Honestly I'm glad someone said this in such a simple way, it's something that's hard to describe, I went into this expecting to have a bad time, i'm a grown man (debatable) and I've always had gripes about the plot and in my heart, i went with ''This will give zero answers to all the bs that accumulated in all these years'' and that It did, nothing in the ongoing plot ever felt like it was thought out. But, I ended up enjoying my time with it anyway, cause, it is just a kid naming all the cool stuff they have in their mind and favourite stuff, it doesn't have to be deep or even tie everything together, it can't, but, maybe that's not where the fun is, it was fun seeing the Disney stuff being remade in such high fidelity, it was impressive to see how technology evolved, it was fun mashing that button and seeing the pretty lights, and it was fun to see the ocs cry it out with such conviction that you buy in the fantasy, it's different and kinda unconventional at points, and well, I guess that now I'm a grown up that knows that at the end of the day it doesn't need to tie stuff, cause at the end of the day, it is just digital characters acting, and its up to you to give yourself into the cheese anime bullshit, and that I ended up doing. The stories already wrote itself into a convoluted corner, so join into the heart dance and have fun with what there is or whatever. I do have gripes of it as a game tho', there's lot's of problems, but then again, what dosen't have problems.
I think I'm at the point when ThorHighHeels became one of my favorite vg channels, if not THE favorite. At first I couldn't understand what so special here because it seems it just a dude playing video games, but than it hit me - "IT'S A DUDE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES". In a world with "journalist" praising pretty much anything attached to AAA brand if it's remotely playable and woke and "critics" whose only idea of "review" is being cynical twat who can only be bitter about industry and plays games with face of Ego from Ratatouille, there exist this some random guy who just talks about video games. It's just such a fucking comfy middle ground. I think most people I watched on subject review games focusing on themselves rather than games. Which is not inherently wrong. But, like, every time I try something new I look at it from a position "OK, so what's this game/genre idea, what it provide me in terms of experience? Does it have some special atmosphere/charm to it? Complex rewarding gameplay? Is it puzzles, combat, characters, story it focuses on? Or is it just goofy thing to relax with, or perhaps some kind of eerie unusual thing that it tries to achieve?". You know. Like, in what situation or mood I can enjoy it, where/when it would be fitting to fuck with. This is what I mean when I talking about viewing games from position of games and your experience with them, where in a lot of cases with other reviewers I just see them talking about "Uhhh, I don't like this type of shit, this is WRONG and BORING" or straight up bitching about games they simply don't find (or don't want to find) any appeal personally like it's worst thing ever existed not in case of opinion but rather like objective fuct. And everyone have their own preferences, of course, myself included, but I think you get the idea. What's so awesome about Thor is that he talks more about games themselfs, while perfectly mixing in his personal thoughts and experiences with what game is striving for. Like he understands that the game does not need perfectly awesome gameplay or super intellectual deep story to appeal to him and other gamers. It doesn't even have to be good for you to like it. It's more of question what spots it tickles in you and when. He is not over-analyzing story or gameplay mechanics, only enough to give you right idea of what kind of game it is and how it influenced his experience playing it. His videos are like talking to your nerdy neighbor about what game he was playing last weekend. It's a wholesome comfy talk with someone who likes videogames, and to whom they are obviously more than JUST videogames. Not to mention that digging out old hidden gems is one of the noblest things to do ("Oh, I see you're man of culture as well" type of thing). Honestly dude, thank you. Being introverted "that guy who reads every message in the chat but never writes anything" person, I think this is the only channel on youtube I'm feeling to actually comment something on. Damn holy shit thank you so much. And yeah, I definetly always try to take games for what they are. Judge them on their own terms & stuff. Especially when I know it's been made by a small team or on a low budget, as many lesser known games will be. I always try to be mindful of the people who've made it I guess. Even of they made something bad, I'd like to think they still poured their heart and soul into it. I'd feel like an asshole if I'd came at them all harsh.
I bought KH3 for my bro. While I’m not too big on KH (only played a good chunk of KH2) , I can imagine getting mad HAPPY feels when finally playing if I was invested in the series from the start. It seems like a satisfying return, and conclusion. They added a lot to the gameplay it seems. Hell, seeing the Pixar shit and Twilight town again was enough to make me smile. It’s good you’re is making a vid on a game’s genuineness. People tend to laugh that kinda stuff, and that’s a shame.
the gameplay in kh3 is one of the worst in the series. i love kh1, re chain of memories, and kh2 and have replayed them all several times and i could barely force myself to finish kh3 once. once i did make it through the boring crap, i got rid of it because it's the only kh game i've played that i was fully confident i'll never want to play again under any circumstances. i was so hyped for this game and wanted to love it but the entire game, both gameplay and story, bored me from start to finish like no game ever has.

