The best scene in the film and it got an audience chuckle was when Ian McKellen started drinking water like a real cat. If you ever seen a real cat drink any liquids they use the very tip of their small tongues and it's so cute. He did that and I just started to laugh as did others in the theater.

I think it suffers from a lack of ability to suspend belief. On stage you watch a bunch of people in leotards made up vaguely like anthropic cats and marvel out how the dancers move like cats and suspend your disbelief. That's a whole lot harder when confronted with bad CGI at the cinema.

Rejoice, musical lovers! You now have something to go absolutely nutty-bonkers at in terms of good-natured heckling and a shared experience. For "Cats" is midnight viewings of "the Rocky Horror Picture Show" for a new generation. It is the audience tossing cutlery during special screenings of "the Room". It is watching that one nerdy bespectacled lad in "Trolls 2" absolutely waste a dramatic line.
It is time for ironic appreciation, and we couldn't have gotten a better gift.

Oh, to be an invisible presence at the pitch meeting which got a studio to set aside millions to give this project life. Well, it did not work for two fictional doctors (Frankenstein and Moreau) and it certainly did not work for those who are even further removed from reality...studio executives. At least this film's existence made reading Tweets fun again.
