And Tom's drumming just sends the riff aggression way over the top. Great vid!
Gary is an absolute legend. Spoke with him after the Shovel Headed Tour stop here in Toronto (50 fans in Lee's Palace...) what a great guy. The Dukes era is savage stuff and their Wacken performance is straight homicide. The Peavey XXX did him justice, what an amp. I have 3 of 'em. Thank you for this Mr. Lamb, great playing !
Mate, you nailed em all, awesome tone. Exodus for me has always and will be the best thrash band ever to exist… Keep up the great content Cheers from Melbourne..🤟
Great Video mate, Exodus are my favourite Thrash band outside the big 4, its tight but Rob Dukes is probably my favourite screamer for them, I've always loved the riffs at the beginning of Only Death Decides from the Impact album, Top band, really good to see Rick Hunolt join them on stage from time to time, keep the videos coming Mr Chopper!!!...Respect mate...
Couldn't agree more with your praise of Andy Sneap; his work on the modern Testament albums is nothing short of amazing and the Overkill record he worked on sounds phenomenal!
Verbal Razors is my all time favorite Exodus song! An angry as fuck, riffalicious opus with those trade off solos at the end. All my old friends were staunch Bonded By Blood/Paul Baloff lovers and had no tolerance for Fabulous Disaster. Difference in taste I guess. Not dissing Bonded By Blood, it's just that Fabulous Disaster was my introduction to Exodus. Back in '89, I was given a tape that had Fabulous Disaster on one side and DRI 4 of A Kind on the other. I wore the Exodus side out of course. Couldn't stop listening to it. Riffs on top of riffs!
Gary really turned it on and turned into a riff monster from hell. Kirk not so much. If Metallica went with Gary back in the day I’d still be listening to Metallica today and they’d still be relevant today. IMO.
@@benben-sl7hi Dude i have to disagree with you about your last statement... More than half of metal comunnity didn't liked the sound direction Metallica has aimed for the last 30 years, it's not inspirational like their 4 albums... and that's ok! But to say that Metallica is not relevant nowdays is like saying IPhone dosen't sell well anymore because Job's is dead and they have been doing the same cellphone for a decade but only the size is getting bigger. Sure, they are only revelant because of their first 5 albuns and some things from both Load and Reload era but dosen't change the fact that they still have a HUGE impact in Metal in general
Gary Holt is a beast. Listening to you play Pleasures of the Flesh it dawned on me that this must be the riff that Lamb of God heard and said “i know what our sound should be”
Gary Holt is a top 5 metal guitarist for me. Killer tone for rhythm and lead, awesome riff writer, great performer. Fucking love that dude. Eagerly anticipating new Exodus next year.
Great video mate!! Loving these Top 10 of a certain band and all the info you share at the start! Please keep doing these style vids!! Loved when you popped up at 10:06 haha. Hope you're well! Thanks!
FUN FACT: I was over in Saudi Arabia in 1988 when I was in the Air Force & I went to a mall that had a music store, just wall-to-wall cassette tapes... the crazy thing is that they were ALL bootleg! Technically, I guess there was no distribution back then, but they did it anyway! Hahaha I bought a cassette tape of Exodus 'Bonded by Blood', but due to the obscenity laws over there regarding nudity, someone had taken a marker & drawn clothes on the 2 babies on the cover!! 😅 And if there was room left on the cassette after the actual songs, they'd just randomly throw on more songs from who knows what band just to fill it up! It was hilarious! I got an Iron Maiden album that had 'Women in Uniform', but it sounded like it was playing at half-speed, just that one song, the rest of the album was fine. Crazy!!
When I was getting into metal some years ago, the intro riff to “A Lesson in Violence” hit me like a ton of bricks and woke me up from my sonic slumber.
Loved this!!! Man, we could be brothers from different mothers... LOL The title track from 'Pleasures of the Flesh' has such a brutal but almost exotic-sounding riff. I know what you mean about just wanting to keep playing a riff over & over, 'Blacklist' is certainly one of those.
Great selection! I had a Bernie Rico Jr Vixen Body/Neck blank I got for 500 bucks I always planned on getting finished and set up just like Gary's but I traded it a while back.
Thanks for the vid. Gary's a riff MONSTER! Your right they are super fun to play and just want to keep nudging that volume knob up. 😁 Don't forget to throw a para eq in font and boost the mids some. He's been using one for a long time. I think after whatever od he's using. Keep it up!!
Absolutely love Exodus, great riff choices 😎🤘 Almost every album they'd ever put out is awesome imo but Fabolous Disaster is the one for me, followed by Bonded 👌
btw - my personal favorite all time riffs from Exodus are in the song "Only death decides" - specially that mid riff when the song pauses. They played that song in 2001 on T.O.T.T. gig in SF and it was awesome.
Surprised not to see Bonded by Blood and Piranha here. If I have to choose one from those played in the video I would go for Blacklist, such an amazing and badass riff
Gary Holt is the reason I own 3 Vixens, love those. As for fave exodus riffs, mine would have to be Changing of the guard, 44 magnum opus and downfall. But really you can’t go wrong with any of them 🔥
You looking for a guitar student haha. I'm in Townsville too and have been watching your videos for abit now and only just checked your about and was shocked to see you live here too

Damn I could watch you play exodus riffs all day, good shit man. Think you might do other riff videos like this? I know we would love it. Keep shredding🤘🤘🤘
I really like these top 10 riffs videos. Do you have a video about your pedalboard? What pedals do you use and which ones turned out to be essential for you?
Great riffing man! My favorite is Chemi-Kill off of Pleasures Of The Flesh. First Exodus album I bought at the same record store that I bought Testament The New Order at. lol But no doubt Blacklist is my favorite track off of Tempo Of The Damned. I saw that tour here in Phoenix, Az back 2004 at a small bar. I even met the band that day, such cool down to earth guys!
The fast riff after the first solo in Heads They Win (Tails you Lose) is the best riff ever written, hands down. It would be awesome if you could learn it by ear and play it.

Can't really go wrong with any Gary Holt or Exodus riffs. The middle riff from Iconoclasm would have to be my favorite tho.
the slow or the fast one?
The Exhibits are my favorites. There aren't any bad songs on them.
Every riff in Dethamphetamine is killer

Metallica poached the wrong guitarist from Exodus.
To think that Kirk taught the basic stuff to Gary

Exodus never really clicked with me until Tempo. They are consistently good, and Gary's riffs are smokin'.
Just got a Boss Katana Artist combo and your Atrocity patch you made is mind blowing. Going to be my main rhythm patch from here on out.
That clean clinical chug is super rad , wowzer!
Amazing riffs, perfect band and a really good display from you. Nanking is my absolutely favourite song.

The riff right after the solos on “The Toxic Waltz” is still one of my favorite riffs to play. So fucking heavy
