I also have it on my SSD, even though it's an old game, but I love it, and having it in an SSD helps the Toolset to load faster (I like to make small mods, tweaking things here and there 😄 )

My go to party is main character being a rogue, Alistair as a tank, Wynne as healer & battle mage , and Zevran as both double handed and bow. It worked perfectly for the archdemon.
That dummy Alistair is always dying on me. I got him rocking solid gear and as soon as I taunt dude loses half his HP smh. Sten is better so far at tank.

I finished this game long time ago at normal mode. Few days ago i decided to play it again on a harder mode, so i read the Prima's official game guide hoping that i would be able to do a good job, but i failed, Then i watched this video and i started to kick asses in almost everything aspect of the game. This prove that no one can guide you better in a game than the game's creator.
Origins I beat with me as a Warrior Tank, Sten as my main damage dealer. Leliana as my support Archer. Morrigan as my Healer. This was my main group everywhere I went. Awakening I am currently working on. The main I've put together is me as Tank Warrior, Oghren as my main damage dealer, Sigrun as my support Mark and Stun Rogue, and Velanna as my healer. You can actually turn Morrigan and Velanna into Healers by redirectiong all their new learned spells into the healing spells. Really helpful.
Still waiting on DA 4!!! I LOVE the Dragon Age series and still actively play all of them. Not having the fourth installment is like reading half of a wonderful story. PLEASE work on DA 4, for us!
I have played through this game seven times, currently on my eighth on nightmare difficulty for the first time. Why I've never done nightmare mode before I don't know. But this game ranks as my number 2 favorite game of all time. I'm kinda excited for DA4, Inquisition was pretty good, but neither will ever be Dragon Age: Origins. Period.
Ive gone through Nightmare mode on DAO and boy was it difficult. The team i used though Was My Self as a Mage with Blood Mage Specialization, Shale as the Tank, Lilliana as the Archer and Wynne as the teams healer. It was a perfect Team in my opinion.
it dpends on how you look at it. I give Leliana the recurve and I keep Falon'Dins Reach. They are VERY close to eachother. The only problem is that the recurve is only able to be used by Leliana.
I think I had the healer lady, the mage lady, the Templar guy, and I was a two handed warrior. It might not of been optimized fully but damn it was nice.
It"s quite simple actually. You can choose from either Human, Dwarf, and Elf backgrounds. There are six distinct background storys in which you can play through (with a decided fate of course). The Human race has the same story. On the other hand, Dwarfs and Elves have two each, But if you pick a mage (either human or elf because dwarfs can't do magic) you will have only one to choose from.
I beat the game with: Myself, duh, Oghren,Berserker/Champion Alistair Beserker/Templar, But I only took him because I thought it was fitting. And Wynne Shapeshifter/Spirit. I didn't actually get her any skills in Shapeshifting, only got for stats as i'm already a Spirit Healer/Arcane Warrior. I like to have two healers and two Melee DPS. That was I can have 3 Melee and 2 Healers. I hope this helped! In a way... I guess...
the surperior rogue in my opinion is the one u call finesse rogue, dex and cunning combined kills enemies really fast, as soon as u reach 36 dex, u spam cunning. :D
I went trough DAO on hard with 2x mage, Allistar as a tank and one rogue. My main mage was focused on 'damage'', mainly walking bomb and hexes, second mage was focused on defensive spells like wards, heals and maintaining telekinetic weapons.The goal was getting gear for Allistar with lots of spirit resistance asap, getting him to pull all the enemies, throwing a ward underneath him and blowing up everything with a walking bomb! Often it would damage Allistar as well, so after walking bomb goes off he would require a heal, but it was effective as hell, made the middle and late game easy as goblin pie! So anybody have a party comp they would like to share? I wanna play trough DAO again, its been years sense my last one. Any interesting suggestions ?
I had a Dual-Wielding Warrior, Alistair as a tank, and Wynne and Leliana as ranged support. It was hard in the beginning, but mid to late game got much easier. Oh and Momentum is not needed since you have Haste with Wynne and flaming swords do a lot of damage
Aww, man, now you reminded me of DA:O :')! What i wouldn't give to get that feeling again of first time playing trough the game... The story, characters, scenery and epic fights! I think i can just about smell it! :) Inquisition almost ruined me... What a fail Inquisition was, at least for me! Lets hope the next game they make goes back to the roots! Peace out!
+Pookie Pook I tried many party compositions but the best of them is solo )) As for your scenario, Alistair's spirit resistance won't help much agains your (Virulent) walking bomb. The problem is when the bomb goes off, it inflicts physical, not spirit damage. And in this case it's not mitigated by the armor. The only reason why you could get away with this is because your teammates get only half damage of these spells. My favourite anti-crowd tactics is the following: 1) Put your party on hold. Make the tank or summon (Ranger's pet, animated corpse, whatever) charge the crowd and taunt. 2) [Optional] Put a Force field on your tank (no need to do it for a summon). 3) Place a Glyph of repulsion near him. Add a Glyph of paralysis on top. 4) The crowd is paralyzed for 20 seconds (if normal enemies). Use Affliction Hex if you have it to soften them up. 5) Blast them with Inferno or other AOE. 6) Hit one of the immobilized enemies with Virulent WB. Watch the firework. 7) Evacuate and heal the tank once his FF is down. If you've used the Storm of the Century it is generally impossible, so you may need another mage to FF him again.
FInished the game and all expansions with a arcane warrior dualwielding a sword, can't remember the name but it was kick ass, with 2 sockets to +5 fire dmg and 1 enchant from morrigan for +5 frost dmg and enchant from me for +5 fire dmg, was truly unstopable
Actually you can download a respecialization mod to build a char from scratch. and OMG i love threaten skill, it is sth you dont see much in many game.

