I'm amazed I don't see more people riding Impact decks. I'm 90kg and every single non-impact deck I've ever owned I've snapped really easily over the trucks. However, I've been using impact decks now for around 10 years or so and they're the only decks I've never managed to snap, even with heavy lipslides. They're worth their weight in gold and every time I get a non-impact deck I regret it very quickly as they break so fast. I hope they continue making them as they're the only decks I'll use now - super strong, super poppy and hold their snap for aaaages.
Yeah I don't really see them around at all either! They are definitely worth it and the price for them aren't even that much more, they're so much cheaper than the Flight or VX decks too 👌🏼
I got an almost impact light last year and noticed all the same things as you (except I’m not good enough to lipslide to really put it to the test). Love the way it feels, although due to the particularly steep nose and tail on this almost deck I never got comfortable with manual tricks on it, and certain tricks were really hard to figure out the timing on. But once it’s so snappy and sturdy I felt comfortable trying my first ever flip trick off a drop and it did not disappoint there.
Yeah man, the Impact Light range is so good! Oh true, that makes sense. Sometimes it's hard to get used to a more steep or more concave board than you previously rode... That's awesome to hear man!
When I used to skate like 14 years ago (wow such a long time) I tried every single one of those carbon fibre boards. Even the other gimmicks like the element helium deck. I tried to almost uberlight. I tried the dark star armour light. I tried the almost impact support (the ones with disks around the trucks). By far I remember the dark star armour light was the worst, it was expensive, not that strong and felt overpriced because it was heavy and clunky didn’t feel good. The element helium was just okay. It was the deck that just had holes drilled into it lmao. I tried my friends element featherlight I think it was above average. But by far the greatest “gimmick” board I ever tried was the almost impact supports. I never skated another board after them. The reason? Because for some reason they felt so “snappy” like built very very “pop” conducive. I always liked to try pop my tricks high and I felt like the boards were so crisp forever even months later still above average. I remember I used to look at reviews for which skateboard companies had the best pop in their boards. People in forums would discuss how “toy machine is good but their decks are very thin and prone to snapping” and there was much discussion over what was good and what wasn’t. I think the Uber light was good very crisp and snappy but I broke it quickly, maybe had a bad construction. If I get back into skating the first thing I’ll do is try some gimmick boards it was so fun trying different new tech constructions and love that direction skateboarding went. After using almost impact I just couldn’t understand why someone could be pro and enjoy using the standard sub par boards by one of the worse companies with mushy decks that lose pop fast.
Dude, you should try and get back into it! It sounds like you're still interested and ave a lot of knowledge about decks! Yeah dude, it's always fun trying out different board shapes and styles!
i really like dwindle/dsm boards. i'm 6'3 225 and really like the stiffness and durability compared to regular decks, even the resin 7 non-impact boards are stiffer. i have an almost double impact, it has the carbon discs around truck holes on bottom and the whole top layer is carbon fiber or fiberglass. it's probably gonna die from excessive razor tail before i break it. i think the impact light is only 'light' compared to the double impact bc there is less fiber, not compared to regular decks, i don't think they make double impacts anymore. i've noseslid through the bottom ply on a couple dwindle/dsm decks, even not impact ones, and still not sogged out as much as other decks. i really think people sleep on them, but they're my favorite. dsm also presses decks for santa cruz/creature. and superior if you want a good deck at a decent price point.
Yeah dude, they are great! I actually couldn't find any double impacts myself so you might be right in that one 🤔 For some reason that are still very much slept on!
i have a 10 year old almost double impact deck, it's chipped and razor-tailed to death. it's actually just a hair longer than 30" now. i wanted to see what it would take to crack or break it (i'm 6'3, 230) so i've been doing bs boardslides on this dry curb out front. it's worn though 3 plies (i can see the color of the 4th peeking through) and still hasn't cracked or broken. i have about 2 hrs of footage doing the back boards back-to-back-to-back, you could see the wood shavings on the ground, and just will not break. i think i'm just gonna retire it or make risers out of it or something.
helpful video thanks. won a madness cheap on ebay auction had no idea what impact light was. im old school guy and been kinda out of the loop for many years but still skate.
love it . its sam beckett model w the squared tail and nose. like 8.5”! i use for mini ramp w some 80 something softer wheels. it pivots the coping effortlessly
I liked the video dude and I also love (almost) impact light decks. I've had 2 or 3. I also got a Girl deck that has 1 single top layer of "carbon" . Feels pretty much identical. But a question: is the framerate low? Or is an ND filter needed in the sun? Motion looks a lil choppy. Maybe it's your export settings?
I have been consistently snapping decks lately. Any time I do some stairs, it’s a given. It’s so annoying I’m so tired of it. I’m gonna give these impact lights a try, thanks for the video
@@LeonPaxton yeah I like flight decks, I might go back to them - actually had several but I found my self stuck in the powell ecosystem.. flight decks.. dragon wheels.. etc. I’m glad other companies have their own version
I remember when my local skate shop got the titanium trucks that were hollow the first pair they claimed were the lightest and they got in the Uber light and one of my friends got both the Uber light was a 7.5 too so it was the lightest board possible he quit skating and it never got any use out of it I wonder what he did with them I remember it was like a feather but I hated the shape.
i got 3 almost impact boards on sale black friday for $111(total), free shipping. got an 8", 8.375", 8.5". they were supposed to come with free grip but didn't and can't get a reply from company and their listed phone numbers don't work. prob just gonna order some jessup from somewhere else
@@LeonPaxton they actually finally got back to me and sending out the griptape. i guess it's an issue with website, was supposed to be a pop-up for free grip or option to upgrade. so i'm glad i didn't end up ordering any
@@LeonPaxton They certainly have the best graphics! I think dwindle just really cares about the board production, they never press more than one at a time and try lots of different things like the rip slicks, super sap, resin 7 and now impacts are back after being gone for years and years. Not to mention they label the concave level and kick tail steepness which is a plus because a steep kick tail can really through some skaters off like the homie below us mentioned with his almost board. I actually ordered this exact deck last night after watching your videos because my last madness cracked on a front lip then ultimately snapped through the next session on a nollie lip.
Yeah, they are actually sick! exactly, Single press is amazing and the wood & shape is always on point 👌🏼 Oh damn! Let me know how the impact light board goes then dude 👍🏼
