a kid it was funny hehe, 😂 i really loved oliver it was made for him, That wonderful Roll and timeless musical, i always watch it when its on at Christmas 🎄🎁 time religiously.he certainly lived his life to the full ,so why not we only come this way once!🙂 Thank you ever so much paul ya friend Rodders 🤘😎🎸👑
Jack was a brilliant artful dodger Paul.. so sad when they leave us so young..definitely the best version of oliver..nice one again Paul.. sensitive tribute...brilliant hammergazz 👍
I used to know the cinematographer from Oliver, Oswald morris. I cared for his wife for the final 2 years of her life. I always smile when a movie he worked on is mentioned. ( Ozzie passed in 2014 when he was 98. Such a lovely man.) total useless fact, but in the same care home, I also cared for the auntie of Will champion-the drummer in coldplay. I bumped into him and Chris Martin on Xmas day 2001 and had no idea who they were , but the girls I worked with were crying where they couldn’t believe it . Loved that job .
I don't like musicals but I do like Oliver. I met Jack at the Embassy Club in London, not long before he died. The poor guy looked so ill and I felt very sorry for him.
I felt quiet sad watching this, the best Dodger ever. Alcohol still is not counted as the addictive substance it can be, still advertised on the t.v. and magazines etc, it ravages the body and the mind, I was married to an alcoholic, it cost my ex his marriage and his kids, he drank himself to death aged 48. I have seen so many people either die or become very very sick due to alcohol, many of them losing their families along with it, a very sad and lonely life and many not accepting help when they have the chance. How sad that Jack Wilde ended up being like this, such a talented man...May he rest in eternal peace.❤
I loved Jack I had a crush on him when I was very young after seeing him as the artful dodger. So sad how his life just spirald out of control and to die so young and how he did is so sad. I will always remember him as the cheeky chapy .thanks for sharing this story love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙 💚
When I was younger my Dad's firm's Xmas do for the kids was a trip to London to see Oliver! My first time in a cinema and what a great film it was. Jack's brother Arthur also died young and is said to also be buried in Toddington Cemetery
My elder sister had a Massive crush on him and she pinned magazine photos everywhere! HR Puffnstuff was amazing though. I was too young for it first time round though. Thanks Paul, nicely done xx
There will never be another artful Dodger as great as the one Jack Wild portrayed, I remember he was my favourite in the film Oliver, I learnt all the words to his songs and used to annoy all my family by constantly mimicking the artful Dodger. So sad that he was taken so young and with such a devastating illness. Thank You for such an interesting video
Hi Paul. As usual a great video and very respectfully done. Jack Wilde was only six years older than me so I remember him very well. He WAS the one and only Artful Dodger - no one else could compare to his depiction of that character! And I also remember HR Puffanstuff too! I hated that programme! It was awful and a waste of Jack’s great acting talent. It’s sad that he died at such a relatively young age and as a result of a terrible disease brought about by his love of drink and smoking. But then again it was an era when everybody was doing it - famous or not. R.I.P Jack Wilde.
another favorite of mine ,thank you ,the cast of oliver, was superb ,but he was made for his artfull dodger role, very interesting channel, just subscribed to see all the other interesting videos.thanks
I love Jack wild he’s my fave in Oliver the musical movie one of my faves films and love singing along to the songs In the movie, I also love him in the Robin Hood and the prince of theives
Child stars back then were very fortunate to remain on the straight and narrow. For every actor/singer who got through unscathed there were plenty who didn't. Jack Wild's co-star in Oliver, Mark Lester was lucky enough to emerge unscathed. Jack will be best remembered for playing the Artful Dodger, and that's no bad thing. Terry Wogan interviewed Mark Lester and Jack Wild and it's a fascinating interview. Melody is worth a watch, too.
Thanks for this really interesting video though it's getting to the stage where you can, almost, guarantee that many of these Celebrity graves are unattended. This was only 17 years ago and again, it's neglected, I'm afraid to say.
