Hi Somesh, I actually bought riverside 500 given the suspensions it has to offer. One issue I see on the first day of driving is that changing gears between 3rd-4th make harsh sound (similar to if the chain is slipping from the cassette and is not properly fixed). I will be going to Decathlon for getting this fixed. Do you think I should ask for a full replacement given it is a new product or is it something expected from a gear cycle ?
Well the 900 has a nicer suspension fork and it has 10 gears at the back instead of 9 and its lowest gear has even more teeth than riverside 500 so climbing gets even esier on it. Thats about it.
I have riverside 500, 2015 model. It's been seven years. You are right about speed. I was looking to upgrade it, can you recommend some within the budget of 60K or something for daily commute as well as Tours like Mumbai-Goa vial uphilll road?
Do the disk brakes need any matainance? Also, are these better than the brakes on Riverside 120? Also, doesn't the rear spring especially reduce the speed at which we can cruise on this bike? (more so than the front fork)
I personally would take riverside over firefox cuz of the 1x system. Not having a derailleur in the front seriously helps simplify shifting, reduce maintainence and reduce the weight of the bicycle.

Hey Somesh, Excellent review on BTWin Riverside. I am planning to buy HOPRIDER 500 LONG DISTANCE CITY BIKE .. Would it be possible for you to share your comments on this bike .. I am a beginner level rider in UK at the minute
I wasn’t actually aware of the HOPRIDER 500 since it isn’t available in India but I went and looked it up for you. Firstly i think the bike looks great, it is a good commuter bike for the price. I want you to know that the intention with which this bike is built is commuting and utility. So if you are planning to ride for improving yout cycling performance or sport purposes, this isnt the bike for you, chief. The focus of this bike is clearly comfort and utility. It is going to put you in a position thats very comfortable for your back, it has mudguards to protect from the rain, a light to help with the dark and pannier racks to carry stuff. Coming to the specs i think this is a well specced bike for the price and since a lot of these components aren’t too expensive, repairs and replacement will be cheaper. You can also do at-home repairs on this bike because if anything goes wrong it can be easily and inexpensively serviced and you will get to learn bike repairing in the process. I think this is a great beginner bike for you, but it is also important that you keep in mind the purpose of this bike, it is made for leisure rides, commutes, and for enjoying cycling in general… if you decide to ride it on a single track or trails or if you try to keep up with roadbikers wearing lycra and going at 50kmph, this bike isn’t gonna hold up. If you liked my content, consider subscribing, it means a lot to me and takes only a moment of you time.
@@13ballom Thank you so much for valuable review! I was confused between Riverside 500 vs Hop rider 500.. I'll prefer to use it for leisure rides and some cycling fun. You comments related to maintenance of the bike is the most important part of your reply. You helped me to set the last piece of puzzle. Cheers!
I need a hybrid bike for daily ride 30 km every day. There is no dealer of Decathlon nearby me. If I buy Riverside 120 online, would it be a good decision? What about servicing?
Yes riverside 120 is a good option. As far as servicing is concerned, any local mechanic can do the servicing, the bike doesn’t use any special parts that are only available at decathlon. Alternatively i suggest you buy some tools like allen keys set, 2 adjustable wrenches. Tyre levers, puncture kits, cone wrenches, chain breaker, pliers, screwdrivers, cable cutters etc and learn to service it yourself by looking at youtube videos. The best part about self service is that you learn everything in the process and it is free everytime after u buy the tools. Finally, to the mechanic your bike is just a job that earns him money so he wants to do it fast so that he can maximise his earnings. To you, your bike is your belonging so you will take care of it well while servicing. If this helped, please consider subscribing
Bro great detail review. Since my budget is 10 to 12k. I want to ride on road for daily 1 hour on weekdays and long ride upto 50-100 kms on weekends. Which bike should be suitable for me? I am looking forward to buy st 30 or riverside 120. I am only concerned about few things. 1. Seating posture while riding should be comfortable for long ride as well. 2. Since rockrider comes with single rim and 120 with double rim which is better? 3.rigid fork used by both the bikes. Which is better between them? I am not Rough rider. My height is 5'5 165 cms and weight is 76 kgs. Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.
You said that you want a comfortable posture, so I would suggest going for the riverside. It also has more road suitable tyres than the st30 which should help with easier pedalling. Finally, you won’t believe how much of a difference double wall rims make. Go for riverside 120 because double wall rims almost never have spoke breakage or rim bending issues. My suggestion would be to go for riverside 120, its going to have a more comfortable frame and a nicer rim and tyres for your intended usage.
@@13ballom thanks bro for your suggestion. I was really confused between these two and you solved my issue. After how many days we need to do servicing of gears ? Can you make video for the same? Can we do at home or we need to take some nearby shop or decathlon store?
@@learningarmy88 sorry for the late reply, i would say service the bike once a month. You can service it both ways, 1- by taking it to decathlon and 2- by doing home repairs. I would suggest home repairs because over a long course of time, it makes up for its cost. The upfront cost of home repairs is much greater because you need tools to repair a bicycle and many a times these tools are more expensive to buy than it is to pay a mechanic. But a tool, once bought is forever yours to use. You will also gain knowledge of repairing your own bike which is also invaluable… and over the course of years, repairing and servicing becomes essentially free because you will have both the knowledge and the tools.
@@learningarmy88 depends on your city and the duration of how long you wish to keep your bike parked, in my city bike theft is rare so a wire lock suffices and also i never park my bike anywhere , where i cant see it.
For city purposes, this bike climbs fine, you wont have problems riding long distances with flyovers and stuff… but if you are thinking of a proper hillclimb bike then this falls short
I didn't have a problem with the saddle as it is, even during longer rides of 60-80km. It was extremely comfortable for me. But don't take my word for it, each person's buttock shape and pelvic dimensions are different. What may be comfortable for me may be uncomfortable for you. So try it out, see if you like the saddle, if you don't like it, you can always change the saddle or add a gel cover or wear cycling shorts with padded chamois.

