Hello, I own Canon R5C, R6 Mark II, and R8 cameras, and I use 14-35, 16mm RF, and 11-24 EF lenses. I’m considering purchasing the Samyang 14mm RF lens. However, since this lens is quite rare in the market, it raised some questions for me. Specifically, I read on BH Photo that some XP lenses are incompatible with Canon RF bodies. Additionally, Samyang’s distributor confirmed this incompatibility for XP lenses but did not provide a clear comment regarding the 14mm RF lens. So, I would like to ask you a short question: Can I use the Samyang 14mm RF lens seamlessly with auto focus in video mode on Canon R5C, R6 Mark II, and R8? Thank you!
Yes, and they are not too bad before doing micro correction. You could edit the photo without correcting any distortion and it would still look really good.
Great video. Wondering if you had to correct for distortion in post for your video with this lens. Or if what you showed was straight out of camera? Thanks
I believe sony has this mount as well for the 14mm samyang. I shoot all natural light and expose separately for the windows and then photo shop the windows in later.
And your humble opinion I am debating right now between Viltro 16mm 1.8 vs. Rokinon 14mm 2.8, I want to use this for real estate photo/video do you think I going t see a bit different?
For real estate, you will want to stop down to around f8 so don't worry about a large aperture. If you are just getting into it go with the 16mm canon rf. If you can spend a little more go with the canon 14-35 f4. If you want shallower depth and have a higher budget go with 15-35 2.8 rf.

@MelvinDlaCruz big difference 14 from 16. I do recommend zoom in real estate because it gives you options. Sony has good ultra wides. If you do prime go 14mm.
Awesome video. Thank you for posting. Your enthusiasm makes one want to buy right away lol. I am in the market for a new camera and will wait for the R5. I have recently started to shoot real estate stills and video using the 16-35 F4L. My choices of lens has narrowed down to the Samyang 14mm RF or the Laowa 15mm F2 Zero Distortion. Still not sure which is best🤔 I have a question. I shoot HDR real estate interiors using Photomatix to process and the processed pictures look very soft compared to yours. I tried a trial of Aurora 2019 and it was worse and their noise reduction was awful compared to Photomatix. What method do you use to get that sharp, clean look in your shots?
Mike Harris research “flambient” Rich Baum teaches it well. How to blend one flash and one ambient shot in photoshop. And I think that 16-35 you have is perfect for the job in both photo and video. Wider is not always better when showing a house and sometimes stepping back ten feet and zooming a bit in makes a space look more natural and inviting with compression, something most clients will appreciate. Also Pece photo is helpful and Nathan Cool.
@@nickdubesa8068 But he's not using the flambient technique .. he's shooting brackets for interior and for windows. @Visible Tour I also would love to see a video on your post processing and how you shoot bracketed exposures.

Hi I just bought canon eos R5 I have only 24-70 to shoot the room. I'm still thinking between 15-35 and 14-35 I'm afraid that 14-35 at 14 is too distorted not as sharp as 15-35.
I'm only familiar with the 15-35 rf and love it. If you don't need f4 the 14mm would work and shouldn't be too distorted. I think its only a $500 difference in cost.
It's an awesome lens but I'm selling it now. I bought the 15-35 Canon rf and it's much needed for me for the variable focal length when shooting architecture.
Please, please, PLEASE share a video of your post processing of photos? I love your crisp sharp photos and I'd love to ditch my flash and the flambient technique!

Is the only difference from this vs the older rokinon version auto focus? I’ve read the older 14mm Samyang/rokinon has some distortion near the edges. Did they fix that with this version?
I had the same question before I bought it and the answer I received from Dustin Abbott's channel when he did the review on the lens is that the EF version has less elements, more flare, but does have a very slight larger field of view. Where as the RF version is a slightly smaller field of view correcting some distortion issues and more elements in the glass preventing excessive flare. I hope that helps answer your question. I do know that the EF version needed a firmware updates after it was released to correct communication problems with cameras where the RF came with those updates already in them.

