- Exploring some metal tones in the EVH 5150iii 50w. Dressed a little different from the usual grey $6 Target shirt. I love my skateboarding and just found out one of the greats, Jeff Grosso passed recently at 51. I loved watching his Loveletters to Skateboarding. That was my era and he was one of the good ones.

Fun fact: in Stranger Things, Eddie Munson's guitar tone actually came from an EVH 5150 despite using a Fender Princeton Reverb in the film
You nailed the Slayer tone, Justice was really close, all you needed was a shit ton of compression. You were close on Puppets but it needed some more mids. All in all just amazing. Thank you.
Simon Rix i think he was spot on ha
I immediately said the same thing
which one was the Slayer tone? a lot were close. Just wondering??
I Watch LambChopper Since 2012 when i was only 16 years, today i'm 25 Years Old
Learned Many Things Watching Your Videos
Thanks Lamb
great video!
His videos are always great. I really like your videos too, Phillip Knight.
I love my 5150 but i can never get these tones without an eq in the loop. I love this guy btw.
The tone you got at the end with the gain turned down sounded awesome! 🤘
Thanks, mate! What lovely tone and nice playing! My 5150 III 6L6 50w head and matching cab will be here later today! It's been ages since I've had a proper tube amp.
Man Just seeing you play is brilliant
this man is SO LUCKY, he gets to play with a lot awesome hardware. his wife even bought him a Jackson guitar! how cool is that? wish my wife buy me something like that
I want to specifically thank you for showing what it sounds like scooped. I can't find any reviewer that will ever turn the mids below halfway. I know people bash cutting the mids but sometimes a little scoop is called for.
I just ordered the 50 Stealth. Can't wait it's been way too long since I had a 5150 and this will be my first EVH. Also,I really enjoy your videos!
Dude I'm finally about to get that exact amp and I am 48 years old and I've been waiting an EVH 5150 iii for over a decade 🤘🤘. Needless to say that I am very excited.your tones were fantastic and your playing is also fantastic 🤘🤘💯. Greetings from south alabama USA
I’m 42 and I just got mine yesterday I’ve been waiting for years to get one also best amp I’ve ever had
@@fish86stang I’m 40 and been wanting it for ages too and just got mine yesterday. Lol cheers
Im 14 and saving up
Yup! 45 here and finally ordered from Sweetwater! Now just staring out the window for the next few days lol
Awesome vid as always. Thanks for all you do man.
...and just another great LAMB-CHOPPIN' video from the MASTER!!!
Spirit in Black is my favorite Slayer song, thank you sir for playing it. I got the EVH 5150 Pedal and it's awesome.
I had never read your bio or heard you speak. I assumed you were English for whatever reason. I was wrong as you are an Aussie, but you already knew that. Thanks for making great videos and being my back up visual aid when I am trying to figure out riffs. RIP Jeff Grosso.
That was my first "real" amp. I really loved it, but ended up trading it for a JVM 410H. I've now switched to the Synergy stuff, but really hope they eventually do a module of this amp. Great demo!
For high gain, multi channel heads, you really increase your options with a good EQ pedal. The MXR M108S ($130) is 10 bands with Vol (pre) AND Gain (post) boosts. Perfect for the taming the EVH wolf and roar.
Nice Man. Brutal sound. Great Ampli.
Thank you so much for this video!!! Very awesome!!! Great tone!!!
Super cool that you mentioned Green so in the description. My era of skating too!!!
Grosso (fuck you autocorrect)
I had that amp. Blue channel is great when it is boosted. Very dynamic with high clarity .
Dude Thank you - great Job!!!! Looking forward to playing one
Amazing video thanks so much can’t wait to try the settings
great review. looking at this amp to put on top of my new emperor cab, also props to Grosso. one of the goats.
Perfectly timed vid. Looking to drop drop cash on one of these (after I test drive it). Best vid ive seen that really shows what the blue channel sounds like.
sounds killer dude. I love the EVH and I love Marshalls too lol
LOVE LOVE LOVE this channel
Enjoy your vids, very helpful 🤘🏻cheers from Melbourne
Just pre ordered the new 5150 iconic and now watching this! 🤘😎
Spot on Justice tone. Love it mate.
Great riff choices mate🤘
The tone you get around 8:00 sounds dope as fuck
almost 100k,great job dude!
Could you just do an hour loop riffing metal tones. I'd drive around listening to it. So good.
