I'd argue you get the value of 2-3 guys with Soto. Fan graphs WAR at 8.1 that's about the equivalent of Betts and Freeman combined last year. Their combined AAV is about $57 million a year, which seems to be a bit more than Soto is expected to make, and he's 6 years younger than Mookie and 9 years younger than Freddie. This is the type of guy actually worth the 350+ million dollar contract because the age at 26, outside of Ohtani, there's no once else besides Soto I would've wanted for that money that actually hit FA. Much better option than Judge, Machado, or Trea Turner that were all 30 years old when they got 300M+. This was the opportunity they were waiting for not signing those guys.

It would also be much harder for a team to recoup their investment being Soto’s marketability is no where closer to Ohtani. If a team that is not the Dodgers decides to pay that kind of money, I think it will cripple their franchise in 5 to 10 years.

People complain about KD joining warriors, not because of how strong that lineup is. But the fact that by signing KD, you practically broke that Thunder team apart. That Thunder team had been a solid playoff team that you have to beat at any given year for a championship. This signing made Warrior enter the Finals every year without breaking a sweat. I had no problem with Soto in dodgers, but having him not in Mets, Yankees or Padres would be the thing that pissed everyone off.

He could sign a 10 year deal and still be playing at an elite level at the end of that period, that's basically impossible, it's why Yamamoto got so much money despite no MLB experience. @@michaelturley8222 Well not to get into the fact that people from his corner of the world have lied incessantly about their age. That aside, I'll say a couple of things here. Being 4 years younger than Ohtani still doesn't make him Ohtani. Ohtani will go down as the greatest player of all time. He makes the Dodgers money in more ways than ticket sales. Soto will NEVER be anywhere close to the marketability of Ohtani. Plus his contract is deferred and is worth more like 450 mil in real world dollars. But beyond that, even if you think 500 mil is reasonable the word on street is that he wants MUCH more than that and for it to NOT be deferred. So that's where I find it off putting.

As a life long Dodger fan joto Soto doesn't seem to mesh in with the cohesion of the current Dodger team hopefully he stay in the East Coast please retain both Hernandezs and " WE NEED PITCHING " both starting and relievers. Blessed to have a baseball team as great as the Dodgers .... Los tres Amigos in heaven are smiling on our 2024 World series champions Lasorda, Vinny, and El TORO......

I'd rather play against Soto that with him. Dodgers have his number.

Roki probably wants more for the international signing. He will probably wait until December 15th at least so he can get a bigger signing bonus, even if he is dead set on being a Dodger.

Id rather have Teo. Soto talked so much crap about the Dodgers back since he was in San Diego

if you get Soto and his fielding is not adequate 5 years from now what are you going to do if Shohei isn't pitching 5 years from now?

I want both of the Hernandez back as first priority before any new signing. Getting Roki would be next and hey if we can land Soto i definitely ain't complaining.😂

No Soto, unless he's willing to learn how to pitch. Regarding Sasaki, I have a feeling he'll go to the Padres.

While there are many opinions that SASAKI's acquisition by the Dodgers creates unfair competitive advantages, the Dodgers' scouting department has spent decades thoroughly analyzing Japan, investing time and effort traveling back and forth to LA, and finally their efforts have borne fruit with the acquisitions of Ohtani and Yamamoto. The excuses from other teams who haven't put in any effort until now aren't worth listening to.

WBC pressure for Japanese players is the top of Everest compared to the WS pressures. It's everything to them for their country. WS is lot less than WBC for Japanese players without a doubt.

My third take is why is Roberts snubbed for manager of the year? MLB reporters are bius to east coast teams and haters to anyone in a Dodger uniform when it comes to awards or allstar nominations. Roberts had the most injuries to this roster than any other team in MLB, they for sure we're not favorite vs the Padres, the Mets or the Yankees because of the injures to the starting pitching and they did not get much love to the bullpen. This is the best managerial job in MLB this year, his best work since he was hired in 2016.
