Even so, once your off Cocoon and On Pulse, you should have more Freedom to do and Explore in a way similar to that of FF10, 12, and even FF15!
Also, It did Not Make any Damn sense for the Ark Section to be So Goddamn Forced after the Bart Fight!
Let’s also Add some more Lore to Taejin’s Tower, cause Non of that section Made any Goddamn Sense!

I agree about the story calling for how linear FF13 was, the issue I (and many) had however was how LONG that linearity lasted, like 75% was hallways and lack of changing party leaders. :I I think if the cast fell off Cocoon say after they got branded L'cie and there were towns on Pulse to explore with the mission of returning to Cocoon, that would have been a much better game and more in line with Final Fantasy imho.

    • @haziqtheunique

This game was far over hated. I loved all three installments when I played them many many years ago. I’ve played all ff main games now for the exception of the two MMOs (and recently just started ff12 for the first time…loving that one too). And compared to eachother, there are better and worse aspects to each. But there isn’t a bad game in the bunch. Infact I would go as far as saying, that the 13 trilogy may be one of my favorites.

  • @stephen2624
    @stephen2624 3 года назад +88

A remaster would be awesome. There are four new things I think should be included into a FFXIII remaster:
    1. Integrate the FFXIII novella and audio drama, which included how Lightning met Snow, how Serah became a l'Cie and Lightning hearing the words of her dying mother, all fully voiced by the original cast. It's what happened with the X/X-2 Remaster.
    2. The datalogs should be made into collectables found in the levels and all the text is fully voiced too.
    3. Hope's Eidolon boss battle happens in Chapter 7 (when Hope confronts Snow about his mother's death) instead of Chapter 11.
    4. More post-game content like a secret Caius boss fight.

    • @Angel-gr1cb
      @Angel-gr1cb 3 года назад +3

Great ideas I hope the devs will not ignore when the time comes to remaster this amazing game. Specially the datalog, the trilogy has an impressive world building effort in it that most people didn't get to know because it's hidden as a silent read. They could even add a couple cutscenes for the datalog entries, with almost all characters having been 3D modeled for the sequels.
I would also ask for a Jihl miniboss fight in the airship instead of throwing away that character's buildup like the original did.

They definitely should’ve done a better job from the beginning instead of throwing so many terms at you before explaining them, but less than halfway through the game they’ve already explained most of them, by which time I was already living the story. I personally thought the cats of characters, especially lightning but not so much hope, we’re amazing. The ATB system was also super fun, and having the characters move through the battlefield while you waited made it eel so much more alive than every other FF before where the characters just stand still while you wait to attack again (my gripe with most turn based combat games). Plus the ending gets me eveytime I watch it. Probably my favorite ending of any FF that I’ve played

I was at a young age when 13 first came out (I was 13 going on 14) and I remember how everyone hated it. I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about it. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it? Maybe I was scared to admit that it wasn’t that bad and people would’ve dunk me lol.
One thing for sure is that I kept coming back on this game, including its sequels. As the years passed by, I replayed the trilogy with an open mind and reading its datalog and I finally admitted that this game is actually fantastic flaws and all. This game deserves a second chance for everyone and just see the game as a sole title and don’t depend so much on hoping it be better than other FF titles. That’s not what the series is about.
I love FF13 trilogy and I would love to see a remastered edition. Square is very communicative towards us fans so with enough vocals, hopefully this can be reached out to them (if it hasn’t already).

