Just wanted to let everyone know, they got so busy last night that they ran out of dough not even 3 hours after this video aired. One of the most spectacular pies I’ve ever had. I live 25 minutes away and never knew about this place.
Been eating delucias over 40yrs and I've had pizza in the areas that actually make good pizza NJ.. NYC.. boston...Connecticut... Chicago...philly in my opinion nobody beats delucias
I live 30 mins away and now I have to try it
@@torresthemonster stan chitches is N@#!×$ pizza compared to Delucias..u probably love dominos u 🤡🐠🤡
@@walnutz8743 why disrespect him tho ...it's pizza ...and you want the truth ..people couldn't handle if better pizza was served in Alabama just like people don't wanna hear Cali doesn't have the best weed ..Florida doesn't have the best citrus..etc .. on that note I hope you get to enjoy that pizza for 40 more years ..let's be positive and uplift each other not go at each other for taste buds ..invite him over to try it and discuss why he feels the other is better
@@torresthemonster I used to live in Bound Brook and I’ve never even heard of that place. Guess I’m gonna have to go back and try that too.
My dad grew up 2 minutes down this same street. He used to drive me up there when I was a kid just to get this pizza, we continued the tradition until he passed away a few weeks after our last visit there when I was 24. I told him there was a shot Dave could rate it and we both wanted to know the score. Hope he’s watching to see that 9.4. Hell of a review. Best pizza in the world.
Who was your father, I'm from there as well
Great story!! Great memories!!
Great story. I'm sure your dad would be proud of his hometown pizza place and ,of course, of who you have become.
Your dad is smiling right now kid
This Made me tear up
This is kinda weird, but I feel like Dave has perfected the balance of being famous. Maybe if you spot him in a grocery store, nobody knows who tf he is. But if you see him outside a local pizza joint holding a large box, you know it's him. Pizza makes people happy and the vibe that it puts off make Dave and his fans that much nicer to each other. I think it's cool that when Dave interacts with a fan, it's like interacting with a friend that he's known his whole life. Everyone involved is just so laid back and down to Earth in these videos. Good pizza, good reviews, good people. Good stuff, Dave 👍

I can’t believe we’ve got a 9.4 without a tour of the entire facility and extended interview with every family member. That caught me so off guard I got literal goosebumps
Right if you get over an 8.5 I think you deserve some extra love.
Goosebumps from a pizza review? Fuckin guppies never fail to amaze me
I think it's probably just because they don't need it, already well known.
I've met the owner and he even gave me a tour of the oven when I went lol
He probably tried and they were just like "nah we got pizzas to make, keep it movin" true NJ people.
Brick oven, long pizza paddles, been around since 1917 and the place looks like it hasn't changed much over the decades. All signs of an outstanding pizza place. Dave nailed this one.
The only thing that changed they used to have an arcade in the corner.. pole position
Surely you mean pizza sticks? 😂
@@hanktheblesseddeejay they're actually called peels which i never knew.. I actually asked Christian Delucia Friday and he told me lol
When you find a winning formula, it's best to not change it. I mean I much prefer a old timey joint like this over a fancy place that uses decor and atmosphere as a way to charge more money
And last but not least, generic pizza box
I added 4 hours to my trip from Roanoke Va. to Syracuse NY to try this pizza. It did not disappoint. Like Dave, this is my kind of pizza and it is the best I have had. Looking forward to have another 9+ rated pizza. And yes I’ll drive wayyyy out there to get it! Thank you DeLucia’s Pizza for making great pizza!
Sorrycuse! Nice!
Gotta hit O’Scugnizzo in Utica sometime if you’re in Syracuse

What a day to remember. One of the highest rated pizzas of all time.
Never forget where I was. Special day
I was wondering that myself. I can’t remember the last time he gave a score over a 9.0. Must be amazing!
As soon as I looked at it I knew she was Gona be a good 1
@@michaelmora Was just thinking the same thing! Been awhile!
@@michaelmora he gave Luigi's in Brooklyn a 9.3 not that long ago, although most people can think that it wasn't deserving of that score and that he gave it such a high review because of the history and the story behind it.
This place however is one of the top rated places in the country, and I knew he was going to go in the nines on it when he eventually got around to reviewing it.
I literally drove 2 hours for this pizza…. Best pizza I ever tasted in my life it was definitely WORTHA THE TRIP. 9.4 everybody knows the rules
All of Raritan has known for 70 years that this is it

