I remember caravan holidays at Clacton in the 1970s. Parents used to throw all their small change into a sweet jar during the year, So we could play the slots at the caravan site. Mother spent hours playing bingo. She sat at a stall sliding little doors to cover over the numbers as they were called. Having to walk through loads of other caravans to get to the beach. Happy days. 🙂

Oh, yes indeed! When I lived in Cologne, Germany in the 1970s you could only buy basic food items on a Sunday by making a special trip to the main railway station in the city centre. Nothing else was open.
If you are near Zurich and want to do a big shop on a Sunday jump on a tram/train to the Migros at the airport. Normal prices and a good range. Airports can be an option for any country with daft Sunday trading laws.

Less than 12 hours that you so kindly posted your clip and less than 12 hours that I’m committing and I must be the 700th person up to date to leave a comment. Shows how popular you are with keeping us up to date with prices and taste. A house full of woman just like my grandad was, as ive mentioned before.
The onsite shops are usually run as a concession so the shop operator has to pay a hefty fee to the site owners hence the higher prices and yes they are relying on you forgetting things before you travel
@@stuartpace6111 Cravendale is sold in litres. I get the 2l which tends to vary in price from £2.30 - £2:45 in supermarkets or on offer 2 for £4. Started buying it as I was finding regular supermarket milk going off long before the date was due
Absolutely brilliant review again Gaz, you all deserve the break and glad you all enjoyed sonshine, also I thought the little bunny you saw was a treat 🫢🐰xx
Though we haven't done static caravan site for few years now, we always stocked up before we went as we realised quite early on that the onsite supermarkets were a rip off🤦♂️
My sister says that about the co op that they've got a captive audience, she will go on to say that they've got all the pensioners because they can't get about to town as well. They've also got all the shop lifters too, they're prolific near us and at my local aldi. They always go for the meat. 🍖
Totally agree about co-op. My old flat was next to a co-op and it was always busy no matter what time of day. People don't want to travel to Tesco,Asda etc. Me I will go anywhere to save
Me and my friend do caravan holidays. Before we go we google to find the nearest supermarket. Then go to the shop on the way to the site. Saves a lot! ❤
Gareth, as the saying goes. 'Make Hay While The Sun Shines' is what those businesses do while they can. Off season is dismal for income! Indemnity insurance costs are through the roof, that's why it's not cheap to stay at some holiday parks and recreation areas anymore. Plus the utilities and council rates are choking businesses to the point of collapse. Yes best come prepared when and where you can. Buy before, or you'll Pay later! But what a lovely area you have at your disposal. No shortage of oxygen being sucked up by hordes of tourists. Just relax and enjoy 👍😀 All the best to wife and lipy nippers. Cheers.
When we go away we find the closest supermarkets and stock up or we get a supermarket delivery. To the holiday house we stay at. It's just nice being away I do love caravans ❤
Every year more or less I go to one of these caravan parks. Mostly Parkdean, but the shop prices are the same. Rule No. 1, buy most of what you need in the nearest major supermarket. Use the on-site shop for basics only.
I always find your food reviews and supermarket commentaries very interesting. Here in the US, I do without some things when I think the price is too high. With little children though that isn't always possible. (Or with cats. My cats eat better than I do, I am convinced.)
In USA too, I see the holiday camp prices are higher than normal as per usual, but I think our prices are far higher in local supermarkets, Decent Bread here is $5-$6a loaf. Ruffles $6 its insane, I leave out the luxuries at that price too, Im not willing to fall for it.
@@rbnhd1144 I hear that. Went into Aldis not that long ago and saw a box of crackers for 7 something. More than seven dollars for a box of crackers?? No way am I paying that.
I have been to the same site a couple of years ago. I went to the Asda in Barrow for our weekly shopping. The shop and the chippy is expensive. There’s a chippy in the village. Not too far away which was more reasonable. I’m at the Filey site at the moment. Prices here are pretty much the same. Enjoy your holiday 👍
When you booked the holiday, it should tell you the grade of caravan that you paid for. Eg deluxe, prestige, platinum etc. great video. I love caravan holidays. Though they have gone expensive too. I always found the on site shop far too expensive. The issue is convenience and they know you may have travelled a long way, so you’ll pay over the odds for bread, milk etc. it won’t ever end… unless the camp sites close!