I think if there was a remaster they should change areas like the Hanging Edge and make various paths. They should also switch to characters once the main party member dies. I agree with someone else’s comment; I think a lot of it was the battle system. Players either not understanding how to use the paradigm system properly, intimidated them, or just flat out got wrecked in battles. Cause my second play through.. I was completely floored.. and yearning for more. I was so sad when I finished the game, and even thought on the story years later. The story is magnificent, maybe my favorite story of all time in a game.. aside from the Mass Effect series of course lol. What I think need to be change
    Combat System
    1) I wish we can change each character just like FF10 but the problem is with Paradigm Customization that need Roles to be set first. That is a big problem
    2) Change the character that we can control while in battle just like FF13-2
    3) Customization for Paradigm Shift animation into 2, Skip Animation or Animated
    4) Improve and buff Technique skill and add new technique
    Summon System
    1) Buff Eidolon, like A LOT
    2) Make it easier to summon, separate it from Technique
    3) Add new summon that can be assigned to all character just like FF12, just apply it on Crystarium
    Crystarium
    1) Create new branches for us to select some Spell, Technique or Skill, because I hate saboteur -ga spell, or give option to skip skill/spell/technique nodesa
    2) Create new fragment/item call as Spell Fragment or Status fragment that can be add in Crystarium of character that we chose to learn the spell or increase status of.
    Story/Gameplay
    1) Instead of all of the story, lore and information got throw into datalog, create NPC's along the journey to explain every important details need to be know in Cocoon, While in Gran Pulse we can have Cieth Mission Stone to do the job. Some people confuse what is this and that , that they gave up to understand what the story about.
    2) About the linearity, I can't think of anything since the story is about some group that have time limit to finish their focus being chased by whole Cocoon since they are enemy of Cocoon. The reason why Gran Pulse is the only place where the linearity gone
    3) Create a lot of interactive Puzzles to access some area/zone, instead of fight, fight, again and fight through all game. Example, to decode security machines lock puzzles, access to the next room instead of pressing 1 X
    4) Make all places accessible after the game end, like Nautilus, so we can enjoy some mini game or new mission just like Serendipity in FF13-2 or to revisit miss-able treasures or some new content. Create teleport crystal like FF10/FF12. Make new side mission in Cocoon with NPC
    5) Add Secret treasure/ultimate weapon/items/mission instead of obvious floating Treasure Sphere
    6) Can save anytime, anywhere like FF13-2
    7) MORE GIL DROP!!!!
    8) Add Hard, Insane, God mode

    @stupiddog321 2 года назад +1

I just feel like there''s so much potential for this game to be great. An actual remake would easily propel it to the top tier of FF games. Here's are something that it could improved
    1. Better battle user interface: manual command is such a hassle because I have to surf through layers of menu just to access the character abitlities. Did you know you can change characters in XIII-2, but it worthless because it's tucked behind layers of menu, making it too slow. They should put the abilties selection menu as the default menu when you enter combat, and being able to switch characters simply using the D-pad. Also, out of combat, you should be able to arrange your abitlies list so that you can put your most important ones on the top. Also, how about being to acess higher level abilties by simple holding down the basic level abilities, for example, hold down the Fire button will extended it into Fira and eventually Firaga. That way, the need to for auto-battle is eliminated, which is a source of complaint most people have with this game.
    2. Far more important than just being to switch characters on the fly imo, is being able to assisgn "Paradigm Leader", as in auto-matically switch a a specific character after chaging into a paradigm. For example, in Com-Rav-Rav, I want to control Lightning since she is the main chain builder. But in Med-Sen-Med I want to control Hope is he is the main healer, and in Com-Com-Rav, I want to control Fang since is the main damage dealer.
    3. This might be controversial but I devise a way to move Chapter 11 (the open world chapter) right to the begining of the game. It goes like this. After the cutscene where Anima turned the characters into L-cie, we just cut to black and start the game in Pulse, with only Lightning and Hope is playable. They talked about how to they crash landed, and their supplies wer scattered all over the place, and how they needed to collect them back. As you go to the one of locations to collect supplies, you get a playable flashback of previous chapters. After the playing the chapter, all your gears and items you collected during the flashback will be added to the current time in Pulse. Addtionally, you can unlock playable characters in Pulse by playing the memory flashback. That way, you can weave in open world sections with linear ones to keep the gameplay loop less boring.
    4. Would be nice if you can get some actual shops instead of the online one where you can buy things at a discounted price, or different shops can offer discount of different items. Would be also nice to have a central town in Pulse where we can hangout and buys stuffs. Yeah, I know, there isn't supposed be any more human left in Pulse, BUT, how able bunch of creatures just decided to gather round a build a civilazation in place of human, kinda how the robot village in Nier Automata works. That would be pretty cute.
    5. I think a bit of lore dump about the nature of Pulse, Cocoon, and their Fal'cies at the begining of the game would make the story, especially during the early chapters, less confusing.