the fade away jumper of pizza reviews
Lol true
The pizza actually sucks so...
@@wolfplayer7815does it really? I plan on going up there on a trip and trying it and don’t want to be disappointed lol
@@KodyPoehler I probably should give it another try since I haven't had it since 2018 but when I did eat it, it was nothing special. A lot of the locals were complaining about it back then too because the owners son took over and he started to cut corners but maybe he fixed his mistakes since it has been six years.
One of favorite places to work!!! Christian has been a close family friend my entire life. My mom worked for Allie and Buddy when she was in high school and then Christian gave me a job when I was in high school! BEST PIZZA IVE HAD IN MY LIFE!! I made the drive from Manhattan, and you are correct. That is one delicious pizza!
Before he started about it being a best pizza contender, I read it on his face and said “he’s going 9.4”. I don’t know why a pizza review makes me feel joy for someone else, but Delucias nailed it and I hope their business sees a 5000% increase.
When he looks that serious and doesn't say much about how good it is at first, you know it is off the charts. I was thinking 9.3, but he dropped the 9.4. That place is about to explode even more than they already have.
They really don't need the attention but I'm sure they love the score
i didn't see it goin' that high! i was like whoa. definitely looks worthy of it!
I live down the street of here and i LOVE their pizza. Ive always loved it and i get it once a week. and they went out of stock today and had to close.
I was there a few hours back. They were out of stock
Was thinking he was gonna drop an 8.9 and leave us all disappointed
You said that in Patagonia Font
I am with you, was totally expecting an 8.9
What's up Eddie, big fan!
I was think 8.8 when he opened the box. Unreal
I guessed 8.7 lol
I worked then lived in Raritan from 1977 to 1983. Joe Delucia was my landlord for almost 3 years of that. The house was across the street on the corner of Liman & Somerset. It and the other houses on that side of Limon, were torn down to widen the street. It looks like the pizza hasn't changed. It was fantastic then. I live in Colorado now. Haven't even found a decent pizza here.
I was going to suggest a place,my friend just told me they tore it down 25 years ago and there's an auto parts store there now. It was worth a two hour drive for me when I lived in Colorado.
Try big bills NY. It’s not in the 9a but I’d say a solid 7.8-8.1 depending on your likes.
If you are near Parker, you should try Colonna’s. The best pizza in the area. Not a 9, but there is nothing like that in CO, but better than Big Bills

I'm biased as i live around the corner and have been enjoying that molten lava for 16 years now.. The fact the owner wasn't out looking to video bomb etc...you know this review on the pizza itself is as unbiased as they come. Well deserved DeLucia's, and Raritan, also home of hero John Basilone(born in 1916 go figure!) What i can tell any of our future visitors is you can walk into this place with a six pack , sit down in an unassuming but warm wood paneled small dining room and enjoy a truly unique slice of Jersey pizza history with your friends /family. Then you can walk over to our John Basilone memorial a block away and walk along our historic river canal while in town.

It wasn’t the best I ever had but it was fantastic and definitely worth driving for. 9.4 is a perfect score for this. But de Lorenzo tomato pies was rated 9.2 but it’s a 9.9 in my book.
Of all these reviews, De Lorenzo’s is the one I want to try.
From the moment he opened that box we all knew this was square in his wheelhouse. When he bit the crust and my monitor shook from the crunch, we all knew we'd be in the 9's...
Him not finishing the slice threw me off, but i guess it was too hot. If he finished the slice i would of went into the 9's. Outstanding looking pizza though.
he gives well done Pizza's an automatic score of over 8 , reality is any place is able to make a well done pizza if they just leave it in a little longer, maybe places should keep that in mind if they know he is picking it up

Anytime Prez gives a 9.1+, he should go inside and talk to the people. Kind of like when a performer or comedian killed it and Carson waved them over.
Nah, his rating says it all.
I read the news article about this review. The owner, Christian, was visiting family 30 minutes away. He didn't know Dave was coming that day.
I used to go here all the time with my family before barstool covered it. We would be the only people there while we ate. I love this place and the pizza is amazing. I guess it's a little sad that we lost our underground pizza gem and we can't go as often because it's packed, but good for DeLucias! It's great for them to get business.
What a toxic take. You both take the 'I used to eat there before it was cool' hipster idiot vibe, and you mix it with the absolute asshole notion of 'I don't want the world to eat this amazing craftmanship (and therefore supporting the business) because it disturbs MY peace'. People like you are everything that is wrong with this world. Shame on you.
This pizza is looking so spectacular!! Damn!!! That was one of the best ever seen on this channel!!
is it still just as busy now?? I live about 45 minutes from Raritan, and always think about going, but i'd be pissed if i did a 90 minute round trip just to see a " sold out" sign out front.
@@ronyeahright9536 We've called recently, and I think the current situation is that everyone is ordering out, so they have times where they don't let you order to take it out because it's so backed up. But I think it's possible to get a table there, it doesn't sound like too many people sit down to eat there anymore, it's just that their take out orders are crazy
That’s the bittersweet thing about a hidden gem you know about being discovered. You’re happy for the owners getting that bag, but dang does it suck when it’s crowded and you gotta wait. Just not as special. But god bless em. Everyone should get to enjoy greatness and a salud to the owners making money hand over fist. They deserve it.
I have been driving past DeLucia's since the 70's - my uncle lives down the road in Hillsborough and tried it when we moved to the area 7 years ago - incredible pizza worth an hour drive. To keep up with demand, DeLucia and his cook and manager, Steve Fraser, are working a lot more.
“A lot of pizza shops have 3-4 cooks, but me and Steve are the only two guys who know how to do what we need to do inside that oven,” DeLucia said. “We would never hire anyone else to cook, but hiring people to take some of the heavy lifting off our shoulders is going to have to be a must.”
DeLucia said he used to get to the pizzeria at 7:30 a.m., take an hour lunch break, and get home before 8 p.m. Now, he’s arriving at 6:30 a.m., skipping a break and getting home at 9:30 p.m.
dang... thats why some places actually dont want a michelin star. they cant serve their regular customers anymore.
@@ndubb100 Michelin stars can ruin some great restaurants. There’s a story about a very small ramen shop in Japan run by a 78 year old man that a Michelin reviewer stopped in. It was very old, classic, and he liked the ramen so much he called another reviewer to try it so they could give it a star. 2 years later the entire design was renovated with more seating because it became so busy. They had to institute a 10 minute rule at seats because it was so busy. This rule was necessary because customers were willing to wait in line for an entire day to try it. But unfortunately it killed the business and they had to close 2 years after they got a Michelin star. If they never got it it would probably being going strong to this day.

