- I got this from www.wohlers.org... which has alot of live Meat Puppets audio tracks and the rest of this radio show.
This is a cover done by the Meat Puppets of Marty Robins' Big Iron. It was done, live, in April 1994 on WBAI Radio.
God bless RUclips. Used to be that stuff like this was relegated to some bootleg tape no one you knew had. Now we all can enjoy this 2nd best version of Big Iron.
If we had this music with like original vocals. Would be perfect
Kinda like Kingfish's version too.
I'm a Marty Robbin fan. I thought it was going to be a disaster but man was I wrong. This is a great cover. They kept it original. They must have a lot of respect for Marty Robbins. This is now on my Wild West playlist. Great job guys.
Not sure that they have that much respect for Mr. Marty. They couldn’t figure out his name at the end. They weren’t even close
@@shawndoering6292 They respect the music, same as Marty would.
I love this. Never heard of meat puppets but this was a great first impression.
This version of the song is utterly amazing. You're all insane.
This song is somehow just a big psychic/mental hug to me ❤️
Amazing musicians, one of the best live bands I have ever seen (Denver, 1986).
omg . I never knew this existed. My world just became light
still my favorite cover
im a huge life long Marty Robbins fan and this was awesome - saw Meat Puppets with Blind Melon at Radford U in 94 - wish theyd have done this one.
honestly this was not what I expected a Meat Puppets version of this song to sound like
What a wonderful, melodic, passionate cover this is. I'd only heard of the Meat Puppets before from the Nirvana Unplugged gig, but this is just a beautful, fitting tribute to a great old song.
Damn, I clicked here because I thought it said: Master of Puppets (Marty Robbins Cover)
lmao
I wish this version was in New Vegas.
I keep singing this at work . Makes the day go lol

Love this cover. Thanks for the upload. Meat Puppets Rule. Lollipop in April!!
Very good cover...did not know what to expect but they did the song justice.
I thought I had heard everything... This was a real treat...
Man, I love that instrumental!
00:02 RIP Headphone users
MY GOD THIS IS AN AMAZING COVER IT'S PERFECT. Just what I love about the original song with EXTRA!
very cool cover , not what i expected
Outfuckingstanding!! Thoroughly impressed
Nice!
sweet boys, loved it
Paul Leary told me back then that they had recorded a whole LP worth of Marty but I think he exaggerated...
@fffreddie Agreed. This ranks up there with the Killers rendition of "Ruby" among rock bands paying homage to classic country.
Starting at :07 you can hear a very small clip of the song from the game Out of This World for the snes.
i hope to have at least 100 videos in the playlist for you
Lol kool!!! 2020
Dang, that was sweet!
Wish I could find the full radio show
holy hell that solo!
thats a cool version!
That they even knew this song makes me give them credit...
12 people were shot with the big iron on his hip, big iron on his hiiiip
My beliefs is that the Meat Puppets did it fast, and made it seem like it was a realy country version. Marty Robins was slower than theirs, so seemed more mainstream. Johny Cash's version was slower than Martys, and seemed darker. Over all, I like them all.
The Meat Puppets of Arizona
the marty robbins version is the best. i dig it;
@jonyukon LOL but seriously Lost in Space was a western in space. So yeah it could very well be Will Robinson and the Robot singing this song. I remember when they met a space cowboy who was also lost. I think the guy was Warren Oates who played the space cowboy. Remember how they wore their lasers in their hollywood fast draw holsters?
I agree. I, too, thought this wouldn't go well. Glad I was wrong!!
wow
love this. awesome cover. better than cash, not as good as marty.
You can come close to perfection, Even knowing that you'll never reach it
@@JoJoDude1997 glad you replied to this 6 year old comment. i completely forgot this existed. god what a great song.
@@conedx you wanna remember about it again?
Good.
fucking cool.
@Gresh431 - Farewell, my friend.
THE TED MACK SHOW LIVES!
CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042
@Gresh431 Answer: The fool. The original fool. You.
I hear kurdt in his voice.
how can you possibly say this is a bad cover?
TIME GO CATCH ME... SOME MEAT PUPPETS
-Psycho from Borderlands
12 people made one fatal slip
Greatful Dead should have done this?
@Teh1337bix
Now that's something I'd like to see.
@RIPCB but it could be a tiny bit faster
Marty Robbins I would prefer to sing this song
Talk backwards you do. Yoda you are?
Yeah, Johnny Cash's version is awesome.
@Gresh431 The original fool. still.
that last comment was so dumb, i donno whata saaay?!
kingfish brought me here...
not a bad version, johnny cashs is the best 4 me though
Hmmm... I wish Nirvana had covered it. Cobain would have been awesome screaming this.
This was the same month he died, yikes
@ksboxingfan1 kingfish's version is best in my opinon.
@Gresh431 - Shit.
Who’s still listening in 2023 ? (Yes I’m a time traveler)
I just... no.
It's too upbeat. Too fast, too "happy". This isn't a ho-down. It's about a shootout (granted, guns and violence are awesome) but it'd be like listening to... I don't know... The Meat Puppets do Big Iron, but at twice the speed and a whole lot more cheerfully... I guess is what I'm trying to get across.
Kudos for their taste though.
@RIPCB
Look I'm a pretty big fan of the Man in Black but are you guys serious? Marty Robbins sounds almost... haunting with this song, this is a weak cover, and the tone of Cash's cover is all wrong. It's just way too slow and mournful for a song about finding a bad man and handing him his ass.
What is up with the last minute? You ran through the song and immediately started bull schniznet you did not have to do this at all. Y'all did yourself veritable.
Marty Robbins version is awesome obviously cause he wrote the song and yes Johnny Cash always rocks but Social Distortion and Mike Ness did it BEST!!!
Stick to being the meat puppets! Sounds like Will Robinson and the Robot lost in space somewhere.....
the original is best
I liked it, but the singers voice was horrible, probably why he's a punk singer.
Bad voice is bad.
