Vocalist Dan Tompkins comments on the video: "As musicians we've never had 'overnight' success; we've all worked tirelessly for well over a decade and committed to many personal sacrifices to exist as a band. Survival is a hard hitting song about the struggles we've encountered along the way but specifically and especially about the strain and burden of being apart from our loved ones to whom we are forever beholden for their steadfast and loving support. The idea behind our video represents that struggle for Survival and the burning desire to be reunited with our families after long periods of absence"
With the stunning Derbyshire landscape as a backdrop ‘Survival’ was filmed & directed by Pele Newell (www.pelenewell.com ) he said “Working with TesseracT has been great, it's nice to work with people that are so passionate about what they do.” On the video concept he comments”The video is set in the near future where Imani (The actors) has been framed. Central are hunting him down as they have already captured his family. He's on a constant battle to find them without being captured himself.”

00:35 - 01:30 their absolutely best intro.
The bass sound is HUGE.
It always is
+Michele Perrone Amos is such a natural on bass :O
Cave Of Fun Absolutely!
+Cave Of Fun I don't know him but I'd say it's mostly hard work. Tons of it.
Huge Grant :)
This makes me cry... Amazing!
Such wonderful songwriting.
siete incredibili
at first I wasnt a huge fan of the new stuff but I love it and think its some of the best they have
too hyped
Whoa! Sounding amazing!
okay, let's see if the hate finds me. call me biased, but if you havent heard skyharbor's first lp to guiding lights. look it up. then go listen to one and then listen to this. vocal progression my friends, what Dan was to what he is now is fucking incredible. why do peopld insist on mentioning altered state in a discussion about Dan. Ashe is Ashe, heard him live has a lovely voice but cant actually sing 100 percent of his vocals on stage. Dan is hands down the better musician and with that being said, polaris is on very safe hands. This song is literally just a safe landing so we had music to listen to before the release. sot tight.
+Harry Rowe But Dan can't sing his own vocals either though...
Hahahahahahahahah. Oh lord. Ahhh yeah he can. Check his youtube channel. :) lots of good live vocal stuff there.
I want those glasses
I was going to pre-order the album, but after listening to these couple of songs, I think i'll pass and wait to hear the whole album. IMO, it's not bad, but it's not great either. Nothing really stands out to me so far. Guess i'll be getting Sikth's new EP, or STS V.
Tosin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fucking single coil madness
I could be gay just for Dan.
His
Fucking
Voice.
Jesus Christ
That chorus is probably the most beautiful thing i've ever heard.
No disrespect mate, but ye need to listen to more music.
@@eqskolkata4460 No disrespect mate but I believe musical taste is extremly indivudual. In other words you don’t have my ears. Six years has passed sense I wrote that comment and this chorus is still in my top 10 favourites of all time.
@@freackyvice Top 10 still makes sense, mate. \m/
@@eqskolkata4460 no disrespect mate, but stfu
@@toasty862 None taken bruv. At least from cheap toasties.
Lyrics;
Will I disappear with the vision of tomorrow
Will I disappear?
Will I disappear with the vision of tomorrow
Will I disappear until I can’t feel the light
Will I disappear?
With the memory of the sorrow
Will I disappear?
Until I can’t feel the light
Ten years of hope have passed, you felt alone
And pictured life a little differently
And people say that life has just begun
You waited patiently, a lotus in the sun
You radiate from me in luminescent light
And people say that life has just begun
When you're not a part of me I feel dead inside
Disturbed - will I disappear with the vision of tomorrow
Until I can’t feel the light
Disturbed - and I get the feeling I’ve been here before
I'm the abandoner
Ten years of sorrow pass and no pleasure in the sun
You couldn’t cope in all honesty
The secrets of the past will come undone
Seasons of change elapse on an omen's trust
Faithfully until the day you die
And people say the journey’s just begun
When you're not a part of me, I feel dead inside
Disturbed - will I disappear with the vision of tomorrow
Or will I fall?
Disturbed - and I get the feeling I’ve been here before
Disturbed - will I disappear with the vision of tomorrow
Or will I fall?
Disturbed - and I get the feeling I’ve been here before
I'm the abandoner
+Sean Martin Great work! Maybe 2nd part of the song starts with "Ten years of sorrow pass(ed) and no pleasure..."?
+Sean Martin I think it's Destroyed instead of Disturbed maybe, I'm not sure, great work tho :D
+Aki Ra it sounds more like "distraught". i could be wrong :P
+Falko Suiker i agree on Distraught
+Sean Martin im hearing him say disturbed and destroyed at diff times
Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes.