That was what killed the trilogy for me, because I love to explore maps & collect things, but I had such bad anxiety trying to rush through areas I didn’t get to appreciate it at all. I loved XIII-2 more than any of them, but XIII had scenes that are still some of my favorites in FF as a whole. They really should bring it to the PS4 store to allow new comers and fans to FF13 to experience it agian/for the first time, it’s a really good game and is mainly story based. Yea it has its cons but it’s so good! If they did remaster it they could add some more side content and flesh out the story a bit more to make it a bit better! If they do a remaster they might as well do all three, however, the first XIII's biggest problem is that the writing team failed at the basics when it came to telling this game's story. They stuck a lot in the datalog, they used terms without providing real context to them, and the biggest sin was when you got to Pulse they didn't use all the side quests, or even a significant percentage of them, to fill in the lore of the fabula nova crystallis epic they were trying to build or the history of what seemed to be a vacant planet. If they had done a better job of incorporating the nuances into the active story, allowing the players to experience it with the characters, I believe this game would have suffered far less of a backlash.

@@thedaniel13000 I firmly believe that Lightning Returns did the whole cast dirty 😂. FFXIII-2 was a good idea and solid game although felt more like a spin off. That said I agree with you. The original ffxiii had a great story about faith and free will, great lore, creative Re invention of the crystal/warriors of light mythos, gorgeous art direction, phenomenal graphics, and the characters weren’t bad just badly executed. The only problem was the linearity and lack of actual gameplay. If a remake addresses those two points game would be 10/10. The other two can be remastered however I would prefer Lightning’s Returns to be Re translated to be more faithful to the Japanese version.

@@ironrex6979 As much as I love LR I'll concede that's definitely true holy shit. I've certainly numbed myself to its flaws over the years, like the first two games it has a cool world and lore (like the concept of exploring a rapidly shrinking and dying world with immortal people and dead remnants of eras long past is really novel to me for example) I feel like that game was probably executed the worst of the three in terms of main cast and their arcs. I just don't think it took the time to delve deep into the characters or work hard enough to make their arcs satisfying enough. We all know how they did Sazh dirty, they pushed Snow in the right direction but it didn't even really touch the hatred he felt in the opening CG cutscene, I thought a more antagonistic Snow than what we got would have been sick. I think Noel was pushed in a pretty good direction too and has some really cool lines but I feel like he would have done more to stop the Children of Etro if he didn't like them. Vanille wasn't horrible but I think the position they placed her in meant that she was kind of out of the way and didn't get enough time to do much, I like that you can take time to visit her whenever you feel like when you do enough quests in Luxerion. Fang was handled decently imo and it was nice to have her as a temp party member. Lightning and Hope get the most time in the spotlight but I feel like their roles as God's servants necessitate that their characters feel a little off. Even though Bhunivelze is cruel and it makes sense that Lightning and Hope would be stripped of the things that makes them human, I can see why that doesn't click with other people. Overall while good ideas and concepts were introduced, it still felt a little lacking in retrospect.

XIII was my first FF game I've ever played. (Besides Dissidia). What got me interested was the game was notorious for being a terrible game, but had 2 sequels. So I wanted to check it out. But currently on XIII-2 and slowly progressing. For XIII, I really enjoyed the gameplay once I reached chapter 9. For the most part my gripes were that the game felt like it was playing itself for the majority of the chapters, for the sake of telling a story. But the dialog and cutscenes did not deliver that story well enough. The gameplay was fun once I sat down and gave a real attempt to understand the mechanics, (I did a lot of reading in the datalogs to get the full spectrum. Even then had to look some stuff up). Movement felt clunky and frustrated me at times. And the characters felt so unnatural except Sazh. But Most all of those things were fixed in XIII-2 so far, (at least in my opinion). Other than that, the story was really amazing! Music was awesome! And the character design was really done well! I would love a remaster or a remake! HD Fang sounds like a great idea!

