Goku's entire life is a near endless stream of moments where he did what could not possibly be done. You'll also notice they pointed out he was on the verge of losing consciousness. My own hypothesis is that in that state it is easier for instinct to take over. So, he's very close to achieving MUI, and then he's in a situation where he's pushed to the very limit, and his consciousness is being suppressed.
I think Kefla was there for Goku to train to get to ultra instinct, he had to practice or test his limits again before going against Jiren besides he gets stronger after each fight, so Kefla is a stepping stone but in a good way,

@@gionova1 I think he was talking about when we first seen them in the show, they couldn't even become super saiyan. I try not to think about the plot holes and just enjoy what I get but it definitely would have made more sense to have already had them at a higher level when we first seen them.
If Goku and Vegeta fused in this episode, they would have stomped through all the remaining threats. Assuming the fusion lasted long enough to fight Jiren, which may not have happened.
Fusion lasts an hour, maybe 30 min if they go Blue, there were only about 23 ish minutes left by this point, I'm sure there would have been plenty of time.

Many people don't like Kefla being so strong, but Vegito was also much stronger than Buuhan in just his base form, while SSJ3 Goku was nothing compared to him. Fusion multiplies power tremendously.

I will always consider the red god form = Sayian God. Due to his natural look hairstyle. And Blue Super saiyan God because his hair literally is in Super Saiyan just Blue. IDK WHY they didn't just say it that way. Ultra Instintc is essentially being "in the zone". That place where nothing else batters justbwhat youre doing. You lose your thoughts and you just flow. They dont get to expand much on UI (the autonomous part is just a word they added to match the lip flaps which you can just ignore). Its explored a lot more in the manga. Basically he has to hit a certain mental state which goes directly against gokus existence (in that he has to actively completely be free of emotional reactions which is how he's fought up until here, he's become better by applying his emotions). That + the imperfect version just drains him on an insane rate is why its so hard to maintain (perfected sortof has the same issue but less so).
Lets remember Goku was at about 30 maybe 40 percent of his power considering he was exhausted after the Jiren fight and he was STILL keeping up against Kefla. Had he been full power i doubt hed need UI to beat her

Whis said that Kefla's kick replicated the same power that shattered Goku's limits the first time, so basically Kefla is full power SSGSS Kaioken x20 Goku + Universe 7 spirit bomb and more at the very bare minimum. Kelfa has more power than even UI Goku does, Whis again stated that to beat her he needed to hit with with everything he has as his normal attacks weren't doing any damage to Kefla.

My hypothesis is further supported by Gohan being the one to defeat Kefla in the Manga rather than Goku. Regardless though we'll never know since it never happened. Good theory though.
They put a lot of emphasis throughout this episode on Goku still being too exhuasted to fight Kefla and I think that's what makes her pushing him believable.

We're rushing through this hero's journey Goku spent all of story up to this point just so they can be at the level to match him. Its pretty crazy how much the anime and manga differ in this arc. Obviously, Goku vs Kefla occurs in the anime. However, the manga has the fusion forced as Kale goes Berserk and doesn't have control over her power. It initially looks like we're going to have Goku vs Kefla, but Gohan takes they fight instead.
