    That judge ruling was brutal. Big props to your opponent with that professional level of sportsmanship. Props to you too for appealing the ruling. That's integrity befitting a high level competitor. Class acts all around. These things happen (and worse) at competitive events, everyone that’s grinded through them knows. Ggs! 🙌

    This is the best overdub for an in-person game I have ever seen. Your narration is top-tier and makes up the difference in the shrouded information that in-person games has compared to mtgo games. Other high quality live game recorders don’t follow so closely and I get lost in the course of the game.
    This is an amazing new content slice that you should consider going forward. It is great seeing you play in person to show just another aspect of your mastery in the game. Great, great, great content.

      I'd like to second this and recommend doing some more coverage like this for other people's games. You may not have the amount of insight since it won't be your games, but I'd enjoy watching your coverage anyway, I'm sure.
      Also props for appealing that judge call to try to make it more fair than how it ended up turning out. Bummer that such as mall mistake can be a big difference. Would have been nice to see that game finished normally.

    I’m a regular viewer of your channel and love all the eternal format stuff. I like the stability of your content in its regularity of themes and appearance. That said, I’ve really liked the fact the you’ve tried some alternative occasional features (like deep dives, special guests, and cube) and this is no exception. I’d say keep doing what you’re good at but that includes adding in something a bit different from time to time.
    Good stuff. Thanks Bosh. And shoutout to Anzi D as well.

    You covered the whole judge ruling before on Eternal Glory and on here so while its not new, it does warrant repeating. That interaction with the fetch/Thalia shows that you're a class act and is good advice for players new to paper. Be honest with the judge, communicate what happened, don't spin a narrative, just say things from your perspective. And ofc the appeal to head judge on your opp's behalf was good sportsmanship.

      I understand that the information of the second card was hidden to the opponent, but what it was would have theoretically been caught with the hand cam so it was identifiable. I know the logistics are hard, but I think revealing that card with the hand cam, then randomizing the deck and stacking it appropriately, then backing all the way up to tapped misty in play, would have been a better solution than not backing up at all.

    • @dannydubs86
      @dannydubs86 4 месяца назад +13

      @@nate1004 While that makes sense, it's generally better to have the same set of rules for feature matches and non-feature matches. In unrecorded games, what you described isn't an option. So for the sake of the consistency of rules across all players, judges want to treat feature matches as if the game is not being recorded whenever possible.

      @Stop_using_stupid_sources 4 месяца назад +1

      @@dannydubs86I think there is a flaw in that argument because imo you'll always have better conditions for games that are recorded. The judges seem more aware and I guess that if it would have been the decider in the final they would've used the footage to rectify the situation. Same goes for cheating where you get a lot safer game by being on cam. It's not like someone would get away with cheating on cam because he should be treated as if the footage didn't exist. So mistakes should be resolved with the footage if posible.

    • @Dracomandriuthus
      @Dracomandriuthus 4 месяца назад +2

      @@Stop_using_stupid_sources there's a difference for cheating vs play mistakes.
      Play mistakes happen naturally and will be a part of a judges interactions with the players as the game goes on.
      Cheating is intentional, and proof of cheating of any kind is enough to issue the DQ

    The judge call at the end was my friend and the ruling makes sense. We thought that it was strange how it played out considering the brainstormed card could be either a good card you want to keep or a card you want to shuffle. Considering you put a fetch land on top to fetch we can assume you want to fetch a bad card away. This means you want to fetch to get a different card on top most likely. The fact that the ruling was in Bosh’s favor seemed strange in that context. You could say I’m biased because he is my friend but it does seem weird and not correct in the way it was ruled.

    This was fascinating - as much for 'it's a 1/1 skeleton with a dice on it because we can't use our own tokens' as everything else. Thanks for sharing it, Brian, and don't worry about the background noise in that one bit. I could still follow the action and your commentary.
    I don't play as much Magic as you, let alone competitive Magic, but that judge ruling took me all the way back to the Planar Chaos prerelease where I illegally played Fury Charm on my Calciderm, allowing it to trample in for the win. My opponent, Dave (sorry Dave), scooped, shuffling up his cards, then we realised my mistake and called a judge (sorry Ioan). Unfortunately, with everything shuffled up and Dave not being sure what was in his hand, there was no way to fix the game state (really sorry Dave). I really wish I hadn't won that game. I still feel guilty about it the best part of 20 years later.
    So - again, speaking as someone who doesn't play any competitive Magic, who was not in your exact situation etc. - I guess I'm curious, why play the Fatal Push after getting a ruling you disagree with? Isn't that kind of a feelbad move for you, never mind your opponent?
    Apologies if you've discussed your decision to play the Push on Eternal Glory. You can say so and I'll go listen. And genuinely I'm not having a go. Is it as simple as 'two wrongs don't make a right'? Or showing you properly accept the ruling?