I've had a few Haven holidays but always left the site to find the nearest supermarket to stock up on food. When you go out on your day trips you stop off at the supermarket again on your way back to the site if you need anything. A rare treat to have a takeaway on site but same again, collected a takeaway on the way back to the site. When camping I would buy six disposable BBQ's and cook us all bacon for breakfast, no pan to wash and no fat splatters. Lol
I know what you mean, ive been taking my family on uk caravan holidays for the last 20 years. 7 nights caravan stay used to be 470 odd quid now 900 quid (south devon) as for on site food shop prices they are a joke. Abroad destinations are getting our money year after year as its cheaper. (well not mine anyway) . Thanks.
I am increasingly wondering why alcohol doesnt seem to be affected by the same overheads every other food and drink supplier is using as an excuse for prices. Strange that. Surely liquid in glass bottles costs more to transport than bread, but not subject to the same price increases.
@@pheart2381 That's because alcohol is not a necessity and people will stop buying it if the price goes too high, unlike food, electric, gas and fuel, where nobody has a choice. If alcohol went up like food or electric and gas, all the pubs would shut down, by the way its sort of happening even now, a lot of pubs closing every week.
You are so right …a captive market ..I live in Jersey so we are held to ransom ! Those are our normal prices …people are suffering here along with rest of UK with household basics , plus we pay an extra 5% on top !
When I went to Haven near Blackpool many moons ago it was a Spar supermarket, super expensive for the time. I just got a bus to the ASDA in the town and got all my shopping there, even with bus fair the shopping was cheaper
Pleased you had a good time. It looks a nice place. Expensive for a tent, wow. All the shops at holiday destinations are expensive as you say they know you will pay, lot of time you dont have a choice as yoj say they got you. These places are mega expensive now with all the price increases in your normal supermarket then these places add even more. I dont know where we are going with it all apart from up up and up. 😢
There's a chippy at the top of the main road you drive down to get to the site, also a local mini market which is cheaper than on site. Less than 5 min drive.
I know that a lot of people are struggling with the price of food but if you compare the price of food when I was a kid and the average wage when I was a kid with now I'm pretty sure that food was more expensive then than it is now. I remember when Lidl first came to the U.K and absolutely nobody could work out how they could be selling things that cheap but then we kind of got used to it. From my personal perspective I have reacted to the hike in prices by being more careful what I buy and trying not to waste food which has offset the shock of the increases but I realise that there are plenty who didn't have the option to be so wasteful in the first place.
We look after our grandchildren a couple of days a week during the school holidays. And to take them anywhere costs the minimum of £40, a trip to the cinema, by the time we’ve bought popcorn etc. Even a trip to the local park has a cost added to it, ie:- ice cream, coffee for granny and grand dad. I don’t know how young families, manage.
Yeah it would be nice if they did Local farm produce in the Store there to support the Local Farmers but it's all brand names at inflated prices.Nice to get away for a break though Mate.Hope You and the Family enjoyed it Gaz
I can't comment on the caravan park shop but our little estate shop is really struggling. They're not profiteering, they're just struggling with increased energy bills, increased prices at the Cash & Carry, increased business rates and rent, increased insurance. A few months ago they were robbed and the milk fridge died. That cost them over three grand. A lot of people grumble about the prices in comparison to supermarkets but supermarkets benefit from economy of scale, holding the producers' feet to the fire etc. My estate shop is barely breaking even. Supermarkets profits are HUGE. The estate shop delivers to the elderly and disabled and if it folds, a valuable community resource will disappear.
I would never use a holiday camp supermarket....only for emergency items......track down the local Lidl or other local supermarket ....if you can buy things beforehand....so you have something to eat and drink when you arrive....milk, tea coffee, bread etc....i know not everyone has a car so could be difficult....but maybe arrange an on line shop for when you get there x
Its crazy prices now, ive been a member of haven holidays for two decades, the prices have shot up a lot in last 5 years, i can remember a static van to buy was from £2k in 2006 now its £25k upwards, the prices are out of control.