The stigma around fanfiction is interesting, considering so much popular media out there can be translated to fanfiction based on writing structure and characterization. It's not just them taking place in an existing universe nowadays. Hell, in some countries, including Japan, you can find a career writing fanfiction if you respect and get permission from the proper IPs. I do wish it would alleviate a little bit. I enjoy writing fanfiction myself, but I at least have dignity and respect for proper writing and techniques. KH is so blatant in what it represents, but does that matter? Another person is making serious dough from their repressed childhood.
The Marvel cinematic universe is basically fan fiction at this point, no single movie is without its cameos or hints at other things to come. People bashing fanfiction are a bit hypocritical.
Star Wars. Expanded. Universe. Also, hundreds of novel tie-ins to everything from Dungeons & Dragons and Mechwarrior to Halo and The Witcher. People have been writing fanfiction professionally for decades.
i liked this game! i feel like a lot of the edgier reviews of this don’t really keep in mind the self-indulgent nature of kingdom hearts. i don’t really think it’s meant to be amazing, but i feel like a lot of heart went into its self-references. i guess you could say i finished the game with this feeling of “that was cute!” the gameplay and its twisty turny incomprehensible story was the kind of fun that allowed me to shut my brain off and chill out.

You know what I realized after watching Avengers: end game? KH and the marvel cinematic universe are extremely similar. Only difference is that the MCU is a lot easier to follow lol

Sounds like Sora and the gang would definitely appeal to me, so thanks for the effort you've put in to turn an oldboy onto these games; a more cynical reviewer might have led me to avoid them. I agree with your assessment of games' changing relations to their fan networks, as people grow up and reflect on their childhood pasts. Seeing Sonic go full circle with that, making Forces have an OC generator feature was both a nod and a wish fulfillment in one; half laugh at the cringe, half earnest fanservice. It's all one big ball we're spinning on, and we're bound to meet something of ourselves on it at some point. Good work!

great video! Its funny, but i would say that i have a strange relationship with kingdom hearts franchise, i like it, but at the same time i feel betrayed, if it makes any sense hahaha. Not sure if it happened with you guys, but i was attracted to play kingdom hearts because it supose to have final fantasy stuff, and even the games delivering some ff style plot, i'm not entirely happy with what i received. Like you, i'm not so in disney stuff, i watched some movies, but they never really got me, so the final fantasy elements were totally what got my attention, but game after game, they simply never delivered any big final fantasy stuff, like worlds based on the games, or characters from ff being part of the plot at any degree, not just some sort of trap to lure Jrpg players like me hahah. I havent playerd kingdom hearts 3 yet, too expensive to a brasilian guy haha, but as internet talks, i heard that there is not a thing about ff in the game, i mean cloud, squall, sephiroth battle etc, and that pushs me back even more. I will play it one day, when the price starts to make sense to my economic reality, but i'm already sure that it will not satisfy me at all.
It's sad that the FF stuff is missing, but on the other hand, there's a lot of FF fan service out there now a days. It's less novel now. Though Leon & Cloud did deserve endings to their arcs I feel. But who knows, we might get those in later games.
Personly i do like the story of Kingdom hearts. I still have hope Namura aculy planed a few majour plotpoints for the enxt saga But still hope he didnt plan everything caus this means we will be surprised