We share the same music interest for sure. That’s what I grew up playing I’m 49
I have an EVH and I just bought a Charvel. This is a great tone.
Great overview. I have the EL34 version and I am curious to see how it sounds with your EQ settings. Thanks for all you do. Cheers and be safe mate!
Great chugging tones there lamby, nice one mate. Theres a lot of great metal tones from that 5150 and the cab sounds sweet too. I picked up the black EVH 212 cab with celly G12H 30 anniversary speakers which are sounding great too. EVH are making some killer gear
Aw yeah boi this is the one I've been waiting for
Yeah me too
Great tone, I really like your playing , it's very clean, you should do a tutorial on proper string muting, that's the problem I've got when playing
Agreed. Right when I heard that my head and ears stood up like a dog being called to play fetch.
Thanks LambChopper for those blue channel settings, using right now in my 5153 \m/
Great amps I’ve had 3 of them so far the 100 watt EL34s seems to be the best for me ,great vid again
Neil, what do they ship with? 6L6 or el 34? I used to think I knew the difference, but I have been hearing some great amps on here lately and have been proven wrong with my perceptions.
Pete Thoresen there are 6l6 versions and eL34 ,many years ago I realised people associated el34 amps with marshall and 6l6 with Mesa or American amps...I get that however don’t judge an amp by its power tubes is what I learned
On mine I leave the red channel gain at 2. It makes a nice, crunchy rhythm sound which is darker than the blue channel. If I want to use the red channel to play leads, i step on a boost pedal.
I have this AMP and im more than happy :) You can make So meny crushing tones from it :) Nice video and playing \m/
cool i was thinking on buying a EVH SOUNDS GOOD
Great stuff lamb. Do your next megadeth video with this ,that will be awesome
Great playing and amp
Appreciate you sharing brother.
Great sound...Great tone the best amp ever
Lovin it man. I have the same amp and only play on channel 3 (red) as I like the option of going to clean and it's way too soft otherwise. I'll be stealing some of those tones for rhythm!
sounding really sick!
Dude that tone is unreal! But of course sounds better when someone can actually play like you brother lol great video!
Love the 5150 series gear!
looking forward to the boogie mark series metal sounds video. 🤘🤘
I like the EVH a lot, I had the 100w version and sold it and buy the 100 stealth and is just perfect. The 100w is more versatile because has less gain.
Sick tone😠🤘
7:36 yes, that does sound awesome!
Good stuff man
sounds great!!!!!!!!
This dude is just destroying it ,great sound and great playing ! A very great video with a great guitar player !
Wish you made Kemper profiles. Killer tone man...
Mate, this is a great vid. How have I not seen your channel before? Sub’d 👍
Hey thanks mate, welcome 👊🏻
Yes to the Slayer 🤟 great job thanks for the great tunes yes to the Metallica 🤟 keep up the good work
Want one so bad! Current setup is Bugera JCM clone with a Fortin grind though Carvin 4x12 with G12-75
On the newer models with shared EQ I’d consider running an OD (make the low end flubby and add it) but without that the clean would suck.
Fuck yea!!!! .....that's how i use mine brother!.... I turn the gain on 2-3 on the red channel...resonance all the way up, eqs round noon, sounds freaking amazing, plus all my tubes in switched to JJ's..... Thanks for a great video man!.... Love your channel brother!.... You gotta get the Hetfield vultura v guitar brother, I've noticed you like v guitars!...
Thanks mate, I don’t like 24.75 scale necks. They feel like my kids guitars. I don’t really want any new guitars. I think 6 electrics, 1 bass and an acoustic is enough. I’d have to sell one to make room. If I did it’d prob be a Jackson king V or Duplantier Charvel.
I'm just enjoying the iconic thrash tunes
Ive always found the evh/5150 amps do Metallica tones really well
I just ordered the 2.0 version, I had a first generation and regrettably traded for a Flying V a few years back. I will say this though, get the EVH cab for it, some people think V30s sound better with this amp but I disagree. The EVH 2x12 has the G12H 30th Anniverary Celestion speakers which have better balance for this amp.
What kind of speakers are in the EVH cab? I've been looking to pick one of these up and this plus your other video have pretty much sealed the deal. You and I pay a lot of the same thrash stuff and this thing sounds killer for all of it!