@@13ballom i'm considering this frame for my gravel build and i've read in another video that it feels slower and they said maybe it's because of the suspension.. i might actually get a carbon fork too hehe, thanks for the fast reply! subbed
@@whoami724y thanks for the sub. I dont think the frame makes it slow, i think it is definitely the suspension fork and the heavy wheels of the bike. Getting rid of the fork for a rigid one will improve power transfer and the wheels are more than 1000grams per wheel so a wheelset upgrade will do wonders for the overall sprightliness of the bike.
I liked every bit of the review. Its detailed yet crisp. Could you please help me decide on the cycle size we are 5.4 height & wife is 5.3 for boths use?
Yes, for the price, the gear shifting is quite good. It isn’t as smooth as some of the higher end bikes costing 2 lacs and it can’t shift smoothly under a lot of pedalling load. But if you employ proper shifting techniques along with proper pedalling techniques it shifts well. Let me know if you want to know more about pedalling and shifting techniques. I will be happy to help.
I saw the cycle closely, it doesn't say tektro on the disc or on the brake callipers. That's why I said it was unbranded. Btwin tends to switch up parts depending on availability.
@@mayblejoy6846 its a great bike for light touring. If you are planning on carrying very heavy amounts of luggage and travelling over mostly offroad terrain then you may want to look at the riverside 900 since it comes with better wheels.
Its fine for most city climbing involving multiple flyovers. Since the lowest gear ratio is 36t/36t (rear/front) this gives a gear ratio of 1:1. So this means that one the first gear the rear wheel will spin once for each spin of the crank. This is more than enough for most people unless u live in very hilly areas with lots of steep hills like himachal or some hill station.
@@nakhashfaiz3623 if it is a very hilly area you might want to look at the rockrider st 520 because that has even lower gear. Im not sure a city hybrid will serve you well in hilly areas. But ofc, more than gear ratio, the rider’s leg power matters so if you are a strong rider then how low the gears are wont matter a lot.
Both are great bikes but I prefer the Btwin due to its simplicity. The 1x9 drivetrain means u wont have to worry about a front derailleur and a left side shifter, this means when it comes to maintaining the bike, the btwin should be slightly simpler. Also less parts means there is less stuff to break. You could go with either bike since both are very good. But if you ask for my personal recommendation, i would go for the riverside 500.
It probably is, they are going to bring in a new riverside 500 without the btwin branding. Same bike but without btwin written on it. It will just be called riverside 500 from here on.
@@13ballom yes, Decathalon selling this at Rs. 26999. I think it is bit pricey. How do you rate this bike @27k against Firefox road runner pro d plus @ 28.5k.
Hey man, what would you recommend? The riverside 500 or the triban rc 100? Do you think the triban will be significantly faster? And do you think the riverside might be much more durable?
Both bikes will be equally durable since both are aluminum bikes with double wall alloy rims. but the triban will be faster due to its light weight, thinner tyres and aero sitting position and and the riverside will be more comfortable due to the suspension and upright seating posture. Finally the decision comes upon you, would you sacrifice a little speed for comfort? If so then riverside is a good option. If you will sacrifice a little comfort for a lot of speed then triban is a good option. If u liked my content and my reply please consider subscribing.
@@13ballom thanks for the detailed response man! I already have a riverside 50 (single speed) that I use for basic commute purposes and even some long rides and I feel a little held back in terms of pace, so my priority right now is definitely speed. I think I'll pick the triban.