Self at 25% Drink least powerful Ally at 50% heal Main Rogue Tank Alistair Mage Wynne and Dog...Dog will WRECK casters while Alistair gets everything and Wynne heals the crap out of everyone while you dual wield with momentum and poisons. Paralysis runes and deathroot venoms... I beat the Archdemon the other day with 2 ambien on me...I don't even remember doing it...woke up with the game beat...
I have a bone to pick with this game.first played it on my laptop-intel dual core (1.80 GHz)-4g RAM-HD-500g-windows 7 prof. up to date-antivirus disabled -latest Direct X and graphics drivers So I installed it about 3 months ago and played it so nicely with no problems but 2 months later the game started lagging. I cleaned my laptop properly but that didn't help.if anyone has the same problem or know how to resolve this issue please talk to me.I'm a huge fan of this game :D :)

You're not giving rogues enough credit. The most powerful build I ever made was a dexterity maxed dual-wielding rogue. Dealt insane damage and had better survivability than many warrior tanks I've used.
Dual Wield Rogues are insane I'd say they are the second best all around spec. You still need a tank but they absolutely shred. Especially if you have come of cold on people. The easiest classes to solo the game with are arcane warrior and dual wield rogue.
2 Mages 2 Warriors....best combo in this game imo Both mages go heavy on paralyzing and other CC spells (frost cone etc), one goes healing *spirit healer and shapeshigter, morrigan) other goes dmg (arcane warrior and blood, me) One warrior is tank (champion and templar, alistair), other reaver and berserke (sven, ogrim or w/e) I think rogues are generally useless here (at least i havent been able to utilize them), they are weak, lot of their spells are "useless", archer is just weak as fuck, there are some good spells and there is a way to play, but i find them way too hard to play.Besides i think this game was too overpowered on mages where i think that 4 mages are overpwoered by sheer amount of CC that you cant resist constantly
+Moangus PIckard You cannot get 4 mages in the game - only 3 if your character is a mage. Rogues are not weak, particularly if you can get them some proper equipment (mostly from the DLCs - the 1st half of the base game has very little for them). It seems Bioware basically shoehorned this class right before the release and forgot that they need the proper equipment too. Anyway, they are very versatile and offer excellent defense and DPS (DW rogues only - archers are really weak). If you are going to play solo, Rogue is probably the most suitable class to play. It's just somewhat more tricky to build properly than a Warrior, and you need more levels to finish the build. Frankly, it only happens in the Awakening at lvl 30-35. The same goes for Mage class though (if that's not a narrowly specialized mage). And archery in the Awakening is insane too!
Pasheg lol...rogue only works with rogue talents (backstabs etc) and only if it procs the backstab, damage is weak and stamina is problem as is for any warr except tank.....and only with mage (perhaps tanky warr) can you win arenas in ozrimar solo vs 4 or more guys......i played rogua and if you idea of strong is 50lvl then wtf will i do for those 49 lvls?Mage is strong from get go, and always keps its interesting and strong to play.....in DA2 rogues and warrs are better with berserker warr basically destroying enemies ( i didnt play any dlcfor any game so idk what dlcs change or add equipment)
Moangus PIckard I have a pretty hard time understanding what you have wrote. If you are going to make your point, just stop writing like a 10 year old, it's ridiculous and even insulting. I played both heavily armored Warriors and lightly armored DEX-based Rogues, including solo. Overall the DPS is about the same, but Rogue gets hit much less often even compared to the Warrior with high DEX. You save a lot of potions and also can detect/disarm traps and hit those pesky spellcasters in the back out of stealth. Warrior can only march forward, collect all hits, set off all the traps and gulp potions non-stop to stay alive. In some situations heavy/massive armor can make a difference (e.g. dragon fights), but it's possible to build a DEX/ST-based Rogue for solo if you need heavier armor. Of course, Arcane Warrior is by far the strongest solo class, but using it is pretty much cheating. There's no challenge whatsoever, it's immortal. And it only works properly after lvl 16.