Looks like a nice place to holiday with kids but the staff should be wearing balaclavas! I suppose if it's a long drive to a market, it's better to pay more for the convenience of the holiday camp shop than the petrol it costs to drive off-site to pick up the one or two things you forgot. Keep up the great videos!
We often book a few nights usually midweek breaks at these holiday parks as they are often low price and the caravans are fairly well equipped. BUT, we only use it as a base to visit the local National Trusts or English Heritage properties! We do not use the clubhouse, or any of the entertainment, we take our own food or buy it at the nearest supermarket. A great way to explore new areas and much cheaper than a hotel. We're a senior couple. Do not use the onsite shop!!
i worked there in 80...81 grass cutting ect, and as you have said prices are high, so go with loads more than you will eat, save a fortune, its changed a lot since i worked there, it was called the Pondarosa.
Site shops have you over a barrel you either use them and pay up or jump in the car and find a supermarket. where we go we do our weekly shop at a sainsburys an hour before we check in ,there are times when you'll need them for the odd item. The other great thing where we stop is you can order a take away and they deliver to the door.
Reminds me of a Center Parc I stayed at once near Paris. Pre COVID. The on site mini-market and restaurants were charging double what they should have been. Taught me to review the Trip Advisor comments section before booking my holidays!
The Caravans/mobile homes are fitted out lovely now(like yours) but if anybodies thinking about living in one full time because they`re much cheaper than a house; look into the pitch fees first. The charges here in Hampshire are approx. £7000 + per year. You still have to pay for your gas, electric and water on top of that+ many sites require you to leave site for 2 months of the year.
In terms of the prices, it's like looking into the future. If food inflation keeps on its current trajectory, those are prices you'll be paying in the supermarkets in six months to a year. Also note how the milk being sold was not in pints but in litres. From 568ml to 500ml. Already the case that filtered milk is sold in litres.
The point is you don't have to pay the prices. Take food with you and use the place as a base. We did Haven quite a few times with the kids. The entertainment is rubbish and cleanliness is suspect but we had days out in the car everyday. You don't have to get ripped off.
been many times, the chippy in the village is probably cheaper and the village shop as well,if push comes to shove carnforth tescos is about 20 to 30 minutes up the road nice vlog mate
We love this Haven, we live in Whitehaven and don't drive do it's a easy Train ride away. The onsite prices are terrible but the couple of shops in Flookburgh are decent. Also, when we go to Haven we do a Tesco online shop and get it delivered to the caravan otherwise we'd be skint day one 🤣

Less than 12 hours that you so kindly posted your clip and less than 12 hours that I’m committing and I must be the 700th person up to date to leave a comment. Shows how popular you are with keeping us up to date with prices and taste. A house full of woman just like my grandad was, as ive mentioned before.
Yes me and 3 girls lol
The onsite shops are usually run as a concession so the shop operator has to pay a hefty fee to the site owners hence the higher prices and yes they are relying on you forgetting things before you travel
Looking good thanks for your time😊
You said the price of milk wasn't bad, but that £1.50 was for 1 litre. It's £1.45 for 2.3 litres in normal supermarkets
Haha got mixed up, only human 😊 do you mean pints?
thought the milk was expensive as was the bread
In the UK its £1.45 for 4 pints of milk in supermarket's never heard of 2.3 litres
@@stuartpace6111 think local shops do have odd measurements..probably to fox you
@@stuartpace6111 Cravendale is sold in litres. I get the 2l which tends to vary in price from £2.30 - £2:45 in supermarkets or on offer 2 for £4. Started buying it as I was finding regular supermarket milk going off long before the date was due
In New Zealand those prices are standard. When I moved from Blighty in 92 NZ was cheap. Now it's a nightmare!
