  • Bill starts this one off a little squirly. So please excuse his r***rdation. After Bill gets his insults out, we talk about moves that are looked down upon as the dark arts, or subs that people hate to get hit with and start to feel some kind of way. Then we talk about a popular video from Josh Settlage on strength training for grapplers, and we finish up with Chris wearing Jnco Jeans.

Thank you for breaking down that training split and sharing your perspective on appropriate training frequency/duration for the 30+ casual bjj practitioners.

Hey Guys. Love the podcast. Thanks for all the insight and the laughs. You guys do a great job and I look forward to continuing to listen.
I wanted to offer a different perspective on Josh's S and C program than your critique. I have been doing Josh's program(s) for the past six months. He has many different programs and offerings, it's not a one size fits all. I am a 48 year old blue belt. I have been training for just over two years. Three days a week on the mats and two days a week of S and C. The cool thing about Josh's program is that he makes himself readily available via email for all the guys who sign up for his program. So he knows that one of my biggest needs as an older grappler is recovery and so we talk about that via email. What are the things that I specifically need to do to make a few adjustments here and there to the workouts so that I can recover enough to be in good shape when I hit the mats. For example, he has recommended that I don't hit the dead lifts super hard, but ease into them because they are such a taxing exercise. He has a huge emphasis in his program on recovery and how to recovery well. He is fully aware of this as a huge priority for his guys that sign up for his program. I just wanted to write this as a plug for his program because I think there might be more to the story than what you guys present here. In fact, I would be willing to bet that Josh would love to be a guest on your podcast and you guys could ask him these questions directly. He is a really good dude. Super nice guy. And you three would have an amazing discussion I would bet. Thanks for the great podcast and the help that you have given me as a beginner!

Bill's dietary change gives me hope. I'm 33 and I still snack a lot, energy drinks and all. And if it's the 4-5 month period in a year when I smoke weed like a 21 year old who first got their independence, forget about it. Chic-fil-A, greek food, you name it. It's really a problem. Probably at 39 I can find the will power... maybe

Man I hear you! Sounds so similar, but replace weed with all the booze.
The other side feels good amigo. I was always hesitant to start because I'd say, "I'm a grown ass man, why I gotta stop what I like"... I just didn't realize how much more I liked having that stuff in moderation rather than going hard on it.