Great tone. I use the 100-watt EVH which I wish I would have bought the 50 watt. Angel Black is going to record our 2nd record and I'm going to use the EVH. I appreciate your help u gave me some ideas. Thank you Mike
What’s wrong with the 100
Sounded awesome! Have you played the EVH LBX 15w head? If so how do they compare?
0:59 my ears perked right t/f up!!! Heck yeah Tornado of Souls!!
Very cool amps, guitars and riffs.
Do you know the 6505Mh?
How does it compares with the EVH?
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
So I’ve decided on getting the amp! Question on the cabinet though, do you think I should stick with the matching cab or get something with vintage 30s?
Could you do a cover or a lesson on Slaughtered Pantera?
Best pantera song ever!
@@TimSchuchman definitely my favorite Pantera track, it’s so visceral
How to play "Ashes in your mouth" Please
I love this song and your cover
Yeah!! I love it
Yeah I'm learning the Marty Friedman solos to that MASTERPIECE right now actually. That song is perfect!! 👌
There at 6:10 that Metalica is more what it sounds tuned into, and other metal..but I guess the classic VH tone could be dialed in especially if thru a 4x12.
So you skate too? Thats fcking awesome
Great stuff. Is your voice mic picking up room sound?
That amp sounds very different thru v30's. More gain thru the EVH cabs.
If I'm right, Machine head used a modified 5150 to record "Burn my Eyes"
I think it was a modded Peavey 5150 block letter which is the predecessor to the 6505 and EVH 5150iii but I could be wrong.
They did, was the Peavey version. But they're very very similar.
Hi mate that sounds great could you just run through your signal chain and also what are you running through the front and through the effects loop if applicable
Just bought one of these amps for Metallica and Machine Head tones amongst others and its great
Maldita sea, que bien suena!!!!!!
Maybe somebody can help me. If 1 use a overdrive of distortion pedal on the green channel it gives a clipping sound more fuzz like. While on the blue channel it just pushes the gain further.
I use a Pinnacle distortion and Catalingbread DLS.
With the Pinnacle, it supposed to give me a good distortion sound on the green channel, instead i get the clipping. Is that normal?
Hey you got a good touch, congrats. One thing that strikes me is the difference in the tone with your demonstration and the ones i see from a couple of others ? I was wondering if you added any extra gear in the middle ? Just checked to see any listing of the gears in charge, none found. Thought I ought to ask yourself. That would be further enlightening if you kindly make clear what gears exactly you r using? By the way, I love your taste and hey you do rock !!
Hey thanks mate. I used no effects. Not even post processing eq or compression. How it sounds on the video is pretty close to what I hear in person. Ive done several other demos with this amp that might help decide
Hey man!. For a band which one would you recommend? 5150 or dsl20
Request... Show how Van Halen's Dancing in the Street is played and how the sound/tone is replicated.
Great job like always ! Out of those 3 amps in the room which one is your favorite ?
Depends which day you ask me really. They all have their moments. All 3 are awesome prob lean toward the 5150 for versatility.
How would you compare this to your mark 5? Been thinking about picking up one of these
This video actually helped me a lot to find my own setup ! Mids actually are the key for good Slayer stuffs. How would you setup the knob for a Pantera style tone ? I know that you love cowboy from hell riffs ;). Thanks dude !
I would start on the red channel winding the gain right back and scoop the mids adding teen and bass. You’ll also need a an eq in the front to boost mids back up. That would be my starting point
@@LambChopper678 Thanks dude I'll try that ;)
Have you ever made a shootout video of your different rigs?
Do you use an attenuator? Think it’s needed on these high gain amps?
Damn.... where did you find a Charvel with EMG pickups?
great review but the amp seems better for rock, its missing that big mesa plus OD sound on much of the examples
If you have good clean pickups like Lundgred M8s the red channel is tight and useable . Lundgred pick ups help make the highest gain amps ultra tight . It’s not amps with too much gain . It’s just most pick ups have too much nasty over tones
It's an amazing amp. However, I still prefer Peavey versions because the gain is more controllable for me.
Do the evh cabs sound good with the peavey 6505mh?
Thanks for the video, man! What kind of pedal board is that?
Thanks mate, I made it out of timber. Seems to do the job for me
Awesome video I have a EL34 version and it sounds great as well. Have you tried to make a Dime Tone with this amp?. I'd love to check It out.
Look up his eq pedals settings, I don't think you could get that tone easily.
Getting a Dime tone wouldn't be easy through most amps lol. That's a hard one to conquer.
