I hate that Apple made the default where it swaps the buttons depending on orientation. As it confuses people to think there’s a problem with cases when there isn’t it makes no sense to me to make the volume up button do the opposite if you have it in landscape over portrait as muscle memory makes you think of that button as the up button so now it’s doing the opposite. Fortunately Apple provided a setting that should be how it is anyway as you shared.

Recent buyer of the combo touch keyboard, using it with my iPad Pro 2018. To be honest, I totally forgot about my laptop. All my work/leisure stuff is being taken care by the iPad and the keyboard. Before buying, I did watch a lot of comparison videos between folio, combo touch and apple keyboard. Price was a big factor for me and secondly the shortcuts are not available on apple keyboard plus I don’t trust magnetic cases.

ESR one is the cheapest option. So now that you have been using the Combo Touch for over an year, whats your opinion now? I would be using it for academic writing & official documenting. Should I go for it? Or rather take the Magic Keyboard?
      Thanks again. Take care.

I wish more cases came with something to keep the Apple Pencil in place when you toss the iPad into a backpack.
The otterbox case has a little flap that just flips over the pencil for storage while the zugu case has some ingenious lips that still allow easy access but protect the pencil from being bumped off. Neither of these cases has a keyboard or trackpad tho.

  • @theoldtechhandheldtinkerer4092
    @theoldtechhandheldtinkerer4092 11 месяцев назад +1

The material on the Combo Touch is actually fabric, backed by plastic. I previously owned the Folio Touch, and my iPad once fell to the ground, causing the fabric to get scuffed, similar to how jeans might. Due to the keyboard on my Folio Touch no longer working after two years of use, I decided to order the Combo Touch. I presume the issue with the Folio Touch lies with the ribbon cable that runs between the case and the non-detachable keyboard, which is likely the weak point. The fact that it's fixed in place means that I end up moving it more frequently while opening and closing the case and switching between modes, especially when I fold the keyboard all the way back to use the tablet mode. This puts strain on the flexible part, making it taut.
The detachable keyboard on the Combo Touch should, in my opinion, extend its lifespan because when I hold the tablet, I'm likely to detach the keyboard since it adds some weight. The only drawback of the Combo Touch compared to the Folio Touch is that there is no way to secure the Apple Pencil during transport. The Folio Touch offers two methods of securing it using its magnetic flap. This flap, which also holds the keyboard closed with a magnet on the bottom/outside side, can secure the pencil by simply placing it in the cutout of the case. When you close the keyboard, the flap that holds the case shut will go over the Apple Pencil and keep it in place. For added security, the flap has two small slits cut into the inside rubber on either side, creating a passage between the rubber and fabric layer. You can slide the pencil through the two slits and then close it, only thing is that the apple pencil is unlikely to charge like this since it most likely won't connect to the wireless charging from the ipad.

The volume button issue is because Apple changes what the buttons do depending on orientation. There’s a setting that lets you disable that and then the case would be correct 100% of the time. Otherwise the case will only be correct if it’s in portrait and will be incorrect if it’s in landscape. There really isn’t a way to solve this outside of just having two buttons without any indicator I guess, and then the buttons would change. Personally, I enable fixed position volume controls so up it always up and down is always down without them swapping based on if using the iPad in landscape or portrait.

Good review, first one that mentions the volume button. Now I understand why at their website you can select the version for the Air 4 but it doesn’t say Air 5. I found another review that noted an issue with connecting some 3rd party usb-c cables, as the hole in the case is narrow, so some connectors were harder to get properly fixed in there. Further it does not recognises keyboard often as you said and it becomes so frustrating. I wasted my money on it and Apple keyboard is the only option to use if someone wants to use a keyboard and enjoys the light weight of ipad.
Further the viewing angle with this keyboard becomes painfull . However I liked it material wise, strength wise, and when it get connected ofcourse it works well but then I lose so much just for the sake of using a cheap option . So keep the above things in mind. I am Selling it on secondhand soon and I am really sad by doing so !!

