I'm pretty confident in saying that Evangelion wouldn't exist without Gundam, from a characterization POV. Sure director Anno had a ton of inspiration from Ultraman, Godzilla, and Yamato, but the core of Evangelion, Shinji's internal battle, feels like he took A LOT of note from how Tomino handled Amuro's psychological battles, but just made Eva all about that instead of balancing it with the story and world building like Gundam 0079. This feels even more true after watching Victory Gundam (aired 2 years before Evangelion), where it's even more heavy-handed than 0079 on the ideas of making children fight in a war.
Exactly! Well said! Anno is a very outspoken Gundam fan as well, and there’s several great interviews between him and Tomino. I also imagine his time as an animator on Macross probably helped shaped his creative style.
Transformers is indirectly based on Gundam. The majority of early G1 toys were originally Diaclone toys, which were Gundam inspired. Also, the Decepticons and Unicron were weapons in the G1 cartoon, just they were made by aliens and were sentient.