Pasheg i guess you either played on lowest difficulty or we played different games......rogue even with all pausing and tactics is either outdamaged by mage or outlived by it.Its litterally useless aside from chests and traps (and you can walk over those, or not).Warriors dont have stamina to spam spells and miss almost all attacks.3 mages and a tank will kill any comp every day of the week.
Moangus PIckard Gawd, just how stubborn a person can be? You really think you're the only one who knows 1st gen DA games through the length and breadth? You aren't, and for all I can see your knowledge leaves much to be desired. Those who developed the game mechanics were not idiots. There is no such thing as "weak" or "strong" class in it. If you think some class is weak, you simply don't understand how to build and utilize it properly. Of course, AOE/CC mages are sort of overpowered there, and 3 mages + 1 tank is the easiest party combination to play. But solo character is not the same as a full party. It makes a lot of tactical differense. The strongest solo character is Arcane Warrior (at lvl 16+) - completely invincible, no challenge whatsoever. Some warrior builds - very workable, but makes for dumb and straightforward gameplay, need tons of strong health potions too. Solo melee Rogue with very high Dex was easily the most practical class overall. Later in the Awakening and the Golems of Amgarrak it became ridiculously overpowered and even invincible (that's high Dex + high dodge chance for ya). Though I agree that the Rogue companions in the base game aren't very useful - for a number of reasons. Playing on easy dificullty BTW makes no sense whatsoever when solo Nightmare is a joke for the most part. That's on PC - console versions are way easier. Sure, you can get caught and die here and there, and depending on your class and build some encounters can prove difficult or exhausting. But that's about it.
what would be the strongest character? And how to build it? :) I don't know how many times I've made a new character, and since I'm a girl I like to make good looking men ;) but what would be the best?
When I was younger I used to love Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, NWN etc. It was all I played. Now, whenever I see a character creation/upgrade screen I feel like I'm doing my taxes. I've installed DA:O like five times and uninstalled after just a few minutes :-/ It's a shame cause it looks awesome.
I have some advice. Pick your skills at the beginning and then use the auto level function. You can do this for all your party. I would suggest playing on normal though because the auto build isn't as good as if you know what your doing.
+Karlan Jones This is often said by people because they try to tackle the main quests in the wrong order. The game gives you essentially zero warning that the four main quests have a level floor for enemies, so going to Denerim or Orzammar first is outright suicidal. Go Mage Circle Tower -> (DLC areas as desired) -> Redcliffe -> Brecilian Forest -> Denerim (urn of sacred ashes) -> Orzammar and you'll find things way, way, way easier. I did exactly the same thing when I first played. Picked rogue, which has a slow start in terms of direct combat power, and went to Redcliffe first. Got owned. Like the other guy said, also, Mages own hard.
Not only does the mage tower have the lowest level enemies, the fade sequence can get you up to 21 free, permanent stats points, equivalent to gaining 7 levels worth of stats.
+Karlan Jones Oh come on! It seems hard when you play for the 1st time (worst of all as a mage). When you start to understand the game mechanics better, it becomes pretty easy and the team of 4 seems redundant even on Nightmare. Furthermore, the teammates tend to get in the way and you have to babysit them all the time. I now play only solo, which has some drawbacks (class-specific abilities can be very handy) but overall not actually hard per se. You just need to build and equip your character right, and finish the quests in suitable order. Also make sure you have all the DLCs installed - they provide much superior equipment, some of which is available for any new character right from the start (sometimes once you've finished a standalone campaign such as "Leliana's Song"). It changes a lot. Needless to say, not all classes, specializations and builds are equal - some are mostly suitable for team-based gameplay (e.g. rogue archer), and some don't require any team at all (arcane warrior mage after lvl 15-16).
I really miss when studios would make these kinds of videos.