    -Rework XIII's long ass hallways
-Let the shops be less depressing
-XIII-2s Merciful combat flexibility and Lightning Returns Self Input Combat system, where there's technically paradigms still. So no 3 classes like LR, but let each XIII class, feel responsive and high energy with entering in commands to fight rather than loading an ATB.
(Imagine FF7R where each party member is controllable- and have movement and attacks/spells, but let their moveset be Paradigm specific. And ofc they can have the shitty tip toe movement of LR)

    1. Make any character able to be the party leader early on
2.Make the option to cut the paradigm shift shorter like 13-2
    3. Stop capping the levels just let people do what they want
    4. Later on in the game don't punish the player if wanting to level up different roles
    5. Make new balances to the character's making vanile have more HP than lighting is so odd tbh
    6. Allow characters to change party mbers during battle
    7. Make a option to play every character during battle

    2) Able to Control the other party members: I really hate the 'one goes down and the rest fall' mechanic, if my party leader falls let me play as the other 5 and if all 5 go down than it's a game over just look at Pokemon for example.
    3) Add a New+: FF15, Lightning Returns; and Kingdom Hearts all have a New Plus bwere you can replay the game with your character maxed out; while it will be OP I like to replay it to make certain boss battles easier and to grab items I might have missed
    4) Easy way to make Gil: This game is the hardest to get money, sometimes I have to resort to selling items that way I can buy some remedy or weapon
    5) remaster XIII-2 and Lightning Returns with all dlcs included: apart from XIII, its sequels are also the few FF games to have never gotten a remaster, LR is probably my favorite in the Trilogy due to its beautiful game environments, I find it funny how LR was never released on the PS4 and XBOX One considering back in 2014 those where the newest consoles

some of your suggested improvements with changing party members are actually in ffxiii-2! there were also other tweaks as well, like shortening that damn paradigm shift animation, which I'd love to see in ffxiii. I'm definitely on board to play a remaster trilogy myself on ps4/ps5

I think ff 13-2 needs a remastered version. Ff 13 has a nice difficulty lvl compared to ff 13-2. But like you mentioned, it would be great if you could change you main character during battle like in 13-2.
I would also be very cool if square would sell all ff 13 together. I don't think many people would buy 13-2 but if all games come in one package, people will most likely play 13-2

Ff13 trilogy remake with a "tbc" mode (ffx style combat option) an open crystarium from the beginning of the game, and the ability to jump between save points you've already been to to open things up more. They could also add more side content. Bring back triple triad, open up that amusement park area to get us a motorcycle race mini game, vr battles (like in 7 remake) and a blitz ball tournament like in ten. Oh and of course ,catching raising and riding chocobo is must. If square does this then the ff13 remake won't fell nearly as linear.
Edit: and oh God oh God is they let us actually play through the flying cutscenes in something that resembles the near atomata flying missions that would be fucking insane

If they remaster it, they need to apply the improvements they did for FFXIII-2 where possible. XIII-2 improved things in a way that made people who disliked the first at least say that Square "listened". There are battle updates in XIII-2 that make a world of difference and shouldn't be hard to apply to XIII at all. Also, make the crystarium more open from the start. If this affects difficulty, just adjust to make the game harder or easier. Additionally, where possible, they could add some of the missions that you get on Pulse onto Cocoon, giving you at least something else to do and improve pacing. Finally, for those missing the allure of "minigames", they could perhaps repurpose one of the XIII-2 minigames into Cocoon for simple rewards. Or maybe rehash the one Hope minigame for rewards.
Basically, I want them to improve the game within the confines of the code they have for both XIII and XIII-2. They shouldn't have to design any new models, music, or mechanics. The groundwork is there, just repurpose and modify things where possible and it's basically a different experience, save for the story.
As for remastering the other 2 games, I don't think they need much more than graphical updates. XIII was the best-looking of the XIII trilogy. As the trilogy went on, they shifted their focus from visual polish to gameplay expansion, and it shows.

I’ve played13, 13-2, and Lightning Returns to the point where I should stop - I’ve done everything and then some.
My real issue with 13 is the story and how it unfolds. It’s extremely hard to follow and becomes more so as the series continues. I stuck with it but only really started having fun when I had the whole party together.
The author of the video does a good job at pointing out what most people, including myself, find that’s holding the game back. To have people interested in any version of this game it would need a complete overhaul.
I can completely understand what people dislike and most of the criticisms are on point. Superbutterbun does a great video on FF13. It pretty much reflects my opinion on the series.

