Showing the immense amount of emotion from invalidation is a very good interpretation from a victim of bullying's perspective. Thankfully that person found empathetic people instead of a bunch of gaughty teenagers who think they are better than everyone else. It's often hard to come by anyone that understanding and harder to keep friends who share your interests and views

It's also a good example of rejection-sensitive dysphoria! People who have it will often react just as strongly to percieved, imagined, or anticipated rejection/ridicule as anyone else would react to actually being rejected.

For everyone with a noticeable flaw, imperfection, disability, etc., a little story. I went to a church for a short time that had a woman going who had an enormous goiter on her neck. The first few times I ever saw her, that's all I could see, was that enormous goiter. About the fourth or fifth time I saw her, I actually started to notice the person and not the goiter. She turned out to be a very nice and interesting person. Whatever your outward flaws, they eventually become irrelevant to the people around you, so quit fretting over them.

I love how the animation shows the kid's internal viewpoint with visuals - at first the scar on his(?) face is his own focus, dominating to such a point has to try to hide it with his ear, (tbh I had thought at first it was shame at not being able to see and took me a bit to realize that the glasses were an attempt to "cover it up" as it were, instead of a "now I can actually see" thing) and at the end it doesn't even show the scar at all because it has become nothing to him anymore, just part of his face such that it disappears off his mind, and likewise disappears for us.
So even though he didn't take the pair of glasses at the end, he got a new pair of glasses to look through - a different perspective. Wonderful animation and good emotional drive through it.

This was really super fantastic! It made me cry and I love how well each character is defined simply by their actions. The only thing I'm a little confused and very intrigued by (and this in no way takes away from the story and its message) is that the antlered (elk/deer/moose?) shopkeeper's imperfection is a missing antler. Typically, they shed every year, so a broken antler wouldn't usually be a problem. They'd just grow a new set of antlers in the place of the old broken ones and be done with it. Perhaps they have an injury or disability that interferes with the normal process and when one of their antlers broke it was permanent damage, hence why they had been fitted out with a prosthetic antler and why they were so kind and understanding of the little dog. I get that it's an animation about anthropomorphic animals, and will, by its nature, be unrealistic, but it really got my theory brain going. I really love how sweet and kind the shopkeeper is and how they know exactly what to do to help the dog become more confident and find friends. I just want to know more about them.

While i never lost anything physically, i did grow up under life-threatening kidney issues while i was a baby, then appendicitis when i was a kid. While i cant remember the memories as well or at all from this time, i can still feel the feelings from it. Despite this, i wouldnt consider these things “tragic” by any means despite the years of genuine pain they caused (the kidney issues especially since that was a 2 year long process.) They made me into who i am now, and made me into a person who i can confidently say is kind and caring.
Everyone gets really hard periods in their lives, but you can still look at them positively and be happy for who you are now or who you will become.

however, now that I'm in school, I've come to terms with the fact that I'll wear glasses until I'm 18. why under 18? maybe I'll do laser correction, and improve my vision. and now, when I watch your short film, I almost cry.
and I've only recently come to terms with the fact that I wear glasses.

This is so sweet. ❤ I have various scars from surgeries and injuries. When I was young, I got a gash in my arm from broken glass. I got stitches but there's still a very noticeable scar, even now almost 30 years later. My mom was trying to help me not be self-conscious about my scar. It's an oval shape with three lines on both sides from the stitches. She told me to pretend that it's a bug tattoo. From then on, I referred to it as my big tattoo and I still do to this day. That's when I learned how to own my scars. I make up lore in my head for what that scar could be from. My thyroidectomy scar that looks like my neck was slit is _actually_ from a battle with some ninjas. The scar I got from dropping a real (but thankfully dull) sword on my foot while I was volunteering at a joust is _actually_ from getting stabbed by a knight in a war. There are a few where the story behind the scar is enough to make it a badge of honor on its own. The scars I got from fighting off a dog that was attacking my puppy are still just from defending my puppy from the bigger dog, because I somehow found physical strength that I didn't know I had to be able to hold it off.
Inventing a fictional story to go with my scars helps so much for almost all of them, and I have a lot. I've always been very injury-prone and scars don't heal too well on my skin due to hEDS.

I like how at the end, his scar was gone. I think that is beautiful because it can show that it doesn’t matter to him anymore (at least, not in a bad way).

I watched this again after a year, and I almost didn’t notice the second time! It’s only at the very very end, after he gives up the thing he hid behind. I feel that that says something more as well.

We all have scars. They don’t make us less. They make us distinct. So don’t let it be a weight on your shoulder.

The protagonist sure shares strong personality traits with the Virgin from VvC, but this is well done.
Even the Stag is a supportive Chad. Good job!
