- Timoci Tavatavanawai is the Fijian powerhouse who has quickly become the most destructive ball carrier in Rugby. The man is an absolute nightmare to tackle with his combination of power and leg drive and just the physique which is has hard as rock.
It was awesome to get the man they call Jim on the share his journey from growing up in a Fijian village to playing for Tasman Mako, Moana Pacifica and the Highlanders. He talks about the importance of family and the Fijian community support and how important it is to give back to the community. Jim also talks about a range of topics including his key to bulking, his mother's surprise visit, to watch him play, why he hasn't played for Fiji yet, the role of religion in his life, and his future goals.
I'm so glad to be able to get Jim on What a Lad, he's a great character of our game who has an inspiring story and I hope this episode inspires many especially young Fijians out there to chase their dreams. What a pod.. and what a lad.. secretly hope Tivoci ends up with Fiji as the ABs have tons of good wingers as is and hes a truly world class winger who should be getting plenty of minutes but whatever happens is truly deserved.
Also ive got the song sorted (adjusted to the Waisake Naholo tune!)

Appreciate it 🙌
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jim Tavatavanawai especially the beautiful moment with your Mum. I still haven't worked out how you went from a village in Fiji with no telly - to Burnside Ave in Blenheim looking for a classroom!! Sounds a hard case but must have been quite startling at the time??!!
Glad it worked out for you.
On-to-it on the sober driving bit and staying off the turps yourself and for being always thankful. 10/10
--- Good luck for the future.
Great advice too.
Haha pretty crazy how it all happened. Loving your feedback on the episodes 🙏
Him and Aumua were bloody good together. If they had stayed with Moana one more year this year. They would have done well.