The stick that they use to unload and retrieve the pizza is called a pizza peel. Some peels are made of metal, but the old school, real-deal-pizza-peel is made of wood. 9.4 is a massive score. I was thinking in the 8.9 - 9.1 range. This pizza clearly fucks.
I had this pizza and he wasn’t wrong about the 9.4 rating. First time I went here I reached the place at 14 minutes after opening time and they were completely sold out and said we’d have to come back at 4pm.

Never watched a "fresh" 9.4 review. And I'm 4 hours late. The crunch, cheesy yet no flop, barely moving even when he held it sideways. Looked amazing. DeLucia's is about to blow up.
You don’t have to blow it up
I'm from Texas, but I had this pizza back in 2008. It was the best I ever had. I wish they would franchise because nothing comes close to this in Texas.
@@jamesr8584 but our Tex Mex and BBQ is untouchable ;)
I was there today for lunch, never saw a crowd like that in my life waiting outside, looked like they were giving away pizza..
@@jamesr8584 you cant franchise a 100 year old brick oven

I did the same thing when I started watching ❤️😂❤️
I’m going to drive 8 hours from Toronto in 2 weeks for this pizza!
Hey man, Im from there too. Let me know if its worth it to go
Hope you called in the order last year. I live 20 mins away and wont even bother trying to get a pie there after this review
@@Quesoverga You can usually get a frozen DeLucia's pie at Quick Check across the street or at the Liquor Barn on Old York Road. In my opinion, their pie is even better reheated.
@@tomflynn924 I was unaware of that. Thank you!
@@Quesoverga you're welcome
Right after this review, took the whole family for the three hour road trip to De Lucia’s. Was absolutely spectacular pizza. The guy running it is awesome. Gave us a tour of the ovens, told us the whole story of the pizzeria’s history, and told us how blessed they were they Dave came by but that demand is insane. We do these road trips frequently as a family based around Dave’s reviews and De Lucia’s and Sally’s are our favorites so far. Looking forward to a near-term trip to Brooklyn for Di Fara’s and Lucali.
Got to hit Luigi's too while you're there!
@@rand0m0nium ahh good call - will do. Just came back from Jersey - for Father’s Day we did a quick trip up there for DeLorenzo’s and Conte’s. DeLorenzo was phenomenal - some of the best flavor of any pizza I’ve had - although their crust may have been too crispy for me. Just a preference thing but I actually like a little bit of chewy/crisp mix. Conte’s was very good, but not spectacular.
@@TRENLORD
He gave Best pizza in Brooklyn a very high score too.
lmao
Update: I tried calling in for an hour today and line busy all the time, I think they got a ton of customers tonight from this review.
Update: I went back again this weekend and they had already stopped taking orders the remainder of the night… I arrived at 5pm.
I’ll try again in a few weeks, third times the charm

