“sixtagonal” 😂 Loved the casual vibe of this video!
i love this type of lens review, with actual footage and racking the focus. a big reason to buy these lens is their feel; and this video nails that.
Regarding Helios lens, wich colour did you choosed for anamorphic flare? Sllver?
I own the Zeiss Contax, awesome lens. Also the 50 1.4 SSC FD
I have the Helios 44-2 og version from the Belomo factory. Mine is very well made and full metal. Looks like you guys got one of the 44M versions which came later and got more refined multicoatings but also a bit cheaper build on the lens body. But as far as optics and aesthetic, they're basically the same lens. Mine isn't anamorfake modded like yours though and came from Kazakhstan. I recently got a Nikon 50mm f2 AI lens that I cleaned out fungus and mildew out of. I got it to add to my growing vintage Nikon lens set (currently had a 24mm f2.8 non AI and a 35mm f2.8 non AI before picking up the 50mm f2 AI) to use for videography and filmmaking. I haven't yet tested it much or compared it to the Helios. But seeing y'all's video makes me want to test my two out. Have you guys used any Olympus Zuiko vintage 50mms? I'm curious about getting one to test it in comparison to the Nikon. Heard a lot of good things for color rendition, sharpness, and bokeh from a few film photography channels. I dunno it might even be a good lens to test against the Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4.
I have the fd 1.4 and the Helios 44m I've used both for photos on my gh5 but really haven't delved into them for video except for a little test video on each. I haven't had a chance to use the others but I like the bokeh on the fd, almost like an oil painting the way it renders bokeh. I like the Helios also but hard to get that bokeh effect on my gh5 I've found
I have a Canon FD 50 mm 1.4 that looks plenty sharp wide open, yours is a bad copy. I'll second the recommendation for the Pentax M 50mm 1.7, but it'd also be interesting to look at the Tomioka-made lenses like the Mamiya-Sekor 55mm 1.4 which is a great lens and can be found at a reasonable price.
Same. It's far from tack sharp at 1.4, but it is usably sharp. I just pulled it out and did some test shots to remind myself and whatever is in the plane of focus is undeniably sharp. It can suffer from noticeable color fringing in high contrast areas, though.
Very happy with the lens, especially for the price I paid for it ($80).
need to clean it
I have all but Nikkor and I maintain Carl Zeiss is winner from far
Yes I have multiple copies of this canon 50mm 1.4. My favorites are actually the Chrome nose and the older FL version. Both are incredibly sharp wide open with beautiful focus falloff
yeah, I also figured Canon FD cannot be that soft.
Good video.
Please check out the K mount XR Rikenon 50mm f2.0 lens, the Japanese "Poor Man's Summicron" some time. That would be interesting!
Does your FD adapter have a correction element or is it a plain adapter
That Cannon is faulty for sure. It shouldn't be that soft wide open. I have the nfd version of that lens and it's sharp, very comparable to my Contax 50mm 1.4, Pentax M 50mm 1.4 and Minolta MD 50mm 1.4...For me the Pentax M 50mm 1.7 is by far the most bang for the buck out there.
Ohh thats so interesting! I've never considered the Pentax. Definitely am considering trying it out. - Yeah that was the best Canon FD 50mm we had out of 3 purchases, tbh most our FD purchases have all been a bit faulty
@@richardtran9186 Pentax M series, 28mm f3.5, 35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.7 and 100mm f2.8 all for under £200 ($250) is a great set for video work. All metal build, relatively sharp from wide, adaptable F mount, readily available and easy to mod. The entire set cost me less then one Contax.
If you need faster glass then you can get the 28mm f2, 35mm f2, 50mm f1.2/f1.4, 85mm f2.
@@richardtran9186 yeah mine SSC shows no blooming or whatever is wrong with yours even at 1.4.
The 50mm New FD 1.4 is a personal favorite lens. You have bad copies of it.
ruclips.net/video/jS4FIPrC8LU/видео.html This is not an Helios 44-2 . The lens is just 44M
HAHAHAHA THE CANON 50
I have that canon fd 50 its WAY shaper wide open than yours..has to be bad copy. and I have two. I actually have all lenses show except nikkor
Contax yashica are the best as it s Carl Zeiss lens… Btw since Zeiss sucks compared to Carl Zeiss
Yes your Canon is clearly faulty, My one is very sharp and I own it from the 80s