YES.
Amazing, fucking amazing.
super sick! wish there was more of dat first groove tho :D
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
+Ryan Merica Ryan Merica, gtfo of all the prog metal vids on RUclips! :P

That snare_
+ATMOSPHERES Im glad you guys are following along side Tesseract, bought your album and you guys Ruleeeeeee!!!!!
+ATMOSPHERES That kick with that fretless. Love ur green bullet usage. If you haven't already, check Joe's Garage, especially the last 10mins, it's got pretty good musicians.
that snare:
much sample
many EQ

wow
+crymzynplague It might be. Anyway, it fits the music perfectly. Job well done_
+crymzynplague go back to 70s
This is fucking amazing!
Sick song guys. Really cool that you got Tosin to cameo in the music video too!!
+Brendon stacey Wait every black person ISN'T Tosin?
+Hemsfeld Custardale I'm impressed by his fluency in Valyrian.
+Hemsfeld Custardale Hahahaha
+TheRamenMaster thanks. now i want ramen.
+Hemsfeld Custardale I thought it was Haddaway.
I needed 5 years to discover this song. I have finally arrived!
Great song, really. In my opinion, it's quite different from what TesseracT has written before, in it's structure. Survival has a bit more of a typical "Verse-chorus"-structure than their other material. The rest of it strikes me as more progressive in that manner. Of course, this still strikes me with those gorgeous TesseracT-vibes I've grown to love, and it's mind blowing and unique. :)
I thinks that's what throws people off with the way the song is structured. I love it, but it leaves me wondering how it would sound without the "verse-chorus" structure. I had to critique but I feel this song would have a lot more emotion if it was structured differently. But then again Tesseract writes what they want to write, and that's why I respect them.
listen again, the first part never returns.. same vocal line but totally different meters.. then verse chorus, middle section verse chorus... still nothing conventional about it. conventional is a,b,a,b,c,b... this is a,b,c,d,b,c
sorry, a,b,c,b,c,d,c
I forgot to mention that I do like this type of song writing, and yeah its not all conventional. There is just something about a more progressive way of writing, say a song like, Exile. That song builds upon itself, slowly over time. I just wonder what it would sound like if they took an approach that was more along the lines of a song like that.
But then again, I'm high and I think too much when I'm high.
The song and quality of the video seems like it just came out this year (2022).
Out of all albums, Polaris is timeless for me. I always seem to come back to that one more than the others.
❤️
Eh, good song, but i just can't help but think "Damn, this would be twice as good with Ashe". Dan is great, but he's fucking everywhere and it gets boring after a while.
+Bradalee21 Speak for yourself, I wish he did more stuff instead. Still waiting on ZETA and the next Absent Hearts record.
+Bradalee21 thanks for your input
if you'd like to listen to Ashe, why aren't you following his side projects, like Voices from the Fuselage?
The fact is that Ashe is out of Tesseract because of creative differences.
+Taylor Cathcart That's all irrelevant when it comes to me thinking TesseracT sound better with Ashe.
+Bradalee21 my point is that the band felt otherwise. just sharing my opinion just as you are...
Really wish the opening riff returned at the end.
***** The bass cut so hard on the first riff I wanted that again. Ill admit they got me to hit replay just to here the beginning agian.
+Tim Medic totally agree ha
+Tim Medic It might actually, at least on the record. The other singles/videos were radio edits, too, why not this one? Also, at first I was like "Dan, is that you?" Still love it though
i agree, the beginning is beautiful
Now that im listening to this closer, I hear that the bass and guitar are switching off notes. basically muting the bass every time the guitar plays this is why the bass cuts in and out so hard. Im guessing this is super hard to play and they didnt want to have to do it live every chorus but anyways thats just my theory
dat groove at 4:28 till the end....that's why I love Tesseract :)
Mad song !
0:39 DIRECTED BY PELE : The legendary football player !
From Brazil : "An showcase doesn´t direct anything, it is directed."
This is exactly why I'm happy to seen Dan Tompkins back, he's a very versatile vocalist and his range encourages Tesseract to experiment.
Amazing, absolutely amazing.
Oh, and 'dat Amos Williams.
They would have been just as great if Ashe was in the band..
+Brendon stacey
I agree Ashe is an incredible vocalist but for me Dan's vocals are more versatile, which allows them to try new things and this is different to anything else they've done.