Do you know if there are any difference in glass quality between AF RF mount and other Samyang with this same focal length? Don't have a need for AF and thinking that EF could be more useful for me, but wonder if there is any difference in quality (distortion, fringe ECT.) Much appreciated.
11 would be great in some situations. I shoot with the 15-35 rf now for versatility. 90% at 15mm and 10% at 24-35 for different perspective. The 11-12mm gives a really distorted perspective and not always the most flattering for a property. Can be a good look for video walk throughs, but even then I will zoom to 20mm or 35mm for a more cinematic look.
@@JaredHoyman I am glad that you brought up the RF 15-35mm. I recently was in between the EF 14mm and the RF 15-35mm and finally decided to go with the EF 14mm for the price and also being the widest so at worst I can crop that out if needed. So your preference is now shifted to the 15-35 from 14mm?
Hello, thank you very much for your sharing. I have a question, how did you capture the bright interior but still retain the detail of the scenery outside the window? (sorry for my bad English)
For the video it was using two light sources in the room. For the pictures I exposed for the inside and then shot seperately exposing for the outside, which then I photoshopped the properly exposed windows into the properly exposed interior photo.
Samyang has autofocus which is a win and you can fix distortion in post. I will say I now use the Canon 15-35mm 2.8 rf and I can't believe how sharp and beautiful the image is plus the dual image stabilization with the R6 is amazing. If you can justify that for $2300 US go for that.
Hi, thanks for the review. Amazing editing skills you have. Well, I have a Sony A6000 that I want to use it for real estate photography & videos. Would you suggest the Samyang 12mm MF lens or the 14mm lens you are reviewing here?
neither. You're using what's referred to as an APS-C camera so putting this 14mm lens on your camera body would result in it being 21mm equivalent. I recommend the Laowa 9mm f2.8 lens for your camera as on the APS-C cameras it's a 14mm equivalent focal length. I used that setup for a long time as my main real estate shooting setup.
Interesting! I'm planning my first real estate photo shoot. I own the same lens, but EF (non AF). Do you think there is a difference with the RF lens in terms of distortion? Also, I'm shooting on a crop sensor Canon... so obviously my "ultra-wide" lens is actually not "ultra".
I actually switched to canon 15-35 for more versatile focal lengths in real estate. I use 15mm in side and use 20-35mm outside a lot. Samyang is good but canon is sharper and dual IS with R6 is awesome.
I shoot real estate and I am looking to replace my current lens and I have been eyeing the nikon AF version. How is the ghosting and flare when the sun or a bright light is in the frame during real estate? I have a Nikkor 14mm f2.8 AF-D currently and for real estate I am starting to get tired of having to flag the lens to prevent flare, especially during dusk shots.

HI! great channel. I have also come from the 360 route and following your footsteps into real estate video in the UK and would much appreciate your advice. :) I am torn between this Samyang lens and the Laowa 15mm f/2 Zero-D. Both have thier advantages but I was wondering if you have compared them yourself? Do you consider the AF and general ease of use to be a better buy then the distortion & filter bonus of the Laowa?
I have the Laowa 7.5mm for my GH5, which is a 15mm equivalent on a full frame. Samyang/Rokinon is better because you have the option of autofucus which the Laowa does not. Also, 14mm is a big difference from 15mm in width.

