I well remember when John broke down in tears on Fax when telling everyone about Shep's death. You knew then that Shep wasn't a 'prop' but his companion. I know some people made fun about John being upset, but as someone who has had dogs since 1986, I can tell you, it hurts like hell when they go.

I remember that episode of Fax mate. Shep had died just a day or two before the recording if I remember correctly. It was a heart breaker seeing lovely old Noakesy cry.

Yes it hurts so much to lose these wonderful companions. I remember Petra and Shep so well. It’s lovely that these past moments are now immortalized.

Not true I’m afraid, he wasn’t his companion or owner only for the tv, look it up. I was very disappointed to read the truth.

If women can be strong and independent, then why shouldn't grown men cry?

I think Shep would be a good name for the dog. 😁

What a delight to watch. 💞 I was seven and a half years old and had just started juniors (year 3 by today's reckoning), in London. Such lovely times to grow up in. Thank you for posting this on here. 😍

I was borne in 71, and remember a Britain like this: a place where people were kind, and you wanted to be a part of it. By 1994 I'd emigrated, had enough, and haven't really been back.

Good decision. It has become so much worse since then. It is hardly recognisable as England today

I left England for Venezuela the 5th of October of 1971, Blue Peter was my favourite TV show with Val, Peter and John. Around 1976 I wrote a letter addressed: "Blue Peter, London, England" no street name or ZIP cod, I knew it was going to reach its destination because the Royal Mail is excellent and would deliver the letter. A few weeks later I received a letter from Blue Peter's Editor Biddy Baxter, one Blue Peter pin, two Blue Peter badges and a picture postcard of Val, Peter, John and Lesly a new member that I did not know of, unfortunately all of these items were all lost. No one in Venezuela knew about this program and I suppose Blue Peter Production were amazed to receive a letter from a Spanish speaking country in America where Blue Peter was not shown. The receiving this correspondence has been one of the greatest moments of my life.

This was well done! I just randomly came across it! Glad I did! The Brontes family story and even the little puppy bed was a GREAT idea (for some stray kittens we have out here that won't let anyone near them)! And those cute hedgehogs! I love that people are uploading these old television gems! Thank you!
