As annoying as some players grunting is (including hers), I’ve never bought the “hindrance” argument. Grunting is not a hindrance! It’s never been something I’ve paid attention while playing. You’re tracking the ball before you hit it, and tracking your opponent’s shot after you hit it. The grunts they are making are predictable with the timing so it’s not like some random person shouting out from the stands in the middle of a rally. The only time your opponent can really be a verbal hindrance is if they yelled out in the middle of your service motion, or said something to stop play in the middle of a rally (ie challenging a shot). Those are hindrances, but grunting is not.

Also to blame is raquet technology. I playe d with a Dunlop Maxply. There is no way you could sit back 12 feet from the baseline and drive that ball past someone at net no matter who is holding that raquet
Better than Serena was only if you only saw the last 5 years of her career. This gal is excellent but how many times has she gone up against a 120mph serve or had her own first serve returned harder than the serve was hit. Great players make you play the entire match under a ton of pressure. Thats my perspective having played competitively (D1, 4 years ATP mostly doubles) Of course it does not mean I’m right. Cheers