I really like this video. It's a shame that the honest and genuine heart that KH wields doesn't really make me feel absolutely anything past the second entry (maybe due to nostalgia, yeah, who knows, I think it has its highlights but anyways). I just think it's stupid and that's cool to a degree (cause of the fanfic crazyness n stuff) but little more. I'm glad it exists thou but, yeah, after KH2 everything went to utter shit and I can't really see the charm anymore. In fact, KH3 was one of the hollowest experiences I've ever had, like if it was a fake game created by a machine trying to convey what the first two games where. I mean the ending is just goddamn horrible, charmless as hell and twisting things to a degree in which not even the twisting the twisted is fun anymore. Anyway, KH3 was pretty sad for me.

Eh, I don´t know. The script of KH3 and the new DLC was total shit to me and I didn't mind the plot of KH2, BBS and even kinda liked COM. KH3 also had 13 hours of cutscenes. Badly, badly directed cutscenes. Solid game but it makes for an unwatchable anime. 7/10 The DLC is a 5/10.
KH has my fav action combat in any game and both the best final boss and best optional boss. When I saw the optional boss from KH3 I pucked, looked terrible, sounded terrible and god I hope it isn't foreshadowing anything like the other superbosses
Like you said for the game yourself, this video was nice attempt to make something meaningful out of this franchise, but that doesn't necessarily equate to success. My full thoughts on what I disagree with would be too long for just a comment, so I'll say this. Given how kh was initially conceived as well as interviews that have come and gone over the years, it's hard to say where creative passion ends and cold executive pragmatism begins.
I've felt this for a long time, the fact it seems like fanfiction (and incompetent fanfiction specifically, but that's a different issue), and it can be used to highlight the hypocrisy involved in a lot of how fanworks are viewed: If KH was posted in text form, word-for-word, even with the same competency of visual art for reference, to some fanfiction hosting site, it would be mocked mercilessly by the SAME PEOPLE THAT LOVE IT AS A GAME! At least, I feel very, very strongly that this is the case, and since I can't go back in time or enter another universe to test it, meh, whatever. Point is it's 'acceptable' to (read: 'loved to death by') people who see it coming directly from SQEENIX/DIDNEY as validation despite being an incompetent mess, but if some passionate, if equally inept person went and made this by themselves as a passion project? Utter garbage worth of only the strongest mockery possible! Unfair is an understatement, and I fucking capital-H A T E this franchise! Just let fans be nerdy fans, guys, they at least have the balls to put it out, you know?

To be honest, I don't understand why people get upset over cringy stuff. I guess "video game journalists" care more about how they think the game should be instead of what the game actually is.

finally someone made a video not taking a shit on this game; it wasn't perfect sure but i enjoyed my time with it. These games will always hold a special place in my heart and i could watch sora literally do anything and id be stoked on it (aight imma go replay through the series now for the 100th time)

You know it's funny that at some point failure of others can ironically lead to motivation for everyone else (One can even argue that perhaps that's why there's a decline in "quality" with how games feel nowadays blah de blah de blah) I mean even if it's an obvious set up for a fall, seeing how supposedly certain games do so much wrong yet get green lit really does make you think "Maybe I have a chance"
(You know minus any backroom and other connections and money throwing that may in fact be the actual reason :/)
I honestly tend the get the most inspiration out of flaws. It's almost like getting a peak behind the scenes. Plus it let's you appreciate the good bits more.
You set off some pretty big bees in this video - I approve. Will be playing FFVIII soon, but have always been intrigued by KH, if a little intimidated by the sheer amount of lore and spin offs the series is infamous for. Your vids on it make it all a lot more approachable - after watching this one I checked out your reviews of KH 1 & 2. Sounds like Sora and the gang would definitely appeal to me, so thanks for the effort you've put in to turn an oldboy onto these games; a more cynical reviewer might have led me to avoid them.
I agree with your assessment of games' changing relations to their fan networks, as people grow up and reflect on their childhood pasts. Seeing Sonic go full circle with that, making Forces have an OC generator feature was both a nod and a wish fulfillment in one; half laugh at the cringe, half earnest fanservice. It's all one big ball we're spinning on, and we're bound to meet something of ourselves on it at some point.

