The Washington Nationals took him first overall in the 2010 amateur draft. The scout was Mitch Sokol. He became the third-youngest player to be taken first following Tim Foli and Ken Griffey Jr., and the 5th catcher, following Steve Chilcott, Mike Ivie, Danny Goodwin, B.J. Surhoff and Joe Mauer. However, the Nationals announced that they would move him to the outfield, once signed, in order to speed up his arrival in the major leagues.

MLB AVERAGES avg.251, ops.700, obp.314, slg.386 HARPER avg.272, ops.816, obp.351, slg.465 NOT overrated stats speak for themselves hes an ABOVE AVERAGE player and has been since 19

Like Kobe or LeBron in high school or Tom Brady at Michigan. I guarantee you the top comment will be something like “this kid isn’t bad. He might make the NBA today…” guaranteed…

  • @Ladran_Sancho

Funny to read someone state that his swing is not fluid. That kind of distance can only be achieved from a combination of brute strength and nearly-perfect mechanics. His swing is not only explosive, kind of like a whiplash, but it is also a thing of beauty. I hope he can stay focused so we can enjoy that swing for years to come.

Did you not watch the beginning of the video?? This kid is a phenomenon and as long as he can stay healthy he will be one of the greats in the MLB, bar none. It's not just about the bat, look at his swing speed, his mechanics, his arm strength, his opposite field power. Don't hate on the basis that you aren't and will never be as good as he is.

Hitting a baseball is the most difficult regular task in any sport. You may not need to be as physically fit in the cardiovascular sense, but baseball players have some of the most incredible hand eye coordination and reactions of any athletes. And fielding a batted line drive going over 100 mph is clearly harder than stopping a soccer ball.

somebody need to test this kid for steroids. not because he hits home runs but because of the unsportsmanlike way he plays the game. he will do anything to win even cheat. so speaking to that character he will most likely have no problem taking steroids. i watched a game where hit grounded out to first and faked like the ball went off his foot. even faking pain and holding his foot.
used to respect his homerun hitting power. but how can anyone respect a man who plays the game in such a childish sort of way

Kid is an amazing player. I just hope he's ready for a lot of criticism from pretty much everyone who's not a Nats fan. But, no matter who you are, he has talent. May as well enjoy him being a Nat before he goes to the Yankees or Red Sox after his contract is up here.

kids bat speed is amazing. swing is perfect. aluminum bat or not, with those things your gonna be a unbelievable hitter. anyone hear about his 570 foot homerun? and also that he can throw a 95 mph fastball. this kids insane

Also, people don't realize that generally, a baseball is hit farther with a metal bat, but a ball can be hit farther with a wooden bat. The "sweet spot" on a metal bat covers a greater area, hence the greater average distance hit with a metal bat. Although a wooden bat has a smaller "sweet spot", when that spot is hit, the ball will travel farther than it would have off of a metal bat.

expectations are high for this kid, but i think hes well on his way to becoming a superstar. he bats for average and power, hes excellent defensively, hes fast, and has a huge arm. im usually not one to get on the bandwagon for "phenoms" or "potential stardom," but i have no doubt hes gonna be a great player.

Essentially, the conclusion was that the faster batted ball speed produced by the metal bat means the ball will go farther than one hit with wood. A baseball coming off a wood bat at a speed of 98.6 mph will travel 388 feet, whereas one hit with metal at a speed of 106.5 mph will travel more than 400 feet.

No race of people own baseball. It's the amount of dedication, work and heart you are willing hive. Kids in the DR actually train alot with coaches at baseball facilities even if they are really poor. The coaches their make profit of their signing bonuses if they sign when they're 17. Of course natural talent helps alot but if u don't work hard, you're not guna accomplish anything