I don't know, altered state was pretty new and sounded nothing like one
+Brendon stacey
But conceptually, the vocals were very similar between songs on that album. Messenger and now Survival are extremely different.
Before I get complained at, I really like Altered State.
I just feel like exile, singularity and resist are their best songs to date it was a massive step up from one, messenger for me was just okay and this is good but I haven't heard anything as of yet that's blown me away like those three particular songs did for me
The comment stream on here is a true testament to the paradox that is human opinion. Our own opinion on things such as music, religion, etc tends to be about as flexible as stone. However, we see no problem spending a great deal of time and effort trying to convince others' that their opinion is wrong. Persuasion (and human psychology in general) is an art form very, very few of us seem to comprehend. Two words - "Dale Carnegie".
Gah I went to basically say the same thing but you articulated it about as well as it can be. Cheers.
"I disagree with you and the truth is that we are both as wrong as we are right"
Altered State stood out to me in a way that no other album has ever stood out to me. I still see kaleidoscopic visions when I close my eyes to this album, pictures that are beyond the strength of words to explain. TesseracT will always be that one band that I will keep as a reference at the back of my mind while listening to any other band. Thank you TesseracT. Keep inspiring.
I was a little nervous about Polaris after the first single. It was good, but it didn't have the TesseracT feel. This song has assuaged that nervousness. Great production, great riffs, looking forwards to the full album.
I feel the same way!
Awesome. If that beginning riff had come in again just before the stonking ending riff..... It would have been even better. IMO. Still great though.
2021 and can't stop listening to it ❤️
*Shed's a tear of happiness*
Thank you TesseracT :')
I can't be the only one that thinks that actor's wardrobe is on point.
if it was me I's change the shirt under the jacket to a maroon or wine for some color and yeah totally on target. maybe even a designed blue with a few different shades. but if you don't like color then go with a neutral gray, the black's repetitive. not bad but could be improved for my style
+Shawn Kade Oh god Brendon Stacey is everywhere... -_-
The first thing I said was “this guy has some serious drip game”
The band must come to India
PLEASEEEEE
Literally getting chills throughout the entire song, absolutely a masterpiece
"directed by pele" can someone explain this shit to me
SO FUCKING AMAZING.
such good music , hits me to the core !
+Connor Tyler Noice
Instant classic. That US tour is going to be incredible.
a masterpiece, cant wait for the album \m/
Incredible. Glad to see Tesseract expanding their songwriting style, this is exactly what I was hoping for.
Not bad, not good. It just feels like more of the same (in a neutral way), which makes me ponder about the difference between "identity" and "parroting your creative resources over and over" (I don't mean to sound harsh, if that's how you're reading me).
I humbly encourage you to expand your creative resources.
Tons of love from Spain!
That ending riff sounds so fucking powerful coming out of my 99 Camry speakers holy shit
Id say: so so. Its a little bit too POPy imo. Its not like i hate it but still dont love it, dont know why
It's the most radio friendly song on the album..
+Brendon stacey okay, how do you know that?
Amane Mizuhashi figure it out..
+Brendon stacey yeah id call it this way too man ;)
+Brendon stacey listen harder? Eh, okay.
Awesome but I'd like to hear more grooves
I don't get the video at all, but holy fuck was the song amazing!
It is about immigration- pretty sure from what Dan said
+Force From the description: On the video concept he comments”The video is set in the near future where Imani (The actors) has been framed. Central are hunting him down as they have already captured his family. He's on a constant battle to find them without being captured himself.”
+NiceTacos It was cool the way they created a story from the ideas behind the song- it creates something we can all relate to
This is awesome, Dan's vocals are so good
lose za popizdit ( translation this sucks :-( ) your first album was greate this album not so much
NOW we're talking! This song is fucking bonkers, Messenger was weak, but WOW!
Vocals sort of remind me of Katatonia
Possible drum cover of this coming up but most of the rest of the album done over on my channel!
my god Pele is a god at football but directing videos also????:----00
They're a bit like if Tool started in 2010. I do like them. Will watch at download.
Lol tool and tesseract are completely different... Do you even listen to tool?
+Exoplanets Dan said that Maynard and Tool music had a big influence on him.
+MrMaxlines yeah I don't doubt it. Tool influenced every body but it doesn't mean they make similar music.
About the Tool part it's an interesting way to see it, agreed!
Oh yeah, you can hear Tool in a lot of their work. If you're going to find inspiration somewhere you couldn't pick a better place than Tool.
Reminds me of Bleeding Me by Metallica in a way. That's a good thing.