It's just a case of perspective, FF13 and 15 are great games IF you are new to the series! The old-school fans were never really going to like it, Final Fantasy has a very stubborn fanbase and I feel they would play nothing but FF6-FF10 for the rest of their lives if they had a choice. At least FF13 took some risks and tried something new. Some experiments are bound to fail.

FF13 is the only midnight release for a video game I ever attended.
I love its world and characters. It's very bright and colorful (sorry, colourful). It's reminiscent of the, "you're on vacation" (sorry, "holiday") feel I got from FFX. Its a gorgeous world that deserves a remaster.
It doesn't take itself overly seriously like 16 seems to be doing. There's a man with a bird living in his hair! It's still silly, and I like things that make me smile.
    I sincerely like 13 more than I like 15, 12, 9, or 8.

If you're gonna further talk about remaking FF13, I think you should bring up all the pre-products of it before its final release. Like how it was originally made for the PS2, where it uses a minimap during combat, how Vanille was the original protagonist, how the playable demo didn't have the Paradigm Shift mechanic, etc.
Maybe we can put together the real vision of FF13 that the devs were trying to get if they weren't rushing to complete it.

I don't know if graphical enhancements are really necessary as the game still looks as good or better as many AA type titles (Atelier, Trails of Cold Steel, Tales, ect). Probably making the tutorial part not last 20 hours would be a big help and some of the other gameplay suggestions you mentioned also sound good. If you are not overhauling the graphics it would probably be easy enough to do the whole trilogy and sell it for like $30. The 2nd 2 games could probably be included with no gameplay changes.

    For those wanting a remake:
Final Fantasy VII REMAKE is basically a completely game to FF VII. It added in new quests, a jukebox, upgrading weapons, being able to move around in battle and it is a completely different game.
A remaster (such as Spyro, Crash or FF X) upgrades the graphics and adds a small bit of new content. (The Zodiac Age does this by adding Trial Mode, Jobs and new liscense boards) It's the same game. A XIII remaster is all that's needed, not a remake.

Bought FFXiii-2 when it came out and dabbled with it (My 1st FF btw) and kind of enjoyed it so picked up FFXiii disc cheap for XBox360, wait 5 years and decided to give both another go, again only dipping in to them. Cue the XBox One X versions and I'm in, Absolutely loved FFXiii, the whole linear thing helped as a FF noob - you know where to go, you just have to master the combat and paradigms. Having finished FFXiii and FFXiii-2 in the last 12 months I can honestly say "FFXiii is my favourite FF game I've played". I actually like the FFXiii characters I felt they had an arc (Well Snow and Hope did, Sahz was cool throughout). If I had to suggest a change to FFXiii it would be to bring paradigms in earlier (oh, and the team lead dying should NOT be Game over), with FFXiii-2 I'm not sure what to change to make it better Noel & Serah made a likeable team and I really enjoyed visiting the same locations in different times). Now playing FFX (with X-2 already downloaded and not quite hooked but I'm only 10h in (and thanks to FF13 versions I realise 10h is nothing compared to the joy/sorrow that is to come). Enjoyed your vid btw and subscribed.

Even I have almost the entire trilogy for pc (I have to buy LR yet) I would love to see a remaster of the trilogy as a whole (in fact I treat this trilogy as one entire game, is weird, I know xD). I would make some changes in 13-1, like no game over when leader dies, change leader during battles (like 13-2) or can revisit old chapters with secret zones that includes secret items too.
Well, 2 of your videos in a row that I like (the other was the other about 13 being worth now) so I think a sub is deserved.

13-2 was just as addicting as 10-2. I personally like 13 the least from the trilogy. 13-3 definitely needs some heavy revision, it NEEDS to get rid of the time pressure!

Funny you mention battle mechanics you hated, because in XIII-2 they made it so you could not only change character mid battle but also it's not an instant game over if the controlled one dies, and you can run from most encounters on the field pretty easily too, still can't run mid battle but one can argue the "Retry" option is pretty much a run away.

I absolutely love Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy. I never understood people hating ff13. I was like 9 or 10 when I first played the Trilogy, and I loved them. I still love them now, and have played the Trilogy so many times.
