  • I install the Likewise RLX reverse lockout system in my MK3 Ford Focus RS!
    I have long been a fan of Likewise and follow them closely and indeed I have been using the thicc boi for quite some time in my Focus RS and have had great success with it and it still looks as new as the day I got it!
    So when they revealed and released the RLX reverse lockout system, I was super excited and have now got one shipped here to Northern Ireland, all the way from Australia!
    Straight out of the box I can tell that Likewise have put a lot of time and effort into the design and manufacture of the RLX. The box itself looks cool and is solid and the hardware items themselves are machined and anodised to perfection!
    You may think that the reverse lockout on the Focus RS (and ST as well as in the Fiesta and basically all modern Fords) is not real metal - it is a metallic plastic so it is easily damaged, flimsy and just not a high end trim piece - The Likewise RLX is the complete opposite!
    Made from a single piece of machined and anodised aluminium, the RLX is top quality in every way and despite being lightweight aluminium, has a reassuring heft to it that the cheap OEM part certainly does not have!
    You get a choice of colours for the little lever so I went for red and it really does look awesome!
    In this video I show the installation process (skipping over center console teardown and build up as I have shown that a couple of times in previous videos so will link to one of those down below) all the way from dismantling the stock reverse lockout and then building the new Likewise RLX into the Focus RS setup. It is mostly quite simple and hassle free apart from one bit, but I have a plan B, as you will see!
    Likewise provide a convenient hardware pack that has all you need to put the RLX system together, including one of their thread adaptors so you don't need to buy one of those separately, so that is a nice touch. It comes in a blue/green colour by default but that doesn't really matter as it is hidden after installation!
    Likewise even throw in the hex keys that you need so that is a couple less tools that you need to have on hand!
    I also change up my actual shifter setup, switching from the Thicc Boi to a combination of the Nad Pro and the Rod Stewart Junior Pro. I am doing this just to try something different and see what I like and will probably play with different configurations of shifter but while I do show this and mention it, it isn't the focus of this video - it is all about the RLX reverse lockout system!
    All in all, I am loving the look and feel of the RLX and indeed everything from Likewise so I highly reccomend you check their products out!

    Likewise say about the RLX reverse lockout:
    We're constantly asked: "why don't you make a Likewise reverse lockout?". We've always wanted to - we just didn't want to release the same design as every other ba**ard.
    We took this as an opportunity to develop something different, something better. Introducing the world's first two-piece reverse lockout featuring a height-adjustable rear lever. Finally, an incredibly comfortable reverse lockout that doesn't follow the status quo. Introducing: the RLX Lockout.

    Mate i know not related to this Video, but would you recommend the MOUNTUNE exhaust system you have or had on the RS

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  10 месяцев назад

      So yes I would recommend it because I think it is one of the best sounding systems for the RS, build quality is very nice and looks good but it does have it's quirks, the main one being that the nuts on the v band clamps are mild steel instead of stainless which means they will rust badly over time. Not a big deal to replace the clamps but annoying none the less given the cost of the system. Then also on the subject of their choice to use v band clamps for the tips is just dumb. They provide practically zero adjustability and no other maker on the market sells replacement tips with v band connections if you ever wanted or needed to change. Oh and mountune refuse to sell tips separately. So that was a bit of a gripe but one that I overcame with my own customer fabricated adaptors that allowed me to use milltek tips, at which point the system was close to perfect

    Do you have any future car plans Adam. Disappointing that Ford are leaving the hot hatches behind. Future plans are pretty unclear. As always, great content.

    Hi Adam ,
    i am from germany sorry for my englisch. Do you have any issues with your transmission, any wear in the syncros or shift forks from your weighed shift knob? I am planing to switch my carbon fiber RS shifter for a weighed shifter. I am a bit worried that it could have the same effect as resting your Hand on the shifter. Thanks and keep up the vids!

      @AdamRainey  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, I've had no issues with the weighted shifter (and mine are very heavy) or any other mods like all the solid bushings or short throw setup. The trans is still stock internally and has survived over 6 years of life that has included lots of spirited driving, many uses of launch control, fun with drift mode and hammering around the nurburgring

      I will add to that, that of people have had issues then it is either bad luck, bad installation of parts, or most likely their own bad driving that is the problem. I heard of a chap that has replaced his clutch 6 times and keeps asking who makes a clutch that will last longer but in my opinion it is his lack of driving skill that is killing them

    Hey so I just bought my rlx from likewise for my focus rs but have a small issue, trying to figure out if I installed it wrong or if you have the same problem, as I lift from the red attachment the rlx seems to get stuck, sometimes it goes up difficulty and sometimes it doesn't go up at all, when pulling up on the rlx from the shaft, it moves perfectly. Seems to me there is wiggle room and it won't slide up and down perfectly straight

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  10 месяцев назад

      What shifter do you use? Also what position do you have the RLX lever in?
      What you describe can happen when using an extended knob and the lever in the furthest away position, seemingly because of the angle it creates between the fingers on the lever and the top of the knob
