    I'm in the process of setting up my Hue bulbs (2 in bedroom and 2 in living room) I use a bridge as well. I was just wondering if the Hue dimmer would be the best and easiest way to have a controller on the wall. There are so many options that I'm a bit confused. I just want to be able to tap the wall unit to turn lights on and off and have setting but without using my phone each time. I'm assuming I can set one controller to control my bedroom and one controller to control my living room, correct? Thanks for the great video.

    4:00 The RunLessWire switch is NOT battery operated. Clicking the button generates enough power to send the wireless command. It really does work and is very reliable. No wires, no battery.

  • @ferconsigli
    @ferconsigli 3 года назад +1

    The wall switch module is probably battery powered because they may want to keep all accesories 110v-220v agnostic. They already have to produce two versions of each bulb (for 110v countries and for 220v countries) but accesories are universal.

    • @Justin_tech
      @Justin_tech  3 года назад

      Makes sense. This is what Hue said:
      One, we become independent from the wiring in consumers home. You for example are not in need of a neutral to connect to the switch and it can be installed in a single pole, 3-way, intermediate switch situation with ease.
      Second, it made the product smaller and more flexible. As you don’t have a fixed position to insert wiring it can be placed anywhere in the installation box. Making it fit in most cases.
      With over minimal 5 years battery you don’t have to worry it will run out quick and even in the app you can see the battery status if it becomes critically low.

      Look at Lutron. They have great smart switches that work well with smart home assistants. There's also the Philips Hue wall switch module which lets you use light switches in walls for hue lights.

    Hi Justin, I just moved into a new flat and the bedroom has two ceiling pendant lights on each side of the but it doesn't have switches to turn on/off the lights next to the bed... the switch is quite far from the bed actually :(
    I was thinking to change the bulbs of the pendant lamp for smart bulbs and get two Philips Hue Smart Buttons and stick them each on them both sides of the bed and then connect each button to each bulb. my question is how are the switches connected to the smart bulb? is it via Bluetooth? or via wifi? do you know any other solutions in the market to fix my issue? what happens if by mistake I turn off the normal switch do I have to set up the bulbs and the little hue buttons again?? thanks in advance!

    • @Justin_tech
      @Justin_tech  3 года назад

      The button connects over a technology called zigbee. For those you need a Hue bridge. The Hue dimmer can connect to the lights without a bridge, but only one at a time I believe. If you turn off the real switch you won't be able to use the other accessories to control them until the switch is turned back on. It won't mess up the configuration, it will just cut off the electricity and functionality. You could replace the light switch on thr wall with one of my solutions. Hope this helps! 🤓

      You can use an Alexa/Google enabled switch. There’s Aqara or the Flic button. Aqara is cheaper. Not AS many controls, but enough.

    I am having an issue that I hope someone can help with. After turning off the v2 dimmer switch, when I turn it on, it goes to full bright and to bright white light. What I'd really like to do is turn in on at the last setting that I had it on. Is there a way to do this? This is especially bad when turning on the light first thing in the AM. :-)

    • @GreeniusGenius

      Well it might be possible to pair it, but you wouldn’t be able to change the colours anyway, since the default scenes on the dimmer switches are various shades of white.
      Just get the bridge.

    I really like the SENIC because it doesn't rely on batteries and it's simple (but expensive). I think it would be awesome if someone would release a hue switch that replaced standard light switches in the hue system, but used power from the switch box. No batteries and it lasts forever. I'm an engineer and I guess there's something OCD I have about using something that's going to fail unpredictably in 3 years and possibly leave you in the dark. So I guess the SENIC is the closest.

    • @Justin_tech
      @Justin_tech  Год назад

      Agree on all points! Hue has a box you can put in the switch box, but it’s battery operated…

    • @jvburnes
      @jvburnes Год назад

      @@Justin_tech Yeah they totally missed the point. If you're going to bypass the old switch, just tap into the power. You wouldn't even need a neutral since it's super low power you could just use parasitic leakage current to power it.

    The designers at Phillips need to be slapped upside the head for not making their dimmer remote fit inside a normal 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang wallplate. For the life of my I can't understand why they didn't think of this. I don't want to attach that thing next to my existing wall plate. I want it to replace what's already there. And I want it to be a dimmer and not just a switch like that new wireless switch thing that uses your existing switch.

    • @Justin_tech
