Very messy TAS, can be improved by at least 15 seconds
Probably should've rendered at 110 FOV instead of 130 FOV, which is what I play at
I worked on this everyday since I started it, but most of the time it was under an hour each session
It took ~66 hours to make this
My biggest problem with this TAS is its routing. If I had just looked at HL21 instead of trying to be independent, I could've solved so many problems

Improvements:
0:12 throw grenade immediately
0:47 gain speed earlier
0:55 bad, too much slowdown
1:00 might be possible to HL21 it and do an edgebug to slopejump instead of needing a boost.
1:44 probably not optimal
1:59 take more damage from boost because I have extra health at the end. scientist also heals for 25 HP, which is quite a bit and more than enough to finish blast pit
2:30 don't know if this movement through the water is optimal
2:34 might be possible to go a little faster

About ~15 seconds slower than HL21, but that's to be expected since there were some questionable routing decisions as well as there being the bhopcap enabled.

Amazing how rock solid the goldsrc engine is. No glitching into walls. all triggers have to trigger to progress. Makes for a beautiful speedrun even in TAS.
Then there's HL speedrun in 6 minutes which throws your comment out the window

May i ask how can you calculate the amount of hp so that after using granade to "fly" you are left with 1 hp? I've seen this in quadrazid video also.

anyways, i didn't calculate it; it was pure trial and error. it was a really painful process admittedly and it took a few days to get the whole route right. even then it could still be improved (the mistakes i made on that map seem kinda obvious now).
actually the only reason i managed it was because i finally realized i could adjust the angle it was released at and not just the timing of the grenade
well it's not really the only reason. qconread2, another TASing tool which logs the player state per frame, helped a lot with figuring out how much to change the angle i threw the grenade at.
simple, he uses at least 50 codes. its like no fall damage, reduced grenade damage, better jump, fast character...

Nice. Sharp camera movements, increased viewing angle - I missed this in other speedruns

edgebug -- sliding off an edge the same frame we make contact with it. we stay in the air so the game never applies fall damage with the added bonus of our vertical velocity being reset (might not be an accurate explanation).

Im really ignorant in these kinda speed run strats but how does the player not die of Fall Damage after dropping from the elevator hole at the start? Im curious
it was a jumpbug
the simplified explanation: the game doesn't know that we touched the ground because we -ducked and +jumped at the same time and therefore never applied fall damage

When i see you don't even make use of increasing your speed through strafing while using slowmo... That's painful because i hit 255 longjumps on CS 1.6 (way harder than csgo of source) so if i knew how to put TAS tools in my HL game i would probably beat your time. (maybe)

This is cool to watch but the fish eye lens with the increased fov hurts my eyes.

nice one! is there no way to keep the speed from the tram ride part going into the pipe? I remember theres a crate with an angle in it that can launch you in the air there
it's not possible with the bhop cap
max velocity (2000 ups) ducktapping might be possible but it's impractical
hl21 did it but they didn't have the bhop cap

@@albertbrzozowski i'm not making any TASes right now but i think i've narrowed my ideas down to a TAS involving quickgauss or a custom map/short mod TAS (i don't feel like committing to a full mod TAS right now)

What's the point of TAS speedruns? They are scripted? I don't see any challenge in this if you can script any of your moves.
usually the point of a TAS is to showcase/find the optimal route through the game or an area. this TAS kind of does a bad job at that considering some of the mistakes there are.
yes, they are scripted.
most of the challenge comes from knowing what you can and can't do and then trying to implement that into the TAS. half-life is a precise game, which makes it difficult to do a lot of tricks. it's also not easy to translate what comes naturally to us (e.g. aiming and shooting) to a machine. another challenge is trying to keep it entertaining in the end. also staying motivated.

Why throw grenades at 0:55?
you can't object boost through corpses (they're considered solid to the object for whatever reason) so i had to gib the houndeyes with grenades

@@sef2273 object boost is preformed by tapping the grab button and moving in the same direction as the object i think. You then get the same speed as the object.