@@ankitpawale7606 yes definitely as long as you practice reasonable caution that should be practiced with any roadbikes. While potholes will not damage the frame or the rims one should avoid them as much as possible since roadbikes don’t have suspension so your body will feel the shock and also if it is not possible to avoid a pothole, go over it slowly. To avoid punctures press ur tyre before each ride, there should be sufficient air in your tyres. try to avoid offroading as much as possible, roadbikes are durable enough to handle some offroading if you dont do stunts and jumps and go over sand and rocks slowly, but thin tyres means you will have less grip in sandy or gravel terrain, so you should ride carefully. Other than that the rc 120 is simply the best roadbike in its price category, you cannot find a better value from any other brand availavle in india. Infact i was considering a triban rc 120 myself but now i have increased my budget and will probably buy the rc 500 or rc 520.
@@13ballom I was confused between the hybrid or triban rc 120....I was going to travel for average 100 km per trip...can you help me with that. Are there good hybrid at range of triban rc 120 or for long rides I should go triban model..? I was more concern about the tyre puncture and the no shock absorbers...in case of triban rc 120. Do you know someone who has the experience of the triban rc 120 so It would solve my confusion.
All bicycles climb hills well. Even single speed cycles that have no gears climb hills well. There are two factors at play when we ask if a bike can climb well. One of them is not very important and the other one is actually the most important part of the answer. Lets get the unimportant part of the bike out of the way. 1- gearing. The bike comes with 36 teeth on the front chainring and 36 on the first gear of the rear cassette. This makes the gear ratio 36÷36=1. This means when u pedal 1 full rotation the rear wheel also turns once when you are on the first gear. This ratio is more than enough to climb long gradual hill climbs. Now the important part of the answer- the engine of the bike. The stronger the engine of the bike, the better the bike will be at climbing. Do you know who the engine of the bike is? It is you. A good rider can climb faster on a single gear cycle than an average rider on the world's best and lightest bicycle. So don't worry about the gearing of the bicycle, enjoy the ride, get fitter and stronger and the bike's capabilities will increase with an increase in your skills and fitness as a rider.
Yeah decathlon is dropping the btwin brand name. The new bicycle that they are launching will be called the riverside 500 instead of btwin riverside 500. It should arrive by the third quarter of this year. It will be the same exact bike but in a different paintjob and without the btwin brand name.
Bought this for my wife, she liked the white with pink stripes... but hell, this is just a walmart-quality bike, or how they say in Europe: Auchan-Bike. Better look at their Rockrider 520, that one is much better quality with SRAM derailleurs and brakes, for the same money.
@@sathyaki he means that the bike is rubbish quality. Which in my experience is untrue. Its very nice for its price. I will be going to Decathlon for getting this fixed. Do you think I should ask for a full replacement given it is a new product or is it something expected from a gear cycle ?
Nice review! Might get this for my sister, the frame looks comfy and accessible due to the curved top tube
Yes, curved top tubes are essential, especially for female riders.
@@13ballom thanks. Really love your articulation! This is the most detailed review on yt
nice review..what are different between BTWIN RIVERSIDE 500 and BTWIN RIVERSIDE 900
Well the 900 has a nicer suspension fork and it has 10 gears at the back instead of 9 and its lowest gear has even more teeth than riverside 500 so climbing gets even esier on it. Thats about it.
Good stuff. Keep'em coming eh. 😎