Thank you for the information 👍
Lovely video Gareth, next time bring bread and other essentials from home. Love the rabbit xx
Yes we did, but run out lol x
Cheers Gaz lad glad the weather is good for you guy's, its been persisting on and off with rain here in Swindon Wiltshire ffs but spot on review 👌🏻🔝😉👍
Cheers Tim, yes we home now, it's raining 🌧
Absolutely brilliant review again Gaz, you all deserve the break and glad you all enjoyed sonshine, also I thought the little bunny you saw was a treat 🫢🐰xx
Thanks 👍cheers ma xxxx
Shoplifters would go for my boot end if I saw one.
Can't really agree with you on Co-op. Their fresh own brand produce is really great quality 👌🏼
Shoplifters tend to stick to Gregg's here 😂
You’re a lovely dad ~ lucky kids! 🐰
Me and my friend do caravan holidays. Before we go we google to find the nearest supermarket. Then go to the shop on the way to the site. Saves a lot! ❤
Great tip!
I do exactly the same.
A good tip for all.
Top video mate. Thanks for showing us round where you can. Always the same scandalous prices at these places I hope you enjoyed though!! …. Smithy
No problem 👍 cheers Smithy
Love it. There's Right Guy Reviews holidaying in Fuerteventura and you're in Haven. Keeping it real. 😉👍
Just relax and enjoy 👍😀
All the best to wife and lipy nippers.
Cheers.
Cheers John, hope you're well pal 👍
It won’t end unfortunately, because it’s by design. Profiteering is actually just a small side issue really. It’s elite policy globally.
I love your RUclips channel and your video and I watch your RUclips video everyday and them are awesome
Cheers
glad you and family enjoyed the time away, yes i agreed always did, stockup b4 u go
We have done the sun holidays for years. Taking food from Aldi's with us and the sometimes the slow cooker.
Have an excellent break blue van man.
When we go away we find the closest supermarkets and stock up or we get a supermarket delivery. To the holiday house we stay at. It's just nice being away I do love caravans ❤
Cheers Sophie, yes we did but scoffed it all lol x
@@BaldFoodieGuy haha don't blame you :)) xx
I get worried if i did supermarket delivery to caravan i would get adress wrong
Every year more or less I go to one of these caravan parks. Mostly Parkdean, but the shop prices are the same. Rule No. 1, buy most of what you need in the nearest major supermarket. Use the on-site shop for basics only.
Last night my hubby had a medium cod, I had a small cod and we got a large chips between us - £30!!!!!
Wowsers
I always find your food reviews and supermarket commentaries very interesting. Here in the US, I do without some things when I think the price is too high. With little children though that isn't always possible. (Or with cats. My cats eat better than I do, I am convinced.)
You're welcome 😊
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the info!
Lol
Thank you pal
I know what you mean, ive been taking my family on uk caravan holidays for the last 20 years. 7 nights caravan stay used to be 470 odd quid now 900 quid (south devon) as for on site food shop prices they are a joke. Abroad destinations are getting our money year after year as its cheaper. (well not mine anyway) . Thanks.
You're welcome 😊
It's pure greed these days. Supermarkets have realised they can up their prices and blame it on the war.
Love this comment and well said 👍
Yes and it's nothing to do with the war, its to do with the money printing machine going brrr to pay for all that furlough
i am a shopper who buys the same things every week so you notice the hike in prices far more
I am increasingly wondering why alcohol doesnt seem to be affected by the same overheads every other food and drink supplier is using as an excuse for prices.
I was there in May. All I can say is don’t bother with the Papa Johns that’s there. £15 for a small cheese and tomato pizza 😂
Yes it's ridiculous 🙄
Roys Rolls cost the same as a Rolls Royce at the Haven Supermarket 😳
😮🤑
Hope you and family have a nice time. Bread at over 2 pounds crazy prices . Looks nice place.
Yes i agree get well stocked up before you arrive there .
Thanks for sharing!
Just love hanging out with you and walking around in England. I will never see it personally, but this is almost as good. Cheers Pat in New Jersey
Cheers Pat
Pleased you had a good time. It looks a nice place.
Expensive for a tent, wow.
All the shops at holiday destinations are expensive as you say they know you will pay, lot of time you dont have a choice as yoj say they got you. These places are mega expensive now with all the price increases in your normal supermarket then these places add even more.