    • @christiansmith5047
      @christiansmith5047 4 месяца назад

      It's a high-level competition, and everyone is expected to play to the best of their ability to win. At an FNM or a pre-release event, the prize is a stack of boosters and maybe a promo from the newest set. I'm not trying to diminish how important or awesome smaller events are, but there is a completely different decorum and etiquette when it comes to competitive rules enforcement level events. I think bosh maintained his integrity by appealing the ruling and trying his best to decline any advantage because of his mistake. But once the final ruling was made despite his best efforts to change it, he (and his opponent) are still expected to play to win to the best of their ability.

    • @christopherlundgren1700
      @christopherlundgren1700 4 месяца назад +1

      Accidentally cheating at Pre-releases feels terrible when you realize what you did, even though it's low stakes and it's so easy to do because people are seeing cards for the first time. During a Shadows Over Innistrad 2HG game, my teammate had The Gitrog Monster, and we drew some extra cards because we didn't realize it says "one or more lands" instead of triggering separately for each one. And during War of the Spark I completely read it wrong and thought the -3 let you return an artifact, creature, or enchantment to your hand FROM YOUR GRAVEYARD. I felt extra bad about that one 'cause how tf did I come with that?

Basically you can't miss a ring trigger unless you aknowledge it, but because they haven't missed it. You have no legal target and you can't try to make an illegal target to angel shoot like that. basically, if it was there trigger, and it said target player created a token and they made a token, you can 100% say they missed the trigger then proceede to oath. but because it's your trigger and you've illegally targetted them while they had protection without aknowledgement of the trigger being missed you're just simply cheating. @Boshnroll i know this "might" seem like a grey area, where your just trying to demonstrate a miss trigger, but because the trigger simply hasn't been missed. You simply have no valid target for your orchard. At the time of triggering it, things like ring and storm don't have to be verbalized to not be missed. It would be similar to you with your own chalice on 1 trying to resolve a bolt through it, by hoping your opponent doesn't notice your chalice on 1.

    • @chaosky9

    Here’s my question… at GP San Antonio, which I consider to be high stakes as well, I accidentally spilled 3 of an opponents cards while shuffling his deck before round one. I received a warning. To “make it right” I showed him three random cards from my deck bc I felt so bad. Why didn’t you remedy the situation by not casting the fatal push to make things fair? It seems like the right thing to do. I’m not hating…I’m just curious. I’d feel so bad that I can’t help but think that’s the proper thing to do.

      Because the ruling had already resolved my fetch which complicated getting revolt. It’s not that easy. And nobody is required to add vigilante rulings on top of the head judge’s in an event.

    The thing with trying to hand your opponent a spirit to then call a missed trigger looks like angle shooting from the outside. But rule are rules.
    However, would it work both ways for you?
    So if we assume you play a one ring and for some reason you dont want the protection, can you just not announce the trigger? That would sound fair to me if it works both ways.
    I mean just talking real, if one player plays a the one ring in a top8 vintage situation, both players absolutely know that it gives pro everything on etb. The "handing him a spirit" part as i understand it only serves as evidence he didnt announce a trigger. But the event that causes him not to have pro-everything is not announcing the trigger, right? The spirit is only serving as evidence for it?
    So if he intentionally not announces a trigger if its benefitial to him, is that valid? Because intention is subjective but the rule seem to allow this move? And him not announcing the trigger (wether intentional or not) cn be proven on video or by the judges, right?
    Its a crazy world to me :D

      Forgetting a mandatory trigger allows the opponent to decide if they want it to happen or not.
      “Forgetting” a mandatory trigger on your card because it’s currently not beneficial to you is cheating.
      It’s weird sorcery from the outside, but this is basic trigger policy from the Infraction Procedure Guide, which is a document competitive players should be familiar with.

      @@BoshNRoll not argueing about the rules, they are generally great^^
      Though im generally a friend of just accepting things that are obvious to everyone. However this obviously cant be a rule, the rule must be strict. Translating this to other sports/games i played it would possibly or even probably considered bad sportsmenship to capitalize on a formal error instead of just going „mate you forgot to announce the trigger, we‘re good“ if you clearly caught it. But thats all fair game if thats common practice by everyone.
      I dont get the part of the „handing of the spirit“ though.
      If the rules are as strict, couldnt you just go „you did not announce the trigger, you therefore have no protection“? Like after a switching of phases?