I have riverside 500, 2015 model. It's been seven years. You are right about speed. I was looking to upgrade it, can you recommend some within the budget of 60K or something for daily commute as well as Tours like Mumbai-Goa vial uphilll road?
Does it operate on Shimano gear.? What's the gear ratio .?
How does it make a difference if there are more chakkar at the front.?
Good review. You are right. The shifter seems confusing
Do the disk brakes need any matainance? Also, are these better than the brakes on Riverside 120?
Also, doesn't the rear spring especially reduce the speed at which we can cruise on this bike? (more so than the front fork)
Finally saw a good review. Do you think these are more good than Firefox rapid 21s .
I personally would take riverside over firefox cuz of the 1x system. Not having a derailleur in the front seriously helps simplify shifting, reduce maintainence and reduce the weight of the bicycle.

Is this bike good enough for daily city rides,?
Cheers!
Hello, where did you buy that mud guard
Suspension is really required? Any troubles in suspension

@@13ballom bro can you suggest me lock for cycle if I park in public?
Is d lock and 120 wire lock frim decathlon enough to secure ?
Hey how is this bike for long uphill journeys?
For city purposes, this bike climbs fine, you wont have problems riding long distances with flyovers and stuff… but if you are thinking of a proper hillclimb bike then this falls short
Is the ergofit Saddle Comfortable enough considering 50 km ride or we need a Gel saddle cover over it?
I didn't have a problem with the saddle as it is, even during longer rides of 60-80km. It was extremely comfortable for me. But don't take my word for it, each person's buttock shape and pelvic dimensions are different. What may be comfortable for me may be uncomfortable for you. So try it out, see if you like the saddle, if you don't like it, you can always change the saddle or add a gel cover or wear cycling shorts with padded chamois.
bro is there any difficulty in applying the rear brakes compared to front .
No, both brakes apply equally well.

Also guys inform to you, if showroom is under 1000mtr then buy products without any expectation. if more than 1000m kindly ignore this.
can you change the fork to rigid?
U absolutely can. If u can find one, try to put a carbon fork on it, really works wonders to dampen road vibrations. If u liked my content consider subscribing.

How efficient does shifter work while changing gears
Is it smooth or worrisome experience?
Yes, for the price, the gear shifting is quite good. It isn’t as smooth as some of the higher end bikes costing 2 lacs and it can’t shift smoothly under a lot of pedalling load. But if you employ proper shifting techniques along with proper pedalling techniques it shifts well. Let me know if you want to know more about pedalling and shifting techniques. How abt it's performance on inclines?
Its fine for most city climbing involving multiple flyovers. Since the lowest gear ratio is 36t/36t (rear/front) this gives a gear ratio of 1:1. So this means that one the first gear the rear wheel will spin once for each spin of the crank. This is more than enough for most people unless u live in very hilly areas with lots of steep hills like himachal or some hill station.
@@13ballom yes even cycles like firefox roadrunner pro d has a gear ratio of 1:1.Btw I am from kerala and it's a very hilly place
Bro I'm confused between Firefox roadrunner pro D and btwin riverside 500.
Plz clear this :)

50 psi front and back when riding on roads in dry conditions. 35 psi in rainy conditions or if i am going offroad.

@@13ballom also is triban rc 120 cycle would be suitable for roads in India

Dose it climb hills well?