This song needs more views. Its awesome and easy on the ears, everyone should hear it...
That intro is totally Eden 3.0, love it!
If you like tesseract, chances are you'd like my newest album as well! There's never enough music like this out there!
This is fucking stunning! I'm feeling some Jonas Renkse/Katatonia vibes here.. That is certainly not a bad thing! :)
I genuinely can't wait for this record.
Beastly song. Reminds me a bit of some of Karnivool's work, without the overly drawn out sections and sub par vocals.
I, too, have noticed this in Sonder (their latest album)
I LOVE it. Ian Kenny will always be one of my favourite vocalists ever and karnivool/BoT had such a unique but interesting sound so im super glad it seems to have influenced a bit of tesseract. Its a fusion i never knew i wanted but god damn its good.
I have no sympathy for the guy in the video cos he uses Windows.
Chris Bowe Windows is da shit ;-)
Maybe if Нe used Mac or Linux things would be different
Glad to see they are keeping some of the sounds they developed in Altered State while still staying true to Dan's voice and personal style. This album is going to be sick.
Fuck
Yeah!
Great track, too much crying on the album.
Wow....this sounds amazing!!!
Cant get any better!
1:30 they used that in lament haha oh I miss one..
Fuck, those grooves are insane!
so sick
I keep wondering why he wears sunglasses at night...
Duh... its dark out - why would they call them SUN GLASSES if they didn't help you see the sun?
Eh. It's good but not as great as I anticipated.
Not many people can look good in glasses like that, but that guy really pulls them off
PELEEE!!!!
not a huge fan of the new vocals, but i still need this new album like a crackhead needs his pipe.
"New" vocals; Dan was their singer in One, before Ashe in Altered State. I do like his lower vocal range in this song.
Thats crazy because i LOVED the vocals in One. Such a huge change. Maybe he's just expanding his overall range on this album.
+Jonathan Martinez Some of the material on One was Daniel interpreting vocal lines by their original singer Abisola Obasanya, and though it did sound very different from the originals it may explain why his work here and in Skyharbor is pretty different from that first Tesseract album. I'm a big fan of the new stuff though, he's very different from song to song.
He has grown as a singer though, which helps him to do new things
4:28 is when people get hurt
I'm not sure fans realize how artist mature and decide to stop be angry at the world and start progressing as songwriters. That and the screaming ruins a good voice. Dan and Ashe both have voices to die for and we should all enjoy whatever it is that they offer up. They work hard to put their best foot forward and deserve to be treated with respect as gifted musicians.
+jwdicken1 i don't think the naysayers are disrespecting the musicians. clearly we know that they are amazing musicians, and we hear it best on Altered State (my opinion) and i don't think they are angry on any album. and sure they are growing as artists and progressing, but with growth comes growing apart (meaning Musicians and the fans) and they'll gain new fans. i think the two songs they've released are very bland compared to previous releases, they aren't terrible songs....just kinda boring, and for me it's due to the vocals....even though i LOVED dan in "one" and in skyharbor releases. (not because of the screams) either way, i've pre-ordered this album already so i'm still supporting them because they are amazing musicians.
I wouldn't necessarily say bland. I would say tame, matured, focused, and subtle.
Learned to know TesseracT a few days ago. Great music!!!! Survival probably best!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Really gets me emotional. You guys are amazing.
Theres some Sevendust in that chorus for sure!
awesome video
fucking love TesseracT
Once upon a time, there was a harbor in the sky shaped like a tesseract. While approaching the harbor, you can hear piano music wafting through the air if you listen closely. There are two docks at this harbor, one labeled with a white moth, the other labeled with a black butterfly.
The End
60k views in 2 days."this new single is meeeh okaay." Why dont you write something that gets this many views, then we'll talk. I like this one better than messenger. That ending riff though. Really groovy and heavy. Sept.18th!!!
+Jakub Zabłocki Pro tip, the ending riff is actually played on the verses as well, just palm muted.
Just amazing as I expected. *___*
Open your mind and your ears people. This new TesseracT has such an unique instrumental, incredible vocals, which sound catchy just like Nocturne but also introspective like Of Matter) good lyrics, variations in tempo and I honestly can't wait to hear the full New Album!
Just Purchased tickets for the Oxford Venue Feb 10th ,See you guys soon !
0:12 "it come out the bunghole"
4:28 TesseracT bringing the groove! So stoked for this album! :D
Listen. Repeat. Listen. Repeat....
I'm always amazed at how far you go with each release!
Come to Greece please!
Brilliant!!
