    This video has set me on the part of not being frustrated and discouraged when writing with frosting. Learning letter parts is a game changer for me. Thanks you for sharing ❤

      Glad it was helpful! Writing in frosting can be tricky and it takes some practice. It sounds like you've made a big step towards upping your skills! I always recommend doing some practicing on a parchment lined tray. as well It will help you build your confidence before you start working on cakes! Good luck with the piping and decorating!

    Oh my goodness!!! This has been super fabulous to watch. I have been working on this for a while...I always try to write too fast and end up with a mess. Learning new things all the time and this helped tremendously. Thank you for this.

    Thank you for these amazing videos! I am a complete beginner and I’m learning so much just from watching! A quick question on this tutorial: I’m 6’ and a standard countertop is a little low for me when I’m piping decorations, much less lettering. It appears you are seated while you’re writing. Do you recommend that for close work like lettering?

      so glad you are finding our videos helpful! I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum height wise but I deal with some of the same issues, just that most things are too tall for me. I find getting yourself as close to the work as possible is best. I like to rest my forearms on the table when piping for extra stability when needed. If sitting helps you should do it. I also make use of adjustable stools when I can so I can get myself in the best.most natural position. I try to avoid stooping or hunching over if possible since it can be hard on the back. Likewise you can use turn tables, butcher blocks and even overturned cake pans to help raise your work up and make things easier for you for any tasks that are easier to complete standing. Hope this helps!

    Really helpful! Great as a refresher course too. Thank you.
    What tip do you recommend to use as a standard writing tip? What about scroll designs?

    • @CakeDecoratingSchool
      @CakeDecoratingSchool  Год назад

      You are so welcome! I don't know if I have a standard size for either of those because it depends a bit on what you are doing and how big you want to details to be. For writing I tend. to use 2, 3 or 4's but I do go larger if needed or called for design wise( think chunky. bubble letters or a large cake) I use the smaller tips if I need to write more or an working on a smaller area. For the most part if I'm doing a simple message on a 8 in or larger cake I'll probably go for the #4. I typically use a 4 , 5 or 7 for scrolls since I'm trying to cover some area and I like the look of bolder lines there. But that is a bit more personal preference you can always use larger tips if you want a heavier look to the lines or smaller if you want it to be a fine delicate detail. Hope this helps!

      @@CakeDecoratingSchool Thanks for the helpful reply. I have been trying to use a #1 because I want the delicate details but its hard to control and and slight shaking shows up really badly. I was thinking of getting a projector to help me but not sure if thats the answer. Maybe I need to use the larger tip or maybe my hands just arent steady enough

    • @CakeDecoratingSchool
      @CakeDecoratingSchool  Год назад

      you are welcome! Try giving a larger tip a try. Sometimes if you have to squeeze hard with a small tip it can produce some shakes since you are straining. If you think they shaking is from straining using a larger tip and slowing down a bit can help you get rid of some of those wiggles in your lines and give you a smoother look. Once you've built up more hand strength you can give the smaller numbers a try again and just remember to take your time as you work piping fast means squeezing harder and can cause strain, If you've just got a bit of a shake while piping and you don't feel like your straining try moving around your set up so you can brace your forearm or hand for support while you are working to help support it and that should help some. I like resting my forearm on the edge of my table/tray/turntable if possible while piping and then using my left hand to help support and guide my bag(I'm right handed). that really helps to reduce the work the muscles in your dominate hand and arm will have to do and can reduce the shaking. hope this helps!

      we don't have printable practice. sheets for this lesson. this is from an old live class that we did that we saved and uploaded here. We are however, currently working on a new intermediate level certificate that we will be adding to our online school in jan of 2025 that will include printable practice template for writing including letter parts, letters and common phrases and will be included as part of the yearly membership.

      I believe I'm using a number 3 round tip, but you can use any size you want Larger round tips will give you bigger letters and smaller numbers are great for finer lines. So you should pick a tip based on what you want your writing to look like. For practice I generally like #3 or 4.
