- Welcome to another video!
This one's going to be all about one of the most common and annoying houseplant pests; fungus gnats!
There's quite a few things you can do, and some help, but they usually don't fix the problem.
After trying the vast majority of them (including the apple cider vinegar traps, which I forgot to mention in the video) I've come down to 1 method that works the best for the gnat larvae, that's what you want to focus on most, and that's mosquito bits.
It's a beneficial bacteria already present in most soils, that kills and eats larvae.
Thank you all for watching
Tot de volgende keer!
I hung plant zapper lites near my plants for about 2 months. I smiled hearing them zapped! After 2 months, I heard no more zaps, took them down, and no gnats for over a year now! Dont forget to empty the dead ones out of the bottom trays! Good Luck! Rev. J. 😊
Thank you for the tip! Those definitely do the trick, I should get some someday. The fly traps are just inexpensive.
This was so helpful. Thanks so much :)
No problem, I'm glad you found it helpful! :)
thanks for the tip i got those mosquito bits today...
Thanks for sharing. Very informative 🙋🏽♀️
Thank you for watching, I hope it'll help you get rid of them.
Excellent video
Thank you!
I use Thuricide BT by Southern AG liquid and it works! It also doesn't hurt 8 week old newly rooted cuttings. The directions told me 4 tablespoons to one gallon. The adults I just use sticky traps. I do this spring and summer and don't worry too much during fall and winter. This stuff tends to get rid of them in one month.
That's awesome, I'm glad it's working for you too! In my opinion, they're one of the hardest indoor pests to get rid of, so I was very relived to finally find something that works.
I just got the BTI dunks today. I’ve gotten good results using peroxide and yellow sticky traps. However a few remain and the cycle starts all over. I’m going to try the BTI.
I hope it works for you! I'm confident it will though, one of the few things that consistently works. Doesn't get the adults, so those sticky traps will still be useful.
I have to agree these pests are a pain, but then again so are rover beetles. How do you get rid of those?
Unfortunately not by simply adding BTI, as that bacteria doesn't eat the rover beetle larvae. The only way I've been getting rid of them, is by simply sucking them up to prevent more egg laying, and therefor the spread. Thank you for your input!
Yup, it is miracle grow for sure. Throwing the rest of mine out
I'd still use it outside, just so it doesn't go to waste. The gnats shouldn't cause problems there.
use neem cake, works 100 %
I have heard good results, I'll have to try it sometime
did your soil got mold ? I heard it was a common thumb down for neem cake, with its horrid odour
I got mold too@@sailorPinata