Darren Lanigan no andromeda was actual garbage. Inquisition was meh the combat was the fun but majority of the quests were fucking garbage.

At higher levels Alistair is a better tank than Shale because the armors you can get late in game are superior than Shale's crystals.

I have a bone to pick with this game.first played it on my laptop-intel dual core (1.80 GHz)-4g RAM-HD-500g-windows 7 prof. up to date-antivirus disabled -latest Direct X and graphics drivers So I installed it about 3 months ago and played it so nicely with no problems but 2 months later the game started lagging. I cleaned my laptop properly but that didn't help.if anyone has the same problem or know how to resolve this issue please talk to me.I'm a huge fan of this game :D :)

mage = Arcane warrior -> every sustained at once -> power level over 9000
rogue = Get unlocking skill -> proceed to be dead weight to the party

You're not giving rogues enough credit. The most powerful build I ever made was a dexterity maxed dual-wielding rogue. Dealt insane damage and had better survivability than many warrior tanks I've used.
Dual Wield Rogues are insane I'd say they are the second best all around spec. You still need a tank but they absolutely shred. Especially if you have come of cold on people. The easiest classes to solo the game with are arcane warrior and dual wield rogue.
Bioware= the only company that will make an actually useful guide for their game

2 Mages 2 Warriors....best combo in this game imo
Both mages go heavy on paralyzing and other CC spells (frost cone etc), one goes healing *spirit healer and shapeshigter, morrigan) other goes dmg (arcane warrior and blood, me)
One warrior is tank (champion and templar, alistair), other reaver and berserke (sven, ogrim or w/e)
I think rogues are generally useless here (at least i havent been able to utilize them), they are weak, lot of their spells are "useless", archer is just weak as fuck, there are some good spells and there is a way to play, but i find them way too hard to play.Besides i think this game was too overpowered on mages where i think that 4 mages are overpwoered by sheer amount of CC that you cant resist constantly
+Moangus PIckard You cannot get 4 mages in the game - only 3 if your character is a mage. Rogues are not weak, particularly if you can get them some proper equipment (mostly from the DLCs - the 1st half of the base game has very little for them). It seems Bioware basically shoehorned this class right before the release and forgot that they need the proper equipment too.
Anyway, they are very versatile and offer excellent defense and DPS (DW rogues only - archers are really weak). If you are going to play solo, Rogue is probably the most suitable class to play. It's just somewhat more tricky to build properly than a Warrior, and you need more levels to finish the build. Frankly, it only happens in the Awakening at lvl 30-35. The same goes for Mage class though (if that's not a narrowly specialized mage). And archery in the Awakening is insane too!
Pasheg lol...rogue only works with rogue talents (backstabs etc) and only if it procs the backstab, damage is weak and stamina is problem as is for any warr except tank.....and only with mage (perhaps tanky warr) can you win arenas in ozrimar solo vs 4 or more guys......i played rogua and if you idea of strong is 50lvl then wtf will i do for those 49 lvls?Mage is strong from get go, and always keps its interesting and strong to play.....in DA2 rogues and warrs are better with berserker warr basically destroying enemies ( i didnt play any dlcfor any game so idk what dlcs change or add equipment)
Moangus PIckard I have a pretty hard time understanding what you have wrote. If you are going to make your point, just stop writing like a 10 year old, it's ridiculous and even insulting.
I played both heavily armored Warriors and lightly armored DEX-based Rogues, including solo. Overall the DPS is about the same, but Rogue gets hit much less often even compared to the Warrior with high DEX. You save a lot of potions and also can detect/disarm traps and hit those pesky spellcasters in the back out of stealth. Warrior can only march forward, collect all hits, set off all the traps and gulp potions non-stop to stay alive. In some situations heavy/massive armor can make a difference (e.g. dragon fights), but it's possible to build a DEX/ST-based Rogue for solo if you need heavier armor.
Of course, Arcane Warrior is by far the strongest solo class, but using it is pretty much cheating. There's no challenge whatsoever, it's immortal. And it only works properly after lvl 16.
Pasheg i guess you either played on lowest difficulty or we played different games......rogue even with all pausing and tactics is either outdamaged by mage or outlived by it.Its litterally useless aside from chests and traps (and you can walk over those, or not).Warriors dont have stamina to spam spells and miss almost all attacks.3 mages and a tank will kill any comp every day of the week.
Moangus PIckard Gawd, just how stubborn a person can be? You really think you're the only one who knows 1st gen DA games through the length and breadth? You aren't, and for all I can see your knowledge leaves much to be desired.
Those who developed the game mechanics were not idiots. There is no such thing as "weak" or "strong" class in it. If you think some class is weak, you simply don't understand how to build and utilize it properly. Of course, AOE/CC mages are sort of overpowered there, and 3 mages + 1 tank is the easiest party combination to play. But solo character is not the same as a full party. It makes a lot of tactical differense. The strongest solo character is Arcane Warrior (at lvl 16+) - completely invincible, no challenge whatsoever. Some warrior builds - very workable, but makes for dumb and straightforward gameplay, need tons of strong health potions too. Solo melee Rogue with very high Dex was easily the most practical class overall. Later in the Awakening and the Golems of Amgarrak it became ridiculously overpowered and even invincible (that's high Dex + high dodge chance for ya).
Though I agree that the Rogue companions in the base game aren't very useful - for a number of reasons.
Playing on easy dificullty BTW makes no sense whatsoever when solo Nightmare is a joke for the most part. That's on PC - console versions are way easier. Sure, you can get caught and die here and there, and depending on your class and build some encounters can prove difficult or exhausting. But that's about it.