It's kinda weird only seeing this AFTER the recent DLC came out but it's neat hearing a positive view despite the lack of certain things from the DLC because those weren't a thing until now.

There are many great characters in the ThorHighHeels cinematic universe, but Nomura sure is a contender for most gut-bustingly funny skit person (followed by or tied to game reviewer challenged by his college friend who we have no relation or understanding of to review terrible games from his childhood that have haunted him *deep breath* and daviduh cagy)
I know nothing about the KH series and I just have to imagine how all the scenarios shown fit into some type of story.

great video! Its funny, but i would say that i have a strange relationship with kingdom hearts franchise, i like it, but at the same time i feel betrayed, if it makes any sense hahaha.
Not sure if it happened with you guys, but i was attracted to play kingdom hearts because it supose to have final fantasy stuff, and even the games delivering some ff style plot, i'm not entirely happy with what i received.
Like you, i'm not so in disney stuff, i watched some movies, but they never really got me, so the final fantasy elements were totally what got my attention, but game after game, they simply never delivered any big final fantasy stuff, like worlds based on the games, or characters from ff being part of the plot at any degree, not just some sort of trap to lure Jrpg players like me hahah. I havent playerd kingdom hearts 3 yet, too expensive to a brasilian guy haha, but as internet talks, i heard that there is not a thing about ff in the game, i mean cloud, squall, sephiroth battle etc, and that pushs me back even more. I will play it one day, when the price starts to make sense to my economic reality, but i'm already sure that it will not satisfy me at all.
It's sad that the FF stuff is missing, but on the other hand, there's a lot of FF fan service out there now a days. It's less novel now. Though Leon & Cloud did deserve endings to their arcs I feel. But who knows, we might get those in later games.

I really like this video. It's a shame that the honest and genuine heart that KH wields doesn't really make me feel absolutely anything past the second entry (maybe due to nostalgia, yeah, who knows, I think it has its highlights but anyways). I just think it's stupid and that's cool to a degree (cause of the fanfic crazyness n stuff) but little more. I'm glad it exists thou but, yeah, after KH2 everything went to utter shit and I can't really see the charm anymore. In fact, KH3 was one of the hollowest experiences I've ever had, like if it was a fake game created by a machine trying to convey what the first two games where. I mean the ending is just goddamn horrible, charmless as hell and twisting things to a degree in which not even the twisting the twisted is fun anymore. Anyway, KH3 was pretty sad for me.

Eh, I don´t know. The script of KH3 and the new DLC was total shit to me and I didn't mind the plot of KH2, BBS and even kinda liked COM. KH3 also had 13 hours of cutscenes. Badly, badly directed cutscenes. Solid game but it makes for an unwatchable anime. 7/10 The DLC is a 5/10.

Like you said for the game yourself, this video was nice attempt to make something meaningful out of this franchise, but that doesn't necessarily equate to success. My full thoughts on what I disagree with would be too long for just a comment, so I'll say this. Given how kh was initially conceived as well as interviews that have come and gone over the years, it's hard to say where creative passion ends and cold executive pragmatism begins.

I've felt this for a long time, the fact it seems like fanfiction (and incompetent fanfiction specifically, but that's a different issue), and it can be used to highlight the hypocrisy involved in a lot of how fanworks are viewed: If KH was posted in text form, word-for-word, even with the same competency of visual art for reference, to some fanfiction hosting site, it would be mocked mercilessly by the SAME PEOPLE THAT LOVE IT AS A GAME!
At least, I feel very, very strongly that this is the case, and since I can't go back in time or enter another universe to test it, meh, whatever. Point is it's 'acceptable' to (read: 'loved to death by') people who see it coming directly from SQEENIX/DIDNEY as validation despite being an incompetent mess, but if some passionate, if equally inept person went and made this by themselves as a passion project? Utter garbage worth of only the strongest mockery possible!
