- Pakistan has made remarkable progress in lifting its people out of poverty in the last 30 years. But COVID-19 has dealt a severe blow to its economy and reversed all the gains it had made in its poverty eradication efforts. An estimated 10 million more people are expected to fall into extreme poverty from the existing 50 million poor people in the country.
Will the government under its leader, Imran Khan be able bring relief to the pandemic stricken poor communities in the country? And can the people of Pakistan cope with the devastating impact of the pandemic?

PTI government took 15 billion rupees loan from IMF within 2 years, and PMLN took 15 billion rupees loan from IMF in 5 years of tenure. Due to high loan taken within 2 years cause tax raised by the government and daily life good prices increased rapidly . Just because of one mistake.
I live in Pakistan, poverty was there before Corona and is there after Corona, there isn't much of a lockdown anymore. The real problem that needs to be addressed with a heavy hand is corruption. Corruption is the reason for poverty because every system created to uplift the poor fails.

I hope these people interviewed were given sufficient payment for sharing their struggles and time. It is really not easy telling the others around the world that they are poor and starving. It would also be helpful if these documentaries not only shed light on the poverty situation but have a call for action: a way to help these people in need.

Educate the poor not to have too many children or none if they cannot afford, it's same goes to if we cannot afford something don't try to gets it, e.g someone borrow to buy something which can't afford to pay back and end up in trouble later

Being a Pakistani I have objected to this line in your description (Pakistan has made remarkable progress in lifting its people out of poverty in the last 30 years) how you can lie about us??? Not any single government do anything for poors in last 30 to 35 years and nothing will happen because of our politicians they are fighting each others just for winning the poors vote, if poor will rise no one will give them vote. That's why every new year our country will be 30 to 50 years back from other world.

They had their own very good houses and they were very well settled just few months ago but now they are not able to eat single good meal in a day because helping organizations thought they not on the road and not begging thats why they are not needy but a big number of this kind of people are in trouble .

compare this with India 🇮🇳. Indian government has provided 10kgs of free rice or wheat and 1 kg of pulse per person in every family of the country. In addition to this, Rs 1000 has been provided per family for 1 year. This means that one family of five people are entitled to 55kgs of free ration every month.
Also on a very subsidised rate , for example Rs 1 per kg, food is provided to the ones in need.
School children are provided free meals at school all over the country for the past 15 years.
I feel sorry for the people of other countries who are unfortunate to be born there.

Your opinoin is good....i am from pakistan and belonged to a middle class people not a richmen there is good steps taken by the govrment to defeat corona and also people have a positive response as well...but our ammune system of our people is so strong if corona attacked us so our people can easily defeated us.

I resonate with you, I found my heart being pulled. Here we are privileged enough to watch documentaries while others are out there suffering. The truth is, ensuring that money really reaches these beneficiaries is always a problem, many of them do not have a bank account. One way I can think off, is to give money to the charities, and hope this gets distributed out.

During good times, one can have more kids as a safety net for old age. When times are bad, more kids will push to further in poverty. If you look at rich people they have one or two kids. In this video, lots of poor people have more than 2 kids.
It really depends.. My parents are poor, I'm poor, I have over 10 siblings. We were farmers, the more kids there are means the more free labor you have. I had nothing growing up but I was never hungry...

IMHO, resources are dwindling, having more kids is a burden than more prosperity. It takes more than one generation to come out of poverty as they have to compete with affluent kids who develop more skills with their affordability.

To off-topic people talking about laborers being exploited in Singapore... would you rather richer nations like Singapore NOT offer jobs to laborers who might be jobless or earning a fraction of the money back at home? We can't say they have a fantastic quality of life being laborers in a foreign land, but this is at least one more option for them, and a practical way for money to flow back to poorer communities and countries from places where there is demand for labor.
If the situation was great back home no one would voluntarily leave their own country and family. Sure, it's not a perfect system; middle-men have always been exploitative and the laborers probably could earn more than they are getting now. The SG government also has a lot of self-examination to do regarding welfare of foreign workers here. But the workers are not slaves; they decided this was their best chance of a better life under hard circumstances, and talking as if they are a commodity being exploited is highly disrespectful and demeaning to them as well.
Thank goodness that there are still enough good souls around to help these desperate needy people. This pandemic has exposed all the inequalities that exist in our societies. Spending on Education and Health is only way forward for us.
We are so busy finding ways to design new phones, clothes, social media etc. Yet lack so much foresight into tackling poverty eradication.

The problem is low minimum wage and 10% inflation every year due to more dollars leaving the country undervalued the rupee. Bussiness affect by inflation can't expand fast enough to provide employment or provide a good wage. Solution is increase exports and make export easier by providing easy loans