Nice vídeo. One question, does lightroom recognize this lens distortion? Thanks
The latest lightroom cc does. EOS R does have a internal profile update that will correct the distortion in camera, which is very nice.
@@JaredHoyman yes mine RP have but i never use it...i though it was better doing with lightroom CC. I need to compare. Thanks man. Have a good weekend and hope this pandemic end very soon.
@@JaredHoyman Can you do a tutorial on both methods of correcting the distortion - on camera and off? Great vid BTW
have you found out , you cannot use EOSR‘s stablization with the lens when you shooting video.
Hi Jared, what F stop do you use for real estate? Just picked up the Rokinon on Sony's system. Cant stop watching your video!
Great video man! Got exactly what I was looking for. And your real estate work is amazing! Do you use flash or bracket?
Thank you! I used to do flash but for time savings I moved to multiple exposures. I will bracket for the inside and then bracket for windows.
@@JaredHoyman it's working well in any situation?? and your bracket 3 or 5 ??
Photographer's shooting I guess with 2 different way
1- for example ( Bedroom ) shoot it 3 or 4 times with Different DOF as F8 or F9 and after that merge all DOF.
2- another way ( Bedroom ) only 1 shoot whatever F8 or F22 just 1 DOF
What is the better way to shoot real estate Under any circumstances??
Thank u
@@JaredHoyman DO YOU NEED 2.8 FOR REAL ESTAE?
@@k.o.t.o.n. no. I shoot F8. It is nice for video though.
@@JaredHoyman can you notixe the difference between sg like canon rf 14-35 vs 15-35?
Do you know if there are any difference in glass quality between AF RF mount and other Samyang with this same focal length? Don't have a need for AF and thinking that EF could be more useful for me, but wonder if there is any difference in quality (distortion, fringe ECT.) Much appreciated.
If wide is good why not use wider lenses like 11mm for real estate photography? I mean how wide is the limit?
@@cyrusIIIII I loved the 14mm, but the versatility of the 15-35mm was more important to me. The 14-35mm would be an excellent option too.
@@JaredHoyman Got it. Thanks for your advice and excellent videos.
@@cyrusIIIII Thank you!
Did you use a Canon EOS R for the photos?
Yes!
@@JaredHoyman Thanks.
Visible Tour thank you, I would appreciate it if you could make a quick video tutorial on photoshop
@@JaredHoyman Yes we would love to see a video on the masking of the window
This or the sharper less distortion Laowa 15mm f2, second hand mint condition for 400€ or brand new samyang AF 14mm for 250€? Can't decide..
@@TheMysticSpade Thank you. After 2 months of writing to you, I got a Samyang 12mm AF lens.
@@hiabhiabhi I’m not the uploader of this video. Just a guy scrolling through comments and saw your question.
Ef non AF is more distorted from my experience but won't matter on crop sensor. I would look at the 10-18mm ef for crop.
Hows the Vignetting?
Not bad! I shoot at F8 most of the time and only do 2.8 for video. No vignetting after F4.
is this compatibile with my canon eos t7 ?
It is not. It's for the mirrorless RF Mount. Look for a 10mm for T7.
Thank you for the video, I appreciate that.
Would you recommend the manual or auto focus for real estate videography - Real Estate Walk-Thru Videos?
Is this auto focus or manual lens?
Hows the chromatic aberration and barrel distortion? Do you have to tweak it a lot in post?
Hi, how is lens doing in this days, still shooting lots? :-)
I actually switched to canon 15-35 for more versatile focal lengths in real estate. I use 15mm in side and use 20-35mm outside a lot. Samyang is good but canon is sharper and dual IS with R6 is awesome.
@@JaredHoyman Thank you man. That what I was thinking as well to go for 15-35. I have canon 5R.
Is it okay to go with the Rokinon manual focus 14mm 2.8 ef lens with an R6 and adapter . . . or a waste of money?
I love this lens but it does let me down sometimes with poor flare resistance
Are you still using this lens 9 month later! Great video!
I subscribed right when I heard you shoot in 1080 and upscale to 4k. Pro move! lol
Vibe check.
Ridiculously wide title belongs to the laowa 9mm. That one is insane!!
Which camera do you have this glass attached to for these real estate interior shots?
That was the EOS R. It's now on my R6.
I shoot real estate and I am looking to replace my current lens and I have been eyeing the nikon AF version. How is the ghosting and flare when the sun or a bright light is in the frame during real estate? I have a Nikkor 14mm f2.8 AF-D currently and for real estate I am starting to get tired of having to flag the lens to prevent flare,
especially during dusk shots.
Flare in my opinion is well controlled. Obviously avoid shooting right into the sun, but it is pretty minimal.
Hello from Spain!
Great job I like it a lot!
I have a question I do real estate photography and I want to buy this 14mm... " is there any quality diference between manual an AF? Thanks a lot!
From what I heard there are more elements in the lates AF one which helps prevent major flare.
Thanks a lot for your answer it really helped me!
@@ademmrafaelfustersegui8232 Glad to hear!
Brand new here... Will it connect to a cannon 80D???
Get the EF version, but it wont be a full 14mm wide angle since it's on a crop sensor. I would suggest the canon 10-18mm ef instead.
@@JaredHoyman thank you
I am planning to get the Irix 15mm for getting started in this kind of photography, would there be a big difference between 15mm and 14mm? I have never used such focal lengths before :(
Thanks!
Very informative video... Thankz dear
YES
Thanks... I will buy this lens and need this great confirmation.
Just starting my research so i may figure this out on my own, but is there a AF version of this lens for a Canon 5D MK IV?
There is! You may want to look at the canon 16-35 f4 EF mount for the 5D. I really enjoyed that lens and its versatility.
@@JaredHoyman I have the 17-40 f4 already Would that work for real estate photography because it feels like such a waste to buy nearly the exact same lens
@@jeffcohnphoto The 17-40 would work well for Real Estate photo's. I would save your money and start with that and as your business grows maybe go a little wider, but you may find you wont need to.
@@JaredHoyman ok thanks! I was looking at 10-20 range but none seemed full frame so ill start with what I got
Using on an R6 and many of my images are coming out soft even using a tripod. R6 shows IBIS is in use and I have H+ available for shutter mode so I think the firmware is up to date. Does this lens have issues with IBIS on a tripod? Also I haven’t found an update for Lightroom lens correction.
Would the 18mm samyang be good for real estate photography too?
I would say stick to 16mm or wider. I find the 15-35 RF to be excellent.
HI! great channel.
Beautiful pics.
which is best for astrophotography this or sigma 14mm f1.8 art? how is it in a coma?