Jack was so talented God Bless Him,still love to watch him,so does my son, after all these years. Its like only yesterday when he first appeard,so that shows how much the impact he had, still has,my grandchildren love to watch him.God bless him fame as for a lot of young actors, and adult Ctors pushes them over the hedge, its too much for them to handle, they are catapulted to fame, and its too much for them. Most famouse stars end up destroying themselves cos they carnt handle it.GOD BLESS THEM.
HR puffnstuff, I remember him as the Artful Dodger and the rest, he was an amazing actor, proper natural, taken way too soon, thank you Paul...rip Jack..always remembered xx
I only knew him from Oliver. Love that film! I did suggest this video earlier this year, thank you for doing it. It’s a shame he died so young, alcohol addiction like any addiction is awful. :( x
He was gorgeous looking when he was younger, proper heartthrob, nobody should just, it's just a shame he ended up the way he did but he will always be loved and remembered with fondness ❤❤
I saw him in the West of Ireland 🇮🇪, circa 1971, during the filming 🎥 of " The Flights of the Doves", an absolutely delightful film that is now largely forgotten. Ron Moody and Stanley Holloway are also in the spellbinding film...Rest in Peace, Jack Wild 🇬🇧🌙🇵🇸🌙🇮🇪
I saw that film a couple of years ago on TV. I found it a bit twee by modern standards but it was still quite entertaining and provided a snapshot of what Ireland looked like in the early 1970s so it was visually very interesting. Jack was asked to dye his hair ginger for the film but he refused so they made him wear a ginger wig. He said he always cringed at how bad that wig looked on him whenever he had to watch the film. Willy Rushton is great value in that film as his beastly English uncle (called Cromwell as a bit of an Irish in-joke) but I have to say Ron Moody's Irish accent was all over the place. Nevertheless it was still fun to watch.
@@trevorbrown6654 Funny, I had a dream the night before last (11/09/2023), where young Jack Wild told me he was wearing a wig. He must really have wanted others to know that hairdo was not an actual part of him.
I only knew Jack from Oliver. It is so sad that Jack became who he did. Children today know The Artful Dodger which is brilliant that Oliver stands up today. I hope he is proud of that and the brilliant role he played. Thank You Paul once again another great video. Also a great quiz question June Colins putting Jack in a stage show.
Omg i had such a crush on him in h r puf n stuf. I never thought of puf n stuf as being weird when i was young but looking back at it now it most definitely is lol. Whoever dreamt up that show must have been on something😂. So sad he died so young and so tragically.
He was born to play the artful dodger , it was an oscar winning performance . and he should have had major parts in the movies throughout his life really , so sad how the industry treated him . Rip jack love Helen
A hreat British actor gone to soon he entertain us for years thanks Paul for entertain us fans always we get you to America 🇺🇸 you are a national treasure for Englnd 🇬🇧 lam a big fan of yours always
I had just turned 8 (5 days before film released) when I went to see Oliver in London's West End. Thank you Jack Wild for your wonderful contributions to the entertainment industry. Keep singing and dancing in your next life wherever you are.
I loved HR puff n stuff even got the dvd R.I.P Jack taken way to soon

Great tribute Paul❤ loved him in Oliver .So sad he was taken too soon ...beautiful headstone .. RIP Jack 💔
One of the greatest film's ever
May the rest in peace 🙏
Very sad bur beautifully presented Paul ❤
I only knew Jack from Oliver. It is so sad that Jack became who he did. Children today know The Artful Dodger which is brilliant that Oliver stands up today. I hope he is proud of that and the brilliant role he played. Thank You Paul once again another great video. Also a great quiz question June Colins putting Jack in a stage show.
Omg i had such a crush on him in h r puf n stuf. I never thought of puf n stuf as being weird when i was young but looking back at it now it most definitely is lol. Whoever dreamt up that show must have been on something😂. So sad he died so young and so tragically.
He was also in Flight of the Doves which is always shown on Irish TV most St Patrick's Day 💖 use to love Hr Puff n Stuff
He was born to play the artful dodger , it was an oscar winning performance . and he should have had major parts in the movies throughout his life really , so sad how the industry treated him . Rip jack love Helen