BEEN SAYIN IT THIS WHOLE TIME!!! THANK YOU DAVE FOR FINALLY VISITING DELUCIAS!!
People always talk about "NY pizza" but after living here most of my life, I can confidently say that NJ has the best pizza in the entire country.
you forgot about new haven, connecticut
NJ has two NFL teams in the state and both are called NY. No one is ever gonna talk about NJ pizza. It's considered NY pizza.
When people say NY style that’s all they mean , when talking about NY pizza it’s the TriState area pizza ..
A pizza place should prank him by secretly baking his frozen one bite pizza and serving it to him to see how he actually rates it. Chances are that’ll never happen but that’d be interesting
Brilliant 😂
Frozen is on a different scale.
Raritan is well known for a lot of things. DeLucia's, Espo's, St. Anne's Feast. But for the locals, it will always be the home town of Manilla John Basilone.
Gotta get your pizzelles at the Festa!
Salute to Medal Of Honor winner John Basilone, USMC, WWII
Da pizza a freet
Really looking forward to the tourists stopping showing up because of this review - getting a pie has been a royal bitch since the review. Glad to see Christian and family getting the success they deserve, but man do I look forward to being able to get a pizza weekly, rather than just 'when I manage to get a call in when they open'.
be a little more selfish
@@tiptopanteater7713 gosh I know, how horrible of me to want to be able to eat from the pizza place I've been eating from weekly for years. What a horrible person I am.
You remind me of the toolbags on yelp who keep posting negative reviews because they had to wait hours for a pie.
Im from the area and lived 5 years on Brooklyn. Deluca's is my favorite pizza of all time.
I went as soon as you posted this and it was soooo busy, the guy making the pizzas is so cool and humble and the pizza was great, they truly deserve this
Owner is a nice guy, first time I ever went I was talking to him about Dave and he was telling me how hopeful he was that he would come. He even showed me the pizza oven in the back and was telling me the history.
Awesome
I knew it was gonna be highly rated just from the thumbnail. If a pizza looks like that, it’s gonna taste incredible.
You know that pie was perfectly made when your mouth starts watering viewing it through a screen! Fantastic job. Definitely stopping by there on my way to CT.
CT is no slouch with pizza either. check out new haven
@@data9594 I know that's right. I'm from CT. very familiar with pizza town
Did you end up trying it? If so, how did it compare with Pepe's, Sally's, Modern etc?
That crunch reverberated through my soul.
That crunch was louder than the fake crunch he uses on his own pizza!
electric through my ears
This looks like a pizza worth riding 50 miles to. Time for a long distance adventure 🚲
Local update: There has been a line around the block and the owner had to take the phone off the hook. They will make 6 months worth of pizza in January alone if it keeps up.
Do you by chance have another update? How's the wait looking like now?
@@HumzaNabi we ate there tonight, pizza is delicious. the crisp is pretty unreal. had to make a reservation, otherwise no issues.
The "secret" is out! Now I'm not going to be able to get in for the next month 😂
and your are going to pay more if you do
Went there at 3pm today and had to come back @ 9pm to pick up the pizza lol. Also, they're only taking walk in orders. Business is great, but it must suck for the locals who were used to being able to just grab a good pie without all the hassle.
He said it wasn’t going to make it into the 9s but when I heard that crunch, it was all over then. 9.4 is stupid high, will definitely have to try it out one day.
He never said it wasn't going to be in the 9s..
Am I the only one that gets kind of emotional when Dave scores a pizza in the nines?
You need to go outside
Yes
Yes for sure
Maybe go hug your cat. The pizza is a 7.9 at best. Crust has zero flavour
Yes because you are gay.
Me and my wife drove an hour and 40 minutes just to try this place and I promise you it's definitely worth it. Greatest pizza I've ever had in my life.
I almost fell off my chair when he said 9.4 such calm demeanor throughout the entire review this is why I watch Dave's pizza reviews absolutely excellent. The thing that's great is when he says 9.4 you know he means it I can't remember the last time he gave a review over 9. KEEP ROCKIN DAVE!
That's my spot been eating it over 40yrs!!! Good job Dave for coming out to the country lol
I’m flying up from Texas to see my dad in Pennsylvania, and the day I booked my ticket he told me we’re getting DeLucia’s. Absolutely pumped.
It's cool no one came out to creep Dave or try to have an "influencing" conversation. Pizza speaks for itself
Holy cow what an iconic spot. God bless america
Just went here yesterday. Amazing! We couldn't get any pizza on Friday they were sold out for the 4 hour window we had! Got there before they opened on Saturday... Easter weekend .. line out of the door. It was worth every minute. Dave is right we drove 3 hours and it was worth every mile! And the people there are still so thankful!
Tried to order a pizza yesterday and today and apparently they’re sold out until Sunday lol must be delicious
My jaw actually did drop lol Super rare score, the pizza looks delicious!
The part where he finally focuses on the pizza and suddenly smiles cracks me up everytime, lol.
Unreal score. Can't believe it got higher than Luigis in Brooklyn. Wished we could have seen more of the inside and the owners story.
They just pass it down through the generations. The Oven is the secret.
I envy people who live within a stones throw of gems like this.
Yea. Here in Texas, our pizza sucks no matter the city. Might as well just go with the chain stores or a frozen cause there isn’t anything worth a crap else.
its really not that good.