They really didn't think force field through. The fact that enemies will keep attacking a teammate in a force field is mechanically broken.
What about willpower? Doesn't it provides more stamina for the warriors, in order to use their talents?

Any class can wear it, but it is pretty much intended for warriors.
you can use it with your mage if you make him an Arcane warrior and boost his magic stat a lot.

Hi im an rpg lover and this game has gotten my attentiin, i wish to no more about the role playing. Will anyone care to explain that to me?
When I was younger I used to love Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, NWN etc. It was all I played. Now, whenever I see a character creation/upgrade screen I feel like I'm doing my taxes. I've installed DA:O like five times and uninstalled after just a few minutes :-/ It's a shame cause it looks awesome.
I have some advice. Pick your skills at the beginning and then use the auto level function. You can do this for all your party. I would suggest playing on normal though because the auto build isn't as good as if you know what your doing.

+Karlan Jones This is often said by people because they try to tackle the main quests in the wrong order. The game gives you essentially zero warning that the four main quests have a level floor for enemies, so going to Denerim or Orzammar first is outright suicidal.
Go Mage Circle Tower -> (DLC areas as desired) -> Redcliffe -> Brecilian Forest -> Denerim (urn of sacred ashes) -> Orzammar and you'll find things way, way, way easier.
I did exactly the same thing when I first played. Picked rogue, which has a slow start in terms of direct combat power, and went to Redcliffe first. Got owned.
Like the other guy said, also, Mages own hard.
Not only does the mage tower have the lowest level enemies, the fade sequence can get you up to 21 free, permanent stats points, equivalent to gaining 7 levels worth of stats.
+Karlan Jones Oh come on! It seems hard when you play for the 1st time (worst of all as a mage). When you start to understand the game mechanics better, it becomes pretty easy and the team of 4 seems redundant even on Nightmare. Furthermore, the teammates tend to get in the way and you have to babysit them all the time. I now play only solo, which has some drawbacks (class-specific abilities can be very handy) but overall not actually hard per se.
You just need to build and equip your character right, and finish the quests in suitable order. Also make sure you have all the DLCs installed - they provide much superior equipment, some of which is available for any new character right from the start (sometimes once you've finished a standalone campaign such as "Leliana's Song"). It changes a lot.
Needless to say, not all classes, specializations and builds are equal - some are mostly suitable for team-based gameplay (e.g. rogue archer), and some don't require any team at all (arcane warrior mage after lvl 15-16).