I dont know where we are going with it all apart from up up and up. 😢
Thank you. Yes we will have to see. All the best 👌
Thank you 😊
I remember Butlins, Minehead, this was years ago and, prices on the camp where way more expensive than outside.
Every time I see these holiday camps, I'm waiting for Syd James and Kenneth Williams to walk by...😆
Haha carry on camping 🏕
@@BaldFoodieGuy Classics!
the classic bikini scene 😂😂
We look after our grandchildren a couple of days a week during the school holidays. And to take them anywhere costs the minimum of £40, a trip to the cinema, by the time we’ve bought popcorn etc. Even a trip to the local park has a cost added to it, ie:- ice cream, coffee for granny and grand dad. I don’t know how young families, manage.
Lovely thank you. 😊
A touring caravan for 2 weeks in August in Cornwall on a super pitch quoted me nearly £3000!!!!
Ridiculous when you're taking your own accommodation.
Wow that's just ridiculous isn't it.
Yeah it would be nice if they did Local farm produce in the Store there to support the Local Farmers but it's all brand names at inflated prices.Nice to get away for a break though Mate.Hope You and the Family enjoyed it Gaz
Cheers Darren, all the best mate. 👍
Yes they will disappear won't they unfortunately 😔
I would never use a holiday camp supermarket....only for emergency items......track down the local Lidl or other local supermarket ....if you can buy things beforehand....so you have something to eat and drink when you arrive....milk, tea coffee, bread etc....i know not everyone has a car so could be difficult....but maybe arrange an on line shop for when you get there x
I hope you all had a good break, Gareth.
Cheers Alan, yes was a good change 👍
All caravan park shops rip you off. As you say, Gareth, a captive audience. Thanks for the video while on a break 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Food in Asda is coming down in line with morrisons saver meals
Its crazy prices now, ive been a member of haven holidays for two decades, the prices have shot up a lot in last 5 years, i can remember a static van to buy was from £2k in 2006 now its £25k upwards, the prices are out of control.
Crazy isn't it.
Whenever we go to a holiday park we always find the local supermarket and stock up there lol never use the shops on site lol
Glad you are having A nice holiday Gareth. Best way to beat the prices on these sites, go loaded up, and drive to a local Chippy
Check out any of the shops in camber sands, let alone the nisa etc...
i worked there in 80...81 grass cutting ect, and as you have said prices are high, so go with loads more than you will eat, save a fortune, its changed a lot since i worked there, it was called the Pondarosa.
Cheers Carl
Reminds me of a Center Parc I stayed at once near Paris. Pre COVID.
The on site mini-market and restaurants were charging double what they should have been.
Taught me to review the Trip Advisor comments section before booking my holidays!
Good information 👍
The Caravans/mobile homes are fitted out lovely now(like yours) but if anybodies thinking about living in one full time because they`re much cheaper than a house; look into the pitch fees first. The charges here in Hampshire are approx. £7000 + per year. You still have to pay for your gas, electric and water on top of that+ many sites require you to leave site for 2 months of the year.
Yes it's not cheap is it. Between 6 and 12 grand a year here.
@@BaldFoodieGuy 😳
You would enjoy Weymouth. Plenty to do at Littlesea.
Cheers pal, have a good Sunday 👍
I used to work for Haven in Filey i was arcade engineer my days back in the 90's Haven was exspesive too
Cheers Peter for sharing 👍
A good one on ev if you break down aaman comes in diesel van with diesel generator in back to get yougoing again😅
Cheers Tony
Good afternoon Gareth I’d drive out and bring my shopping back with me £3.50 for a portion of chips outrageous. Have a lovely break and take it easy.
Sounds great!
Your videos are always so genuine and 'real', whatever you're talking about. Refreshing change from all the fake rubbish everywhere these days 👍
You're welcome 😊
Looks like a well spaced out site compared to some we've been too.
Come over to Ireland,,,Tesco call it treasure Ireland. We are ripped off on everything in Ireland.
Cheers Dave, yes seen a few people walking in. Brilliant pal, it's good to get out. 👍