It is a complaint that I have heard very often, from what I have heard this happens for 2 reasons, the rubber coating on the sides is of poor quality and it has generally poor construction. As I understand it, they have improved this with the latest versions that include a form of embroidery that prevents the rubber from stretching on the speakers and ports. I bought mine and I'm just waiting for it to arrive, I'm hoping for a miracle (constantly taking the iPad out of the rubber case causes it to deteriorate and break faster than usual)

Deal killer is that this case does NOT secure the pencil well. New users should know that the Apple pencil "disappears" all too easily and so there MUST be a way to secure it in place, like how the Logitech Folio case secures it. And why aren't any of the reviewers mentioning whether or not one can use a case on one's lap? I've found myself at lectures and such where there is no desktop to set my iPad on, so one is forced to use one's lap. So it would be really nice to know if that's doable, or if the iPad will tend to fall off one's lap. I know, for instance, that the Apple Magic Keyboard is NOT usable on one's lap because it is so top heavy. It'd be really nice to know about other keyboard cases.

This is rubbish. Bought it yesterday, it worked ok. It stopped working today. It worked for 2 hours, maybe. The iPad simply won't detect it, neither the logitech app on the iPad. The case wasn't removed. Everything was EXACTLY like yesterday, the keyboard just stopped working AT all. I tried rebooting the iPad, tried removing the cover, clean the connectors (it was a brand new iPad Air 5 so not really something that made any change) and putting the cover on the iPad again. Not detected. Returning it today.

A very big fail, which is also present in the Magic Keyboard, is that these overpriced cases don't protect the pencil anymore. I need to carry around the pencil cause Im always taking notes or sketching on the ipad for work, and my 7th generation regular ipad has a case with a keyboard and a place to store the pencil. It all falls apart when you have to charge the 1st gen pencil which is probably the stupidest design ever made by Apple, but when you were not charging the pencil, the old cases used to have a better sense of what a case should do: protect the ipad, and the pencil, which is essentially part of the ipad at this point.

Good keyboard but not for me :
    - you can’t remove it easily like the Magic Keyboard : I use my ipad with the Smart Cover most of the time and when I need the keyboard sometimes, I like to snap it magnetically and instantly.
    - it’s not lapable. With the Magic Keyboard, you have one piece of rigid mini laptop replacement that you can use on the laps and you can hold it one hand too.
These 2 things make me think the Magic Keyboard worth the price difference and has no competitor. No need for a fonction row neither a back light adjustment (it use the sensor of the iPad to automatically adjust on the Magic Keyboard). However, I like to have an usb-c plug on the keyboard for charging.
And the trackpad is better : you can click everywhere, even at the top of it.

I would say the same if it weren't for the absurd price increase, yes, the only advantage is that the magic keyboard generally has better construction and better quality materials. The touch combo starts to fall apart from the edges very quickly.

I too love the Logitech combo touch keyboard. But I sure would like to know the easiest way to separate the keyboard from the screen. As a senior female my hands are not as strong as you young guys. (I also had trouble opening the board but I found a tip to push the key board to the side rather than trying to pry it open with fingernails.) Thanks.

Hey there - it's great you're thinking of how people take feedback when leaving comments! Just some minor advice with things like this though - keep in mind that sometimes folks just don't have time to explore everything possible creatively. This video is a couple years old now, but at the time this was made I was also working a super demanding job before I was able to do this work full time. This video I specifically remember editing at 6 am in a hotel room.
Also, unsolicited advice from strangers is rarely ever taken positively, and is most often just ignored. Often times creative work is very personal, everyone is on their own journey, and there is no right way to do any of this. Telling folks what or how to do something is of little value to anyone, especially without any context.
The best thing you can do here is just to respect the time someone puts into it, take what's of value and ignore the rest. ✌️

£45 used, just now. Bargain. Nothing comes close to this keyboard case.
