My Mtech is good I broke my first one but they replaced it right away and so far so good hell it's still far cheaper than a Trailmaster it's less than a tenth of the price of one in the UK and matches it in every aspect once one sharpens it. The steel is quite soft and even fileable but easily holds a decent edge for cutting wood.
I have other mtechs .they hold an edge as good as 1095 .and its as easy to touch up . They are great knives to take to the woods and beat the shit out of it and not think about breaking a $100.00 or more knife . If you think it will break get 2 and get a kydex sheath .
I'd love to see this MTech offer after a good sharpening. Seems like MTech is stepping up quite a bit. Sharpen the clip unless it's going to be a sometime or dedicated outdoor blade. We've got a Trailmaster and yeah, this is a knockoff but it's all good and this demo showed what this can do even before sharpening. We got the Raptor a while ago and it is great! Handles very well and it came very sharp. From what I just saw, we're getting a few! Sharpen the clip and radius the tip and watch the stabbing ability increase amazingly.
I gave my MTech Vader "Trailmaster" to a knifemaker to sharpen it, he was surprised how good the steel was made, well worth the money. The only difference: it's 2mm thinner than the original TM and therefor, of course, slightly more lightweight :D I am saving up for a real Trailmaster now, the MTech was a good way to find out if I like the blade. (Trailmasters go for 200-230 Euros here, not the usual 130-180 Dollars like in the USA)
I love that you did a review on this knife. I got 2 a while back just for fun cause I liked the way they looked. Like Tac said, out the box it was so dull it wouldn't cut a fart. After sharpening it was kind of ok. It's a nice knife to throw, but I hit a bunch of knots and the tip broke off. The subhilt version of this knife, I think it's the M 20-04, was a lot sharper out of the box and I couldn't totally hate it. Sure $20 could be better spent, but whatever, knives are cool, even some crappy ones that you'll never use for real.
That's my knife right there! Yeah the blade needed plenty of sharpening straight out of the box unfortunately, but with a sharp edge, it is nearly as good as a Trailmaster. I love the huge, heavy and very thick blade that is so strong and feels indestructible.
I brought this knife for testing to a camping trip after sharpening it, as tac says the factory edge it's pretty poopy but it took a polished and durable edge with diamond stones and heavy stropping. Man can this knife baton, I managed to split several loquat logs like nothing and was precise enough to feather the sticks and make a "one log fire". Can't chop for shit though, still, I managed to drop about 4 saplings by using the bend and slice technique I'd say about 3 inches thick, I'm amazed that after being retarded with it and whacking stuff left and right it's edge was still good enough for food prep by the end of the hike.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO I CAN SEE THE REAL POTETIAL OF THIS KNIFE FOR SOME ONE LIKE ME STARTED WHIT THIS OF USING THE SUVIVAL KNIFES IS GOOD AND THANKS AGAINE FOR THE VIDEO OF THE KNIFE SOG THAT WARNING ME OF THA MARK OF KNIFES ARE TRASH COOL
I didn't even know this vid existed, I found under an m tech ka bar knockoff search. Good! I wanted to see a hard test! Tac don't tip toe around testing! Does it feel like Griv Ex? Answered my questions! It is a 440 dull Recon Scout! Trail Master, my bad. I knew he wouldn't pull punches!
Kinda ironic how the blade says 'Designed in USA'. And I have to agree, test the sharpness out of the box but if its dull, resharpen it before testing.
I have this knife and I got it scary sharp, it's probably one of my most sharpest knives. It's pretty solid and durable once it's sharpened. It is my beater by which I mean that I don't mind actually using it out in the woods like a machete and to dig holes with it. But cheap knives have to be used with care because, well, they're cheap!! So if you don't abuse a cheap knife, they will last a very long time. The paint is coming off mine, but it's still sharp and easy to sharpen because I don't put it through hell so there's no chips or rolled edges. I have to sharpen mine by hand because although it has a straight blade, the sharpened edge has a curve but it's not very bad, I don't mind it and I was able to get it super sharp because the factory edge sucked on it.
Nice brother and u should do another katana cutting vid I remember a while back u did a cutting challenge with bush it was sick or just some cutting with ur katanas!
If it did want u wanted at the $20 price point I would rate higher IMO. I've had moderate knives ($100-200 range) that disappointed me for sharpness out of the box. Great vid!
Alot of people say that MTech is garbage, but me, having owned several, can truthfully say that this is not normally the case with Mtechs, actually, for the price you get pretty good quality, unless of course, you get a dud.
LoL I know you weren't referring to my lame ass channel when you said for a guy that likes to play around in his backyard! But I thought the connection was funny! I did catch the pussNprissy hands jab though lol! Great vid bro! I've seen some Mtechs do more than they were designed for but I've never personally had one. I do mostly budget knives but I think I might get me some Mtechs and take a look at them!
Don`t bother testing out of box shaprnes on cheep knifes... You lucky it had edge! :D And if you get a knife dull..you will still sharpen it so no point testing it dull... :) But bro it`s your channel and ofc you decide. Still nice vd, and until the next time we see!
Nice for $20. You still plan on revisiting this one after you sharpen it ? I'm going to order a Mtech Raptor soon. Big beefy bowie knife. 6mm thick. Ahh yeah. WeJuggleKnives tore up his stump of truth with it. I thought you had a review of the Raptor online, guess not. Check it out. I think Prepared Mind101 did a review too. I'll check.
These Cold Steel knockoffs are great value for the money. They should be considered beater knives, the kind you keep in the trunk of your car or the back of your truck, AFTER you give them a proper sharpening. Beat the hell out of them and save your better knives for real emergencies. They are so cheap they are almost disposable.
I have the same knife and I swear if you get one that is part of a good batch and put a nice convex edge on it it performs like a $300 knife or rather chopper........bad edge retention but its mystery 440 and like I said chopper!
i can buy 6 mt 151 s for what i paid for tbe recon scout .i could break every other month for a year . have seen any mt151 fails .seen many trail masters fail .
Do a shoot out vid between this and the trail master!!!

