  • Victoria Iva's newest deck, The Guiding Light Tarot, is a less shadowy version of The Black Tarot, as it shines a light on inner purity, emotional struggle, spiritual growth, and soulful growth. In this video, I do a side-by-side comparison with both decks to showcase the differences/similarities between them. Which deck are you drawn to more?

I've now actually added the black tarot to my save for list.
I like the geometry of the guiding light but i really really don't like pip decks so there's little chance I'll get it for actual use.
The black deck looks awesome for shadow or trauma work. Very visceral. I love that.

Pip decks have to be made with more to it for me to enjoy. I can’t get anything from the designs - I have to rely on numerology for pip decks, and I’m too lazy for that haha. Let me know what you think about Black Tarot when you get it. Thanks for watching and sharing 🧡

As was already mentioned, I’ve never gotten the Fountain Tarot for similar reason I wouldn’t get the Guiding Light … cold. But I adore my Black Tarot - can really go deeply intuitive beyond the norm with the Black Tarot. I sometimes juxtapose the Black Tarot with my beloved Shimmering Veil Tarot for above and below readings. Powerful. Thank you for sharing these two in contrast.

Thanks for stopping by! The Black Tarot is gorgeous! And I always get lost in the imagery. 💚

      Interesting.
I do have the fountain tarot and it's my most gentle, warm deck. It's got a really airy feel.
Always love seeing others reads on deck vibes for this reason.

Some nice cards in the Guiding Light (I loved The Magician) but the Dark Tarot so much more interesting. Great video, thanks Jason❤

Hey Jon! Guiding Light does have some lovely cards and some of the cards I prefer over the Black Tarot but the Black Tarot wins overall. Glad I’m not the only one ☺️ thanks for watching 💚

I'm certain I could read with the Guiding Light Tarot, but it's not one where I feel like I'd want to linger over the images. It's a bit on the cold side. Reminds me a bit of what I've seen of the Fountain Tarot. Thanks for showing both.

Hey Robin! Thanks for watching. You’re absolutely right! It has a cold feeling. Now that you mentioned it… it is similar to Fountain. Leaves very little to the imagination when it comes to the images. Thanks for sharing 💚

Thank you for this. I was already interested in the Black Tarot, so it was informative to see it next another photographic abstract deck. It looked to me that the Guiding Light would be much easier to read - as you mentioned, the images are similar in some ways to more traditional representations. The Black Tarot seemed even more abstract, sometimes fractured images, and definitely not as easy to grasp. It does feel as if the Guiding Light Images are almost a pared down shorthand of the known images, where the Black Tarot deck can be more foreign, but also (as you mentioned) have more layers to work with. I am not particularly fond of dark decks, but the Black Tarot deck seemed to be one I would look to for contrast. I am keeping it on my list, but perhaps a bit lower in priority because of the abstraction. This is so very helpful. Thank you again.

You wrote exactly how I would describe both of these decks if I had a better vocabulary haha! I like brighter decks but Guiding Light doesn’t work for me as a deck whereas Black tarot reminds me more so of a traditional RWS deck. I haven’t pulled these decks out since the video haha. Whenever you get the deck, I’d love to know what you think. Thanks for sharing and watching! 🧡

Great side by side, Jason. I favor The Black Tarot, which is mysterious, multilayered, and inviting. The Guiding Light feels cold to me and one dimensional. I'm very glad you like The Black Tarot, it really does have pretty images. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Both are intriguing, however after looking at this side by side I don't think either attract me enough for me to want to buy it... Something I noticed is that some of the cards are similar, either the pips placement, the character position, layout... I do like the colour palette of the Guiding Light tarot, it has a futuristic feel and look to it and I like the edge colour a lot! Thank you for making this comparison video :)

Very interesting video! I really like both tarot decks. I like what they have in common and what they have each one in particular. I think that I would choose...both of them.

Hey thanks for watching! Hmm, it could be a decent deck for beginners. It’s definitely less traditional. If you’re called to the artwork, yes 💚

I know you didn’t specifically ask me however as a beginner myself only about a year in, I am all for using, exploring & seeking wisdom & guidance from any deck(s) that you feel a pull towards. I have quite a few decks, some rws inspired and if you compare those guidebooks, yes there are keywords but passages, different viewpoints, information are all unique to that deck. If you want to have the keywords handy, I feel any deck would be wonderful, especially since one of the commonalities guide books all have is first and foremost, going off & trusting your own intuition and your own feelings & takeaway from those images. Intuition is so powerful and so again, if a deck calls out to you then just explore that relationship. Take the Enchanted Tarot (highly recommend) that deck is very well regarded, recommended and does follow a bit of a different deviation from RWS, especially the imagery.
I will recommend to have a standard RWS Tarot in tandem with other decks you’re drawn to, but as far as using words like beginner or master and what decks be appropriate are very subjective & personal. I don’t believe in something labeled beginner friendly or not, just as I don’t underestimate a decks power and effectiveness as decks I got mainly for the novelty (a nightmare before Christmas and Zombie Tarot) were absolutely mind blowing and the guidance I was gifted from those decks were not at all novelty messages.
      Good luck, 🖤
