The Zippo style lighter is a tried & tested design, that has been around for many years. Its not perfect but it works. Here is a little "hack" to improve yours!!
That's a great idea Neil, I'm going to go off now & make one for my Zippo as that's what I have anyway, cheers for that my friend, stay safe yourself 👍
I’m gona give that a try I Cary a zippo on my belt pouch as well as in my fire kit in the winter have had my gas lighter (bic)not work if it gets to cold but a zippo never fails
@@greencraft4783 Hopefully by now, you'll have already learned about the 5!!! different "non-fluid inserts" now available! I'd avoid the "arc lighter insert" just because I don't like the idea of carrying ANOTHER lithium battery with the potential to pop at any time. There are two "torches" available, a single and a double, and two "yellow flame" inserts, one "regular" with a proper flint and wheel design, and the other is a pipe-style insert, also with flint and wheel. If you haven't yet, well worth looking into. I've got one of each, other than the arc lighter, and they all seem to work quite well...just pick the one best suited to your needs...and get the others for backups. After all...NOBODY has just ONE Zippo. d;o)
Have carried a zippo for 30 yrs. Rule one if you carry a zippo, ALWAYS have a back up or extra fuel. My latest source for back up is zippo keychain fuel canister. Only problem I have with that temperature fluctuations can cause it to vaporlock. To the point I've had to use channel locks to get it open. Good hack though, may have to fill one of my many and see how long it will hold fuel.
@@greencraft4783 well sorry to say, I am still a smoker I average 10 days between fills. I usually try to remember to fill every weekend for the following work week.
Welp, I've tried that one, but no matter how large and tight the inner tube piece, the fuel still evaporates, albeit slightly slower. A shame, but maybe it'll work for others.
I've been using a ranger band around the seam of my Zippo for years, but I like your idea much better. Thanks

Neat idea Neil!

Great tip. Might dig out the old Zippo. I did think about the gas inset for mine but never did get one.
A useful tip 👍. Have been using it on my Zippo for years now.
Well, that's one I'll definitely be adopting! Thanks amigo.
Nice one Neil simple and affective 😊
Genius idea! Thanks for sharing.
Neil, thanks for sharing
It was that very reason that I gave up on zippos but if I can get a bit of inner tube I'll give that a go.
nothing like a zippo leaking fuel into your pants pocket to light up your day
Aye, it blistered my leg one day....I think that was when I came up with this idea in fact.

Great idea
This assembly fits nicely inside an empty tic tac container.

I am getting 13 days on average from one fill. And that is using it two/three time per day.

We were using old bike inner tube on our zippos back in the early 80's bud, old ideas revisited you should of called this vid 👍
You were an old sweat even back in the eighties 😉
Check fuel before leaving the house.

I managed to get a different insert for mine, so that I use zippo lighter gas