Seems like a great budget alternative to the Trail Master even at today's price of 30 bucks!

For 20 bucks I'd go with the CS GI Tanto. It's a bit smaller, but that thing is a beast of a knife for the price!

Do a budget shootout comparing all $20 and under blade contest.
Did you ever revisit this knife after sharpening? Is it worth the money after TLC, or is the steel too damn soft?
Alot of people say that MTech is garbage, but me, having owned several, can truthfully say that this is not normally the case with Mtechs, actually, for the price you get pretty good quality, unless of course, you get a dud.
Hey Tactical, I have been trying to get my hands on an ole budk nighthawk for a beater knife, but its discontinued. How does this puppy compare?
Great review guys.
vagabond88817 thanks!

Did he make a game of thrones reference at the beginning when he said Ironwood?
Don't know...but Ironwood is an actual wood. Hard but beautiful.
RYAN HUESEMAN no sir
coastiekevink thanks
Anyone know if this will fit the cold steel trailmaster sheath?
Yes, it will. It is, as far as I can tell, a line-for-line copy.
tactical my brother. I do believe that was the dullest knife you've ever tested I think my nerf knife was sharper keep up the good work
Don`t bother testing out of box shaprnes on cheep knifes...
You lucky it had edge! :D

But bro it`s your channel and ofc you decide.

Yeah, i ended up getting a Okc Rtak2 instead. Fantastic blade, right up there with Junglas & gso10 imho.
hows it holding up so far?
The Rtak2 is great. Still razor sharp after months of usage. I did put 2 dings in the blade hitting a dang metal fencing wire i didn't see...
haha you sounded so disappointed when it didn't break the blade. to funny.
Mickro Chip lol
